Keelon Brookins De-commits from Minnesota and heads to rival Badgers

I shouldn't take the bait, because I don't want this thread to get too far off-topic, but let's say that actually IS how kids decide where to go to school (it's not)...

The City of Milwaukee has more Fortune 500 companies per capita than the City of Minneapolis, and Madison is continuously growing.

So, yes, maybe he does think he can make a living over here. Regardless, it's not like he'd be confined within the state's borders for the rest of eternity. As of a few years ago, I know Madison was having a Hell of a time trying to get UW grads to stay in state after graduation.

With that said, I like the Twin Cities 100x more. I'm still holding out hope that Brookins feels the same way at some point over the next year.

Not quite. According to Wikipedia the 2010 census showed Milwaukee with a population of 594,833 and Minneapolis with 382,578. Milwaukee has five Fortune 500 companies (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2011/states/WI.html) and Minneapolis has ten (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2011/states/MN.html). Overall, Wisconsin has nine Fortune 500 companies and Minnesota has 20.

Thanks harrys ghost ....

....for taking the Sunday shift to make sure that somebody is doing the fact checking here. Dpodoll must be taking a well deserved Sunday off. Much appreciated!

Apologies, we must be looking at two different sets of data. At any rate, my goal wasn't to say that you'd have a better chance making a living in Wisconsin than Minnesota, just that Wisconsin is a little more than a community of deer stands where the only employer is Wal-Mart.

Having the choice to work in WI or Chicago or Minny or even NYC, DC, Boston and LA etc etc is not a bad thing.

HA, Sid, is that you?? I wonder how anyone who goes to college outside of a top 10 - top 20 media/business center gets a job after school? Don't they realize that you can only work in the city that you went to college in? I swear it seems like some on this board have never left the great state of Minnesota. Check out some other places! You'd be surprised, there are some pretty cool spots around the country.

As for recruiting committed players - it's probably been posted on this board about 200 times that BB doesn't care about recruiting committed players, and never got mad at any other coach for recruiting his committed players. His policy is that he will recruit a player until the player tells him to stop recruiting them.

Did you really need to post back-to-back about this (you and your alter ego).

In general, I agree, I think it's a silly argument for Gopher football. I think it's a tiny advantage in that there are more local U grads in the Twin Cities than Madison grads. Generally though, it's a dumb argument.

As far as recruiting players, it's been posted on this board BY YOU about 200 times but it seems like a subject up for debate. I'm not nearly as interested in the Badgers as you are with the Gophers. Then again, I don't think Mark David Chapman was as interested in John Lennon as you are with the Gophers. But to my knowledge, there are a couple different sides to the story. You argue that it's nonsense that BB was talking about recruiting committed players and other people argue that he's a hypocrit. The debate isn't settled and it probably never will be. You can continue posting on here that the subject is settled because it's been posted on here "200 times" but most of those postings have been yours.

According to U.S. DOC Bureau of Economic Analysis Statistic
Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington GDP is nearly 2.3 times bigger than Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis. 199,596 vs. 84,574. Statistically MSP, Denver& Seattle are in their own league.
According to the data from the DOC,
MSP metro area economy is even bigger than that of Detroit-Warren-Livonia.

How much does Vadgers slow start affect the Gophers effort to recruit him? I hope by the end of the season we are continuing to improve and the Vadgers are playing like last weekend.

Do you not realize that this is no thread about Keelon Brookins? I know it's a little misleading, since in the title has his name, "Keelon Brookins". I miss those days, where the thread is actually about the title..........

well considering he is committed to the badgers and the post discussed the possibility that the slow start might make him reconsider. it does pertain to him.

He was just making a reference to how off topic the thread had gotten prior to the most recent post about Brookins.

my bad. just annoying when people gripe about the different factors said recruits may consider when making decisions that really don't affect the poster.

Sorry, I guess it was a bad joke hah. I was making light of the direction of the thread.

Would somebody please give me the link to the device that tells me what direction a thread is going so that I can follow. Anybody!

Snicker...

From Ryan Burns:

I have just confirmed that Tartan CB and #Wisconsin commit Keelon Brookins has torn his other ACL and is out for the season.

Feel bad for the kid even if he spited us.

Yeah, that's a bummer for him. Your senior year should be something that you enjoy. I wonder if Bielema tries to pressure him into a greyshirt.

Call me an a**#@le , but I am finding it difficult to feel bad for him. I certainly would never wish this upon anyone, but I am not going to lose any sleep over an injured Minnesota player shunning the Gophers to go play for a rival.

I agreed with you for about 15 seconds until I reminded myself that he's a human being. Feel bad for the kid.

Your priorities are *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ed up. It's one thing to wish him to fail at Wisconsin due to poor play, but tearing your ACL can be an extremely painful and debilitating injury. He's just a kid, show some basic human compassion.

I want Iowa and Wisconsin to lose every game they play, but I don't wish injury or bad karma on their players.

You need to get over it. A kid can attend and play football for whatever school he so chooses no matter where he comes from. This attitude for "shunning" your school is not only childish but kind of frightening.

Scools, please realize that there are a lot of fans that hope for ill will on our opponent, and do not know how to go out and beat the opponent when both are full strength. Video games rule, ya know.

Did you miss the part where I said that I would never wish this upon anyone? Look. There are people in the world in much worse conditions than this kid. Should we cry for all of them? I feel bad for them but this is the cruel reality. Just because this kid is in the public eye doesn't make him more important. I went to high school with a kid who could have very well been a D1 football player. An injury ended that dream. Would you be interested in shedding any tears for him. It happens.

No, you clearly don't. You can't both say that you don't care, and that you do, in the same post. Making comments about "shedding tears" is a strawman. You can look at someone who has physically damaged himself considerably, and is likely in a lot of pain, and feel sympathy without being reduced to tears. Likewise, you can still be upset that he chose the Badgers, and still feel bad that he tore his ACL.

Going out of your way to make a post about how you don't care shows a level of maliciousness beyond simply indifference. Which, you clearly know, since you started your post with the expectation that most people would think you're an asshole.

Wrong. I feel bad for them as I would never wish an injury upon someone. Go ahead and use reading comprehension to find that in my past two posts. All I said was that it happens......this kid is no more important than any other.

per Doogie:

Tartan High School cornerback Keelon Brookins is out for the year with a knee injury. "I had surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus in my right knee," Brookins said via email. A Wisconsin commitment, Brookins still hears weekly from the Gophers. He'll be at Saturday's game at Camp Randall Stadium. Brookins originally was a Gophers commitment.
