Its early--- Tubby vs Pitino

The reason Pitino will be a better coach with more success will be the coaches ability to devolop players into legitimate talent. This is critical to the long term viability of the program.
In my view, Tubby did not really develop any recruit into a batter player. I look at Rodney, Otto, Sampson, and even the players who tranferred, Cobbs, White, and Colt. It will be great to see players actually improve in season and from year to year. You can win with 3 star recruits who match your system if they develop correctly.

I am excited for Pitino, but I will also not compare coach's teams when one hasn't played on the road in the big ten yet! Pitino is young and seems willing to adjust to the game, like playing a zone, when short handed. He seems to relate to the players well. Pitino may not have the depth this year to really play the way he wants. Also Trevor the big ten's leading rebounder will be greatly missed.

You have a short memory. Check with your doctor in case you have a memory loss. Do you not remember what Blake said about changing his shooting style from the 1st year to the next. Also, how many of you complained that Tubby was playing Otto too much. Do you give all the creadit to Richard for Otto's developement? The least you can do is to be fair.

Go Gophers

Please humor me and elaborate on the bolded point....

And do you not find it odd over 6 years you have 2 examples and one was a reach....?

How many people deny that Rodney and Ralph didn't meet their potential under Tubby? How many people deny the abnormal number of defections under Tubby...some right during the middle of a season? How many people see Oto playing more relaxed this season? How many people have read the comments by this years players talking about how much more they are enjoying playing basketball than they did last season? How many people have noticed an entire team dedication to being in great physical shape?

Sure, this season could simply be a honeymoon season and players will lose interest in working to get better. We'll have to wait for awhile to see if Coach Pitino can maintain the positive energy and work ethic that we've seen from these kids. For me, it's refreshing to see and hear kids being excited to play basketball again. There were far too many kids playing scared under Tubby and I find it thrilling that these kids are attacking the game (i.e. 19-0 run to end the Richmond game). Tubby wasn't/isn't a terrible person, but it was clearly time for a new coach at Minnesota.

This is my last comment referring to Tubby. Time to move on. Anyways, one thing is for sure, players who have left Tubby's system, have gone on to become better players. They get more freedom to play to their strengths, as opposed to being forced to play within the system. We all know the names of some of the players that have moved on... Cobbs, Joseph, Iverson, (White doesn't count). And so far this year, Oto has had a night and day improvement.

Tubby was a great coach, no doubt... but he's an old school coach. And his system stresses more on pure talent, than player development. And he may have made the Gophers a bubble team every year for the next 10 years, but it's obvious we wanted more. So far, I'm pretty happy with Pitino.

Very fair post.

Darn it you google users...stop using facts you clearly got from google...;)

Year One: 70-164 (42.7 %)
Year Two: 45-132 (34.1%)

Yeah but:

Year One: 688 minutes played
Year Two: 703 minutes

Errrrr.........maybe it's time to crawl back into The-Real-Troll-Hole...............

I don't care about a Smith vs Pitino thing.

However, I find this style Pitino is allowing very difficult to watch. It is a very selfish style. Offensively, they are all out to see who can get a shot off first. There is very little team in what they are doing. They ran around a lot on defense but play awful on the half court. Don't rebound. Getting outplayed by Chaminade.

You just flat out make things up on a regular basis. You truly don't care about facts.

Why do you care so much about my BS. Its not any worse than some of the posts here that we have been reading about a coach with 1 year of coaching experience. Are you upset becasue Richard has been nothing but a bust so far? Like I have said before, coaching change was not the solution here. We'll see it more and more everyday. Richard was out-coached by 2 veteran coaches during the past few days. Can you imagine what he will do against the other veretran coaches in B1G? Stop saying that he will bring in players that fit his system. What system are we talking about, hurry shoot the 3????

This post just made me facepalm so hard that I left a bruise. I'm just going to shake my head at you and ignore it.

Honest question. Did you graduate high school? If so, how long did it take you? If you don't answer, I will assume you didn't.

I did. English is not my 1st language. If it makes you and some others feel better, I will stay away from this board until the end of this season. Bye for now.

Go Gophers and beat UW at least
