If those two knuckleheads aren’t responsible for making sure we are paying at or above the going wage for coaches, then who is? Coyle is the king of the dipshits.Would be interested to know who specifically is the holdup
I would guess Coyle and Fleck want more money even though gopherchase blames them
They don’t leave for lateral moves, they leave to make more money.I am sorry. I like the program but to have so many coaches leave for lateral moves is a problem! I can see moving for upgrades not a good look for more money if you are building a good program.
Pretty sure the HC isn’t responsible for the coaching budget. If those two knuckleheads aren’t responsible for making sure we are paying at or above the going wage for coaches, then who is? Coyle is the king of the dipshits.
wut doesn't make sense? His guarantee pay is only $400,000 for 2025
Oh, for F sake. If he doesn’t have enough juice after 8 years to have what he needs in his assistants pool then he’s dumber than I thought. Is he underpaid? If not, which I think is the answer, then why are the assistants—mainly the coordinators?Pretty sure the HC isn’t responsible for the coaching budget.
Couldn't Mary Tyler Moore bring Ted Knight to the table?when Fleck says MN is a developmental program, I guess it means coaches, too.
If Winston DeL had a little more experience, I could have seen him as a candidate. but as others are speculating, will probably be Collins. he gets a lot of the credit for putting people like Nubin in the NFL and developing the young safeties including Perich, Brown and Gousby.
BTW, if you saw the thread on coaching salaries, MN raised the assistant coaching pool by $1-million for 2025. Hetherman was scheduled to make $1.2-million with additional bonuses for making a bowl game, etc. That's not bad money. It's just not the kind of money a school like Miami can pay out with their boosters, NIL support, etc.
in a perfect world, MN needs its own version of Phil Knight - an uber-rich dude who is willing to give millions of $$ to the Gophers. but, my friends, it ain't a perfect world. not even close.
Potentially. But there is risk every time we change a coordinator that we get another Robb Smith.Rossi was good, Hetherman was also good, but it’s not like they were coaching a bunch of scrubs. The next guy up should be in a good position to succeed as well with the current roster.
I love the program too, but Miami is not a lateral move.
They were also probably a touchdown away from making the CFP.You are correct Miami is ACC. They are not power 2 football. We are playing in the big leagues only two conferences will matter in the future. It is time we start spending the bucks to be in the big league.
Your perspective is much better than mine Pantha, I’m kinda pissed about this one. No such thing as loyalty anymoreWhatever. There are hot up and coming assistant coaches all over the place including probably on the Gopher staff already.
For example, the NIU defensive coordinator has been very successful and is from Sioux Falls. There are guys like that all over the place.
On a different note, who's to say Miami actually has all that much extra budget? They were desperate and probably willing to spend more. The Miami defense has been dogshit.
They were also probably a touchdown away from making the CFP.
Assistants have been job hopping since the beginning of time, not sure why this specific move is indicative of college football becoming a shitshow? His wife loved Minneapolis and wanted to raise the kids here, but I guess not that much, what a shitshow college football has become
You don’t think PJ has raised the bar in terms of the U being willing to invest in the program? You should have seen what it was like before him.Oh, for F sake. If he doesn’t have enough juice after 8 years to have what he needs in his assistants pool then he’s dumber than I thought. Is he underpaid? If not, which I think is the answer, then why are the assistants—mainly the coordinators?
It’s ok to be pissed, at the same time, probably not a huge deal. It’s the program, not one assistant coach. NDSU has won Championships with 3 different coaches or is it 4 over the last 12 years or so. They may have lost more than 2 games once. I think they will be fine.Your perspective is much better than mine Pantha, I’m kinda pissed about this one. No such thing as loyalty anymore

Miami doesn’t really have that large or rabid of a fan base. I’m not sure I’d call it a “pressure cooker”.It’s ok to be pissed, at the same time, probably not a huge deal. Other than money, (which is huge) not sure this will pay off with the pressure cooker down there.
If PJ isn’t underpaid why would his assistants be? I don’t dislike PJ just asking a question? You don’t think PJ has raised the bar in terms of the U being willing to invest in the program? You should have seen what it was like before him.
I feel bad for you, PJ is so far in your head it’s hard for you to have a rational discussion about anything involving his program.
The school chooses what to pay him, the school chooses what his budget is for his assistants. He can ask for more for himself and or his assistants, but it isn’t his call.If PJ isn’t underpaid why would his assistants be? I don’t dislike PJ just asking a question?
How is Miami a great situation? It has been pretty much a middling program over the past 20 years in a weak conference. They play off campus.Corey did a really nice job this year. I also think he walked into a pretty good situation and parlayed into a great situation. We have a pretty good established group of position coaches, we also had a lot of returning talent and some really good players back from injuries. I think Danny Collins makes a lot of sense I've always viewed him as the Greg Harbaugh of the defense, think him and Greg both followed fleck from western Michigan and they both became position coaches moving up from quality control at the same time too. Seems like this was always going to be the move. Now that heatherman 1.2 mill is off the books plus an additional 600k coming in. Guessing we can bump up Winston and Monroe, probably add coordinator if something to their titles, hire another position coach and have more money to throw into analyst and QC roles as well.
Miami is probably a great place to raise kids! His wife loved Minneapolis and wanted to raise the kids here, but I guess not that much, what a shitshow college football has become
You do dislike PJ. It’s ok to dislike him, you are well within your rights to.If PJ isn’t underpaid why would his assistants be? I don’t dislike PJ just asking a question?
Absolutely not true.the article was skewed data people only read the headlines not the fine details, his only guaranty and base salary is $400,000 per year. WITH POTENTIAL to make 1.2 million would he ever see 1.2m if he stayed to MN? Probably not. His most likely salary for the 2025 season would have been $657,500
