You’re right, I wasn’t the first to use the term but I did support it. Fair point I will stand corrected there. What I should have said in my original reply is people don’t have vitriol they just understandably don’t like Jerry.

Is PJ a good guy? I’m not sure. I don’t know him personally. I have no doubt he has some skeletons in his closet. I do however think he has a lot more emotional maturity than Jerry and I am not aware of him publicly handling himself in as poor of a manner as Jerry has. That’s the best I can say to that question.

I think this is the truth and it's exceedingly bizarre.

I don’t consider Kill “the enemy”. I just think he showed his true character. And that would be true whether I liked PJ or not.

He’s doing well at NMSU. Good for him, I hope that can help ease his bitterness towards the U and PJ.

I guess that's my point. Why get into the game of so and so is a good guy when it comes to your football coach? Kill was incredibly immature on his comments after Fleck was hired. No doubt. But there are strange things with Fleck too.

Two of the guys who seem like the nicest guys are Ben Johnson and Richard Pitino. I don't want either of them to be my basketball coach.

He did retire. People can come back from retirements. They do it all the time.

He did not retire. He quit. He didn’t take a leave.
He quit. He never came back.
He quit. This is literally what the word quit means

I only brought it up in response to someone who commented that they can’t believe some fans don’t like Jerry. I frankly would have no reason to be discussing anything about Jerry Kill if a thread wasn’t started about him, other than that it’s neat that his team beat an SEC program. It’s not like I started a thread to bring up my thoughts on Jerry.

I’ll admit to being a little defensive about PJ because I think he has gotten a lot of over the top criticism over the years. He deserves plenty of criticism for how this season has gone, I just think it’s annoying and pathetic that so many fans come out of the woodwork waiting for a chance to pounce on him as soon as we have a down year. You’re one of the more level headed guys around here so that’s not directed at you, but it’s been a little irritating from my vantage point.
 

FTR as someone who’s not a big Jerry Kill fan at this point, you people saying he quit make no sense. It’s very clear (and he has said so himself) that Jerry misses being a P5 head coach. If he had his way he would much much rather be coaching here than in New Mexico. He would not have stepped down if he felt he didn’t have to.

I have, and when that happens, they almost always know why. My comments about this come from what JK told everyone, he knew what he needed to do to keep his epilepsy under control and when it wasn't, he knew why.

JK quit because he refused to do what he needed to do to stay at this job. "It's on him."
 

Regardless of which coaches personality you like more, I just don’t see how anyone can argue that Kill is a better coach when none of the on field results for each of their careers suggests that. The only argument is about how Kill had more challenges so his lesser results should actually be viewed as a better coaching performance than what Fleck has done.
 





Jerry Kill stuff aside, I absolutely love seeing an SEC team get beat down at home by one of the late-season “cupcake” games they schedule each year.

He didn't quit, he retired. I honestly do not believe you think he is a quitter.

I don't believe there is another person on the planet who retired at a doctor's recommendation that you'd consider a quitter for that retirement. Especially if that was the best and most lucrative job they have ever or will ever have.

If someone is overweight and they retire because of heart issues, no one would consider them a quitter. Well you might, if that person was a coach you didn't like.
 

This thread was fun for a while, but not so much anymore. It's obvious that some people have rewritten history to support their own emotional needs. Though it's easy to poke holes in their false narratives, it's ultimately unproductive.

Summary:

1. I still like Jerry
2. He did a great job rebuilding a broken program in his 4.5 seasons here
3. I always felt bad that he had to give up the Gopher job.
4. I'm glad he got a less demanding position, and he's excelling in it.
5. Even though I don't like Fleck on a personal level, I acknowledge that he's done a pretty good job here over time.
6. I'm not in favor of firing Fleck and I wouldn't hire Kill back.
7. I love watching the Fleck jockstrap-sniffers squirm, and guys, you've been squirming up a funny storm today.
 

Kill was a good coach but he also inflicted 4 years of Matt Limegover on us so, no, I don't think Minnesota should bring him back.
 


Highlights aren't a scouting report, as they only show a guy at his best. But at his best, he looks like a quick, shifty runner who makes some really nice throws.

Yet JK is still a D1 head coach.

He quit as the head coach here.
 

I like both guys as individuals. Kill is doing well in the conference that he is in where he belongs. Not a week after week hard hitting conference. Fleck needs to get cranking to show he belongs in the Big 10. Fleck has had some tough luck with injuries with his team this year and had to adjust. I'm rooting for Fleck as I believe he is a good guy. But he needs to start producing if he wants me to stay in his camp.
