Minnesota’s Corey Hetherman new defensive coordinator at Miami

Miami = More pay
Miami = More NIL
Miami = less job security - however the defense was so bad this year he probably at least 2 years to turn it around.
Miami = better chance of CFP and hense head coaching opportunities.

If I was Hetherman I would have stayed in MN one more year and seen what 2025 produced. I think We have he potential to be a borderline CFP team or at least part of the conversation for most of the year. Good chance he would have had head coaching opportunities or better DC jobs at that time. However, you have to believe that was possible and maybe he didn't or perhaps this is an opportunity he felt he could not pass up.

Oh, for F sake. If he doesn’t have enough juice after 8 years to have what he needs in his assistants pool then he’s dumber than I thought. Is he underpaid? If not, which I think is the answer, then why are the assistants—mainly the coordinators?
Listen, I usually like your posts but think you are missing the mark on this. Fleck can beg and plead all he wants, he can even stomp his feet and hold his breath till he's blue in the face, but if the Regents say this is all you get (because of course it's the U of M and sports are a low priority to our regents), what's he to do? Guess he could quit but all he can do us ask, beg, plead, sell, conjole and hope.

I believe that part of a typical HC’s negotiation when he talks contract with the school is the size of his assistants pool. Perhaps I’m mistaken. If not, then as PJ has continued to outperform or at least perform as it relates to his contract, the assistant pool has apparently lagged behind. For sure, it’s Coyle’s job to make sure we are competitive in our salary pool. I just don’t think we can or should shrug our shoulders and blame the regents.

Well it’s no secret that the U hasn’t made winning a top priority in sports for many years (see our BB program for an example). Who is ultimately to blame? I’m not sure, but I find it unlikely that PJ and Cole are part of the group that doesn’t want to invest in sports. Just a theory

Lots of people were blaming Fleck for why Rossi left, clearly it’s the budget for why coordinators aren’t sticking around here. Only exception may have been with KC wanting to be closer to his home back east, but he probably got a raise also.
I don’t see it that way. Only a 200k difference. I feel like we were in the ballpark with our offer. 200k is a pretty small difference when you’re getting 1 million. Would have thought he would stick around for that with such a short D1 track record.

1) Heatherman - D Coordinator
2) Nick Monroe - D Co-Coordinator
3) Collins - D Passing Game Coordinator
With all these people with "D" (Defense) and "Coordinator" in their Job Titles, just how much was Heatherman responsible for the Gophers success with preventing points allowed?

Even moreso given that the majority of the personnel was here (or committed) before he landed in Dinkytown.

So the Stadium and Athletes Village aren't investments?

Why would he turn that down?

Fleck keeps replacing and finding guys. Retention is the problem. Would be nice to find someone that really wants to be here and stay.
*** I'M NOT ADVOCATING TO BRING BACK JERRY KILL ***

One thing I miss about the Kill era is he had coordinators who were with him forever.

Only problem was some of them weren’t that great.

Thank you, money isn’t everything
Typically said by folks with money. Just poking at ya.

The new Miami DC is a young guy and if he’s looking to make as much money as possible in a profession where you are year to year I totally get it. And besides if he doesn’t want to be here F him. Fleck was looking for a DC when he found him.

We aren’t in the same team picture as Miami when it comes to commitment to revenue producing athletics and it ain’t because we don’t have the money. Until that changes, it’s what it is. I choose to donate to Dinkytown..

How is Miami a great situation? It has been pretty much a middling program over the past 20 years in a weak conference. They play off campus.
Assuming he's making North of $2 million dollars. Even if he gets gassed in a year or two he's getting a bag and will end up in a job similar to Minnesota DC role in prestige if Miami doesn't work out.
