Gophers get a #1 seed in the NIT - host High Point Tuesday night

If you have a Roku (and probably other devices) you can stream ESPN3 directly from it. When the internet connection is sufficient, there really is no noticable difference between the TV channel and the stream. BTN2Go is sadly not on there as of yet.

Yep, this is pretty much what I said. I'll also add that ESPNU is in HD and comes in very nicely, which is another plus if your cable provider doesn't offer ESPNU in HD (like Charter in Madison).

I have been cable free since February 1st and really haven't missed it too much. I use Roku for anything on the ESPN family of networks and use BTN2GO (which sucks) or FirstRowSports for anything else that is cable sports related. A cheap HD antenna gets me all of the local networks (including CBS college basketball).

I thought about getting Apple TV. May have to look into Roku and see about canceling cable in all honesty. All I ever really watch are sports.

If you have a cable plan that supports it. As said Directv doesn't. ESPN has like 34 channels and can't even bother to broadcast the NIT anymore. Used to be the only reason to watch ESPN was the fringe sports (and tournaments) they showed. Sad day. Maybe Fox Sports One will get the broadcast rights and we can actually see it again.

Why on earth would you want to see the NIT? Real postseason basketball is played from Wednesday-Sunday this week. Truth is, if people cared about the NIT, ESPN would broadcast it.

They are broadcasting the NIT, just not the Gophers-High Point.

Nice try. It's funny how so many whiners on this thread have just made up their own facts.

How do you get ESPN and BTN2GO without a cable/satellite subscription? I'm honestly curious. I've wanted to get rid of DirecTV for a long time and the only thing holding me back is access to live sports.

I have been cable-free for about a year now, and I use a combination of a couple things. First, I have friends and family that still have cable subscriptions. I have offered to pitch in some money each month to subsidize their subscription, but nobody has ever taken it. They just give us their login info and we can log into ESPN3 and BTN2GO with it.

And for anything that isn't available on those, I'll try one of the various streaming sites like FirstRowSports.

Obviously both aren't wholly legal, but it works for the most part and we save a boatload of money.

I believe that if you get internet from the cable company (if your cable company supports ESPN3) you can get ESPN3, even if you don't subscribe to cable TV. I have DSL through the phone company, so I don't get ESPN3.

Right, but you'll only get ESPN3 if the game isn't on ESPN, which is pretty rare. Mostly just a few non conference games.

If a game is on ESPN/ESPN2, you can stream it on ESPN3 IF you have a cable subscription.

Cause no one responded with actual numbers: According to my count from Wikipedia, there are 37 bowl games. 37 bowls * 2 teams/bowl = 74 teams. 128 FBS teams => 74/128 which is strictly greater than 1/2. So over half the teams in FBS make bowls. 351 teams in D1 for basketball, 68/351 is strictly less than 1/5. So basically this is a ridiculous comparison. I tried to keep them math simple for you, by the way.

Anyway, I'm excited for this game. Hopefully it's not during one of my classes. Hopefully our young guys get some more playing time as we go throughout this tournament, and the seniors get to go out on a positive note.

I think the overall percentage of D1 programs to make the tourney or a bowl game is the wrong way to look at things. All conferences are not created equal, and a fairer comparison would be to see what percentage of B1G teams make the tourney vs. a bowl game.

I can stream ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, etc. with my Roku and a Charter internet subscription. I don't have cable through them.

For BTN2GO I borrow a friend's log in. I actually end up using FirstRowSports more often than not though since BTN2GO is so buggy. I'm hoping at some point BTN will have a Roku channel since there are ACC and SEC channels currently.

Breaking News: The game tonight is also on AggieVision.

For those of us who are not able to stream ESPN3 directly, is there another link to stream through a different site? I'm not super familiar with these sites. Thanks!

I'm basically in the same boat, but for me saving $60/month isn't worth the hassle. Plus, if you're a Twins fan, MLB TV through your Roku, etc. is no work-around. If you live in the Twins footprint, it'll be blacked-out.

I'd imagine you'd be able to use a VPN to get around that but yeah it's a hassle if you aren't too tech savvy.

I'll resume being a Twins fan as soon as they resume caring about winning. I haven't watched a single pitch on TV in the last 2 seasons.
