JD Spielman. RTB?

See hes following Seth Green, Cashman and Winfield Jr., Kamal Martin.
He follows other players from other teams as well, so I don't know if that can be used as any indication.

We don’t really need to be analyzing this beyond simple practicality: he won’t be in the NFL this coming season, and so does he want to sit around this fall or does he want to play???

Minnesota, he gets a waiver. And likely starts in the slot and returns. Plus family here and program on the rise.

No brainer.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but it looks like JD may have recently followed Kodi Burns, who is the Co-Offensive Coordinator and WR coach at Auburn . . .
Auburn can't beat the Gophers.

I also follow Auburn assistant coaches.

He would be a nice get and bonus, but we don't really need him in reality. I don't mind option B being DD who has come up with PJ, or a guy like Brown-Stephens who has been gettin' some high praise. Maybe even the freshman Jackson.

I've always thought Minnesota simply because of the logistics involved (multiple waivers needed), but if he finds his way somewhere else, so be it. There's plenty of talent in the WR corps as it is.

With that said, we've now gone right off the deep-end (checking who's following whom on Twitter is about as low a threshold of "information" as it gets) in this thread.

At this point, the sooner he picks the better simply for the sake of sanity on here.

The gap between DD and JDS is like the Grand Canyon.

We need him in the sense that ... we always need better players.

Haha that's so true looking back at the convo. Myself included.

Who's the 4th/5th at this point? We got Bate, CAB, and DD at 1-2-3. Also what are the expectations for Douglas? So much talk about CAB blowing up, not a lot of love for DD.

Let's eschew the normal TE talk that we have here for a minute

I think Spann-Ford finds a way into the mix as a pass catcher. I could be wrong because that might be the most loaded position group on the whole team - Kieft, Witham, Paulson AND Spann-Ford. So snaps might be limited for him, but I just see Spann-Ford making 30 catches for a few hundred yards.

There may be a reason there isn’t a lot of love for DD? He is fine as a #3. My point was the gap between him and JDS is HUGE.

Do we know what JD is eating for lunch today? any jimmy johns or chipotle employees on the board?!?!

Seriously, what is with Gopherhole overhyping our current WR and underhyping Spielman so much?

I don't want to bash DD, he seems like a great kid, but he put up 157 yards in a full season last year. JDS has done that much in one game. DD will always hold a place in our hearts for his punt return at Camp Randall, and his helping come back against GSU last year, but what has he done that makes people think he is in the same universe as JDS?

Yeah it's a little shocking.

Like guies ... it wasn't that long ago we had nobody to throw to... we didn't get infinite WRs suddenly...

I may have missed it but i have yet to see someone say that they wouldn't take JD if he wanted to come here. There is the general sentiment (I share it as well) that if he doesn't come here our WR corps will be just fine, but obviously if he wants to be here it is a no brainer to bring him on board as he would be an instant upgrade at the position over pretty much anyone not named Bateman.

In DD's defense though, I really don't think we have any clue what kind of receiver he can be. When you are the #4 option on a team with two legit stars in Bateman and Johnson you aren't going to get the opportunity to shine. He almost certainly is not in the same league as someone like JDS, but it also isn't totally fair to him to make a lot of assumptions about his ability based on his limited production to this point.

If someone were to apply for a waiver today. Roughly how long would it be before you heard back that your application for a waiver was accepted?

Missing variable: How much money did you give your laywer?

Good point. It would be nice to see Spann-Ford emerge as the 3rd/4th option for us. I'd just totally forgotten the position after how heavy we went on wideouts last year.

I don't diagree I'm just preparing myself for a reality where JDS is not a gopher. I'd love to have him come home and slide right in. It would be huge for us.
It wouldn't shock me if JDS decided he wants to go to a place where he's the clear cut #1 guy and he's gonna be heavily targeted. I still think he would get heavy usage here, but maybe it's more important that he is THE guy. Bateman is THE guy here no matter if JDS comes or not. Probably more of a 1A and 1B though if he were to come here.

Not really seeing that comparison being made. One comment about that JD would be a great addition but poster is fine with DD as #3. Most comparisons are to Bateman and CAB...

This is exactly where I'm at. Well put.

That and TEs are rarely targeted in this offense. It became a running OMG moment with my fan group when they would get a throw. That said they did provide a couple big highlights and a lowlight.
