Those exact words were spoken about Richard and Tyus Jones’ class. What class is it reasonable to judge him on? Sincere question. ‘23?

I'm not saying we have a chance...i see the point not wasting time.

However all I've heard about this hire is his ability to connect with these in state guys. You want to silence critics...convince Chet to stay home.
 

I think it was a Deloitte study that suggested it’s 32x harder for someone to tell you no in person, vs over the phone

curious, are coaches allowed to make in home visits at this time? guessing coach would prefer to have the “why haven’t you signed that LOI” discussion face to face

Agree except transfer portal introduces different dynamic. He should be able to leverage that. I understand not prep though....

I will freely admit to being far more familiar with the football side of things. That said, it would seem like he should be able to make a pretty strong push at the 2022 kids but 2023 would probably be the fairest time to really look at how he is connecting with in-state kids.

His connections to the area should make it easier for him to hit the ground running locally. But so much of recruiting is relationships that are built over multiple years in a lot of cases so it is going to take some time.

Like everyone I am really curious to see what he is able to do with the portal and setting up the roster for next season.

He shouldn't be judged on next year's results on the court, as he will still be building his program and filling a lot of holes. But the transfer portal does lend some hope to the "quick fix".

The point of the thread is that the reports are wrong... and I said take it or leave it. I’m not claiming to be an official source, just a guy who knows a dad who knows a dad.

Either way it’s not a big deal. It’s for friendly conversation.

Honestly I don’t even know how to delete a thread on this forum.

I don't see why a reporter saying something the coach said is any more valid than a recuit's dad saying what the recruit said.

For sure. Thats part of the issue. He isn’t a big enough name to land major recruits immediately (no one was going to be that person for the gophers) so he needs to start working now on 22, 23 and beyond. If he isn’t making in roads by the 23 class I think a change is needed. If he is, let it play out. I only feel this way because they have publicly said he was hired to help in state recruiting.

Home state loyalty has nothing to do with the coach. Dave Holmgren had home state loyalty. Treyton had home state loyalty. Chets' probably a one and done anyway.

Could be some misunderstanding on what "reached out" might mean.

Maybe Ben tried to reach out through a contact and that "close contact" of Chet said "don't bother". So Ben "reached out" and told a reporter they are "reaching out" but a phone conversation didn't take place.

If Chet still wants to consider the U, I think there are people in town who can help make the introduction happen.
I don't expect many self respecting coaches needing to go through a ton of work to chase someone they have zero chance of getting. I think Ben is probably going to do the good and decent thing of trying to touch base, but also understanding it's not going to be to get Chet, but to get the next player who might know Chet.

Pitino got trashed on his recruiting ability and probably mostly deservedly so. Let's give Ben more than 36 hours before we get to upset at his lack of effort.
He might need to sleep tonight.

Excellent points here. This is a very good take on the situation. I fully agree with you. I intend to give Ben time and I really want him to do well and recruit our state well. I believe he will do much better than the previous regime.

I realize this is probably a premature post. I just felt like an insider for a moment and got carried away and wanted to share with my fellow die hards.
 

I wonder why Chet wasn't offered by Xavier. During the press conference Ben said Xavier is a logo school. Should be worthy of offering the top guy in the state he has connections in
