Gophers at New Mexico State - TV Broadcast Situation

Fox's ownership of 51% of BTN has no part of this. The same is true of the Fox RSN's. They are all separate entities with their own rights deals. Being under the overarching umbrella of Fox doesn't mean this gets any less complicated, as annoying as that may be.

BTN isn't blocking it, they just aren't willing to pay additional rights fees to carry it on TV. You could argue it's the same result I suppose, but it's not the same thing. It's a money decision, not some grand scheme to drive people to BTN2Go.

Agree. Whether it was Fox Sports1, FSN, BTN, KMSP Fox 9 or WFTC 29, just because Fox owns a network broadcasting the game doesn't mean they can just throw it on one of the above without a payout. My guess is that FSN/BTN did not want to do their own broadcast and felt that paying to rebroadcasting NMSU's coverage didn't make financial sense.

Just like FSN usually chose not to broadcast Gopher hockey games at Michigan Tech or Alaska-Anchorage. The network even had the rights but it just didn't make financial sense to either send their own crew or to rebroadcast MI Tech/AA's broadcast. I believe one time they broadcast from the studio here and used the video feed from AA, but it was very unpopular and so it was financially better to just skip the game.

I'm very bummed they couldn't figure something out, but I don't see how it could have made financial sense since most casual fans aren't about to stay home Saturday night to watch the Gophers play a team which they couldn't even name the mascot.

You're really mixing apples and oranges.

Does anyone know if I will be watch the game if I have Time Warner Cable???

According to Time Warner's website, it's channel 454. But my guess is you need to be subscribed to the sports package to get it.

Direct TV now, at 1:30 PM Thursday, has Minnesota v. New Mexico State scheduled for 7 P.M. on 695 -1 RSN. To Be Announced on 682

Looks like you need the Sports Pack for Directv channel 682. Altitude network alternate channel.

Has anyone ever actually used BTN2Go with Airplay and Apple TV? I'm thinking of purchasing an Apple TV, but from the (outdated) info I've seen searching the web, people were complaining that BTN2Go was not able to be broadcast to Apple TV using Airplay.

I just tested this last night in case I only had BTN2Go and I was able to stream it to my TV using airplay NO PROBLEM. It was pretty decent quality too. I have the sports package on DTV so that will be option #1 for me but if there are any problems there I will go to BTN2Go over Apple TV as my second option and I confirmed it did work.

I'd love confirmation of this too. Someone upthread mentioned using an iPad with an HDMI-out adapter, running that to your TV. Is that plug and play or complex to do? I have no idea.

Its now 2:07 682 Alta shows Minnesota @ New Mexico State at 7 PM. 695-1 RSN Minnesota @ New Mexico State 7 PM.

Now about the rights to the game, why would either of these two outlets see a value, and neither the Big 10 nor Fox North do not? Altitude is out of Denver and the I think the FOX affiliate is in Arizona. It amazes me that someone in Denver would be interested. And there would be no one in the Big 10 nor in the 13th largest TV market.

Altitude and FS Arizona aren't only showing this specific NMSU game. They show other AggieVision telecasts as well. They must have some sort of deal with AggieVision to show a certain amount of shows and events since both channels are in the Southwest area and they probably have some interest. FS North obviously isn't going to have any deals with AggieVision, this is the first and probably the only time we'll ever care about them. I'm not exactly sure of the reasoning but that's my guess.

How did you get that to work? I downloaded BTN2go to my iPad, but I did not see the icon for streaming it to my AppleTV anywhere (the rectangle with a triangle thru the bottom). From looking at some discussion forums it didn't seem possible either. I haven't tried running BTN2go off of my iPhone. The one thing I did do was run the website on my iMac. The resolution looks OK on the small screen (about 5"x7" on the iMac, or on the iPad). But when I went to fullscreen on the iMac, it got awful mosaic-ish. I'd be concerned that streaming from my iPad to my 70" projection screen it'll look like something my kid made out of legos.

I'm just going to watch it on my iPad ....by Tuesday this will all be forgotten anyway.

Does anyone use Laptops anymore? Took an HDMI feed from my laptop to my 58" TV and watched part of the UNLV game last night. Video wasn't full on HD quality but thought it looked pretty darn good considering the source.

We have Dish so based on other comments looks like it might be an option for us assuming they don't black it out locally but if that does fail I feel confident streaming it off of BTN2Go based on the test I ran last night.

I did it exactly the way you described... Iphone 5 and AppleTV. No cords. Pulled up BTN2Go, loaded programming, and the rectangle with little triangle symbol was there. It streamed to my 55" TV no problem. The only thing that makes me wonder after reading your post is I just pulled up any 'ole programming (happened to load the BTN on demand Gopher vs UNLV game) and it worked no problem. To be 100% sure, I will repeat the process tonight with live BTN programming. I don't believe that should be an issue though.

Another idea is to make sure your operating system software on both your Apple TV and ipad are up to date. Just a thought.

This. There is no Fox Sport New Mexico channel. This is the FSN channel that serves New Mexico, and hense broadcasts their games.

Ok here is what I see The Big 10 Network has on their 5 Channels at 7PM
BTN Syracuse @ Northwestern
BTN1 Southern Mississippi @ Nebraska
BTN2 Sun @ Fever (NBA Women's Basketball)
BTN3 Navy @ Indiana
BTN4 TBA

We are told watch it on BTN2GO. So, it is available for broadcast, on a cell phone. They chose that route in order to bring NBA Women's Basketball to their Broadcast network. And left BTN4 open. This over what a rights fee? How do they get the feed to BTN2GO? Gentlemen this is not about rights fees, access, or broadcast capability.

If you want to blast an email to BTN, go to the Contact link at the bottom of the main page (btn.com). Make sure you choose "Other" for Category and Subject fields or it will funnel you to some generic scheduling links. Give your name and some other info and you get 250 characters to ask them why they are not broadcasting the game over one of their BTN channels.

The BTN used to have four overflow channels, now they have two. A couple of seasons ago the BTN was allowed to air games during what used to be an exclusive ABC/ESPN window. So they can schedule games throughout the day as opposed to five games at 11 a.m. Hence, the BTN channel and the two overflows are already showing games when Minnesota plays Saturday.

So now we're getting down to "it's on, but not a channel I normally tune to"? Let's breathe a little.

I've now found it on two channels on DISH, took me about 3 minutes. After just being told here that it was on 443, I found it immediately and set the recording. It says Minnesota at New Mexico State. It is HD.

The second was the replay.

Anyone else getting the direct tv logo and music playing on altitude channel on direct tv? Does that mean I have to buy the channel or am I good to go?

BTN as described above, BTN doesn't have all those overflow channels anymore. They may be listed as that, but they only have 2. The WNBA game is not on the BTN, it is on an alternate channel that is being used by one of the FSN networks. Its directv's listing problem, not BTN's programming problem.

The game is being streamed on the internet. You can watch on your phone, but you can just as easily watch on your computer or a smart tv. Its completely about rights fees, access, and broadcast capability, but if you can't seem to understand that, then I can't help you. There is no vast anti-Gopher conspiracy between FSN, BTN and New Mexico State.
