Keelon Brookins De-commits from Minnesota and heads to rival Badgers

This is a really bad sign, in recent years the Gophers have not lost instate kids to Iowa and Wisconsin. Kill continued that tradition with a nice job instate in year one, but that is not the case in year two.

Of course winning cures everything, but it's obviously much easier to win if you get the best recruits you can. You don't get to step 3 by skipping step 2.

We need to start winning immediately and that starts with the non-conference games. The NEW uniforms, NEW coaching staff and the NEW stadium just aren't doing it for the high end recruits.

Oh it's not the same day. If you'll notice, he's had the login since March of 2012, but miraculously waited until today to make his first post.

It's great fun kicking you guys when you're down, but I had to take a couple months off because I pulled muscles in both legs from the previous decade of kicking you when you're down. It's a better workout than P90-X.

Mods, can we ban the hamburger, aka Badger 2010.

Nope, not Badger 2010. check the IP.

Why ban me? You too think-skinned? Have I said anything that isn't probable? You guys would do the same thing if the roles were reversed, not that that's going to happen anytime soon.

But what is step 2 and what is step 3? Winning helps recruiting and recruiting helps winning. If we win some more games this year, recruiting should become easier.

Next to Indiana the Gopher recruiting class as it stands is the worst in the B1G. Northwestern has 15 commits including a 4 star QB and 8- 3 star players. Let's hope Kill can get some top out of state defensive players because the cupboard is bare in state.

Most of us have more going on in our lives than to post on another team's message board. I don't know why people like you upset people here; I find you totally pathetic and lame.

Way to root for a good team. You've accomplished nothing yourself.

I understand that it goes both ways, but people seem to be dismissing the recruiting losses by way of arguing that wins will fix it. It's much harder to win when you are consistently beaten for recruits by the teams you need to beat.

Hope he enjoys being torched by Tufts and McDonald and getting a lesser quality education in Madison than in Minneapolis. His loss, though i'm fairly confident he'll re-commit back to Minny, this kid can't be quite this stupid. I can see Onwaulu *sp, keeping his commitment with Notre Dame, at least they're a storied program, but Rucker and Brookings sticking with Iowa and.. Wisconsin, just can't see it happening.

Whatever. If in 3 years our lack of CB depth prevents us from something special, then I'll be disappointed. Until then, he's now just a badger like any other who I will wish nothing but worst.

Please don't start feeding this troll too...

Anywho, if the kid really wants to spend the next 4-5 years of his like on the east side of the border, he can. I won't wish ill upon him, but I certainly won't be rooting for him.

according to the twitterverse, he wanted the opportunity to move away from home and experience something different. Makes all of his RECENT comments very hard to swallow as he was playing us all, including the coaches.

I became very suspicious when he decided to go to camp at Bucky, but the optimist homer in me believed what Brookins was telling the public. If he really was 100% he wouldn't dare go into our #1 rivals' house at all. Sigh, life goes on. Hopefully he pulls a McDonald cuz he will be a stud.

Jerry may be a great coach, he may be different, he may be that father figure, but what he really needs is a blockbuster recruiter on his staff. He needs that go to guy. This is Jerry's weakness. He needs that dynamic recruiter that brings in the big fish. Illinios must have one this year.

The funny thing is that I was at an AAU tournament in Hopkins Monday and Brookins was working the door at the event. I asked him about the Badgers having offered him recently and he told me that he was 100% committed to the Gophers.

Chris Monter

Probably did not want to deal with pressure which would come from waffling on decision.

Yup, I completely agree. It's one thing recruiting at the MAC level where you know you're not getting the studs but this is the B1G 10!! You need a different type of athlete to physically be able to compete week in and week out at this level and that starts with local talent. We can squeak out a win here and there with better strategy, luck and coaching but that doesn't cut it every week. Kill has to employ a top-notch recruiter in order to be competitive over the long haul.

I am behind Kill 100%, but is anyone else fearful of the Peter Principle potentially taking effect?

Isn't there suppose to be some "unwritten" rule about this type of behavior in the B1G?

Maybe there is, but because it is "unwritten", it isn't worth the paper it's not written on.

Good luck in Buckyland kid - we wish you the best - break a leg!

OK, now this comment I don't quite follow. I realize you're angry and all, and clearly a bit bitter. But, in what world is UW-Madison a lesser quality education than UM-TC? Anytime I look at college rankings Wisconsin is ahead of Minnesota. Maybe splitting hairs on those lists, but certainly doesn't back up that asinine claim of yours.

And why wouldn't Rucker and Brookings stick with Iowa and Wisconsin? If you were a young football player and had the choice of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin the only reason you'd choose Minnesota over those other 2 is because they're your home school or you prefer the coaching staff. Iowa and Wisconsin are superior to Minnesota as football program by virtually ever measure.

The best thing to say about Wisky is nothing.

Please don't turn this into a which is a better school argument. We are all on tilt today but the only way it could be worse is to have another dumb argument about school rankings take over the forum for the next few days. It hurts to be played, but FISH (F*ck it, Sh*t Happens) let's move on and get to work getting back to Pasadena. No time for anyone who doesn't believe.

Screw Brookins he's finished to me. What really troubles me the most tonight is that of all the games on "Minnesota Day" I get to watch the 1996 Minnesota vs Illinois game. C'mon BTN!!

See ya Keelon - don't bother coming back 'home' to look for a job if you graduate. At least don't bother looking at my company. Stay there please.

Every measure except national championships, big ten championships, head to head wins, etc. Also, you'd pick MN if you don't want to go to school in the middle of nowhere, but in a great city that you'd have to move to anyway after college to get a job.
