Gophers aggressively pursuing former 5 star DB from OsU

You certainty are scratching the surface of scum to come up with comments.
So far, the results say I'm correct. Fleck inherited a 9 win team and currently has a winning percentage <.600 in his time here. Facts shouldn't be hard to accept?

We win the West this season, or win nine games with this much experience and I'll modify my stance. The team will go whichever direction Morgan goes.

I just don't understand so much blind allegiance to PJF?

And we just don't understand why you don't have anything better to do with your time. I guarantee you couldn't name 10 starters if we pulled you away from the internet or your phone. You're not a fan. You're a sad, sad person who needs a new hobby.

The program is in the best place it's been since many of us were born. 2020 was a wash to anyone with real knowledge of the team. 2019 was the best season in a century. 2018 ended in stronger fashion than nearly every single Glen Mason season. We can all see that PJ is landing players with MUCH MUCH better competing offers than any coach before him. It's funny you reference PJ's winning percentage when most of our previous coaches were playing schedules that included 4 cupcakes every year.

Your "fake" counterpoints have more holes than the Titanic did on that fateful night in 1912.

Figures lie & Liars figure... when you are replacing as much as a quarter of your roster every year, what you were the previous year is somewhat meaningless... What Fleck inherited was a team that didn’t have enough linemen to hold a scrimmage, far from a nine win team.

To translate your post..."If you don't worship PJ, you're not a REAL fan".

Reminds me of a phrase I heard from a buddy when it was closing time at the bars many years ago ..."If you can't find a girl to meet your standards, you lower your standards ".
This is really the truth in every facet of your life and I think maybe your buddy's wisdom was lost on you a bit. Having unrealistic expectations doesn't do anyone any good. Finishing in the top 10 and winning 11 games is not simply "good" for the U of MN football. It's great. Is that same season "great" at Ohio State? Obviously not.

If the Gophers win less than 8 games, this year is a disappointment. If they win 8+, it's a success. I argued with a ton of Fleck fans at the time re: Claeys season and I'll argue with Fleck detractors now, we are still at the stage in our development as a program where winning 8+ games is a success. I think in the near future, that number will move to 9 wins.

The reason why people are devoted to Fleck is that they thing for the first time in their fandom that this progression is not only possible but likely.

The most obvious thing PJ has done since he arrived is create some mention for Gophers football on national media.
That's good since no one knew Gophers football existed since the Holtz days.
I guess we can disagree with how he has done it with the camera shot stunts and RTB. Now it's time for him to prove if 2019 was the norm or the exception. We totally agree on that.
The West is there for the taking.
The most obvious thing he did was win 11 games; finish in the top 10; and win a New Years Bowl game. That's the most obvious.

If he didn't have success, he'd just be a quirky guy they talked about when he was hired. If you're quirky with results - - - attention.

As far as 2019 being the norm. That is a higher standard than the Badgers (the level of success you think we should be attaining).
> It's better than all but 1 season of Paul Chryst's.
> Gary Anderson never had as good of a season.
> Bielema only won more games once in 7 years (won 11 two more times).

Our 2019 isn't even the NORM for the Badgers. It was a really good season.

The blind allegiance is to the gophers not Fleck. What’s the point of following a team if you just want to shit on them until they prove they are good? Doesn’t sound very fun.

All great points. Some people (who choose to have selective memories when it's convenient to assist in not liking our coach's personality) love to forget that we beat a very game Top 12 Auburn team (who started plenty of future NFL guys) to close out that season. Beating Wisconsin (handily) in 2018 and then blue-chip programs like PSU and Auburn in 2019 gives Fleck a better 14-game stretch than any other coach in our lifetimes. Glen had some big wins, but sadly they were almost always followed up by a bad loss to a team we should never have let stay in the game. 2000 Ohio State upset followed by giving up 51 to Indiana the next week is probably the most epic example of that tenure. Jerry beat Nebraska in Lincoln but then we handed over a lead in Madison the next week (followed by getting worn out by Mizzou in the bowl game).

PJ did something special by getting the boys to bounce back and play with some serious heart down in Tampa after what could have been a season-deflating loss to Bucky at the end of the regular season. Nearly all previous modern era Gopher teams went in the tank after one of those big-game losses.

Finally...a reply that makes sense.

Anything less than 8-4 will definitely be a disappointment.

Thanks for a reasonable view.

I'll bet you any amount of money more people on this board would take 7-6 with a win over Wisconsin and in a bowl game than 8-5 with a loss to Wisconsin every single year.

Traditionally Gopher fans have always taken it out on the ex-Coach and current coach. In that order.

Nearly everybody has been pretty good at not taking it out on the players. Except for the QBs.

I look forward to the day where we panic by picking up 5* guys unexpectedly ;)
It’s like the recruiting equivalent of getting drunk and buying crap on Amazon. Hopefully we wind up with some 5 stars on our doorstep in a couple days even if we don’t remember what happened.

Just drink the kool-aid. You will feel much better. Noah's Ark wasn't built in one day. Believe in world peace.

While I will be disappointed with less than 8 wins, that won't make me say that 2019 was a fluke or PJ is a bust or that we will never be a contender. I take more of a long-term view of things. One or two plays are often the difference between a couple wins over the course of any given season - see Maryland and Wisconsin games last year.

Of course if every year forever we are talking about improvement rather than seeing it, that's different. But if we go 7-5 this year I don't think that automatically destroys all progress made.

Are we really upset about PJ getting possibly a 5* DB?!
If this were a HS senior that decided to reopen his recruiting, we'd be jumping for joy that we have a shot at this guy, but since it is a transfer, people are worrying that it is indicative of a worrisome situation.

I am not saying that the back end of the defense is so good that it can't be improved, need some help, etc., I just think people really need to look at this as a unique situation.

The vast majority of us.....no

Those couple that are always looking for a negative way to spin everything.....yep.

Not sure why some always have to look for the doom and gloom in every scenario. Fleck has had great luck with the transfers he has brought in and if he thinks this kid can help us I am all for him going after him and trying to get him on the roster.

You mean that team that couldn't even field 5 offensive lineman for the spring game was a "9 win" team? You're a joke. We'd be dwelling at the bottom of the B1G if it wasn't for Fleck, as WI and Iowa would certainly be light years ahead of us, and Northwestern has been strong recently as well.

And no, you're not gonna modify your stance even if we win 9 this year. Well, you'll modify it like this: "Big deal Fleck got 9 wins this year, he had to do it with transfers on the Dline, LB, WR, and OL. The previous regime won 9 games with their own recruits". There, I saved you the trouble.

And we just don't understand why you don't have anything better to do with your time. I guarantee you couldn't name 10 starters if we pulled you away from the internet or your phone. You're not a fan. You're a sad, sad person who needs a new hobby.

Technically didn't the Titanic only have one hole?

I don't read anything into "in the conversation" or "actively pursuing". Results are what matters. Does the kid end up on campus, and do you end the season with wins.

I figured someone would point that out. But I think the point got across.
Now, an international team of scientists and engineers that repeatedly dove to the Titanic's remains last August is unveiling a surprise answer likely to end the long debate.

Peering through the mud with sound waves, the team found the damage to be astonishingly small -- a series of six thin openings across the Titanic's starboard hull. The total area of the damage appears to be about 12 to 13 square feet, or less than the area of two sidewalk squares.

What doomed the ship was the unlucky placement of the six wounds across six watertight holds, the experts say. A different pattern of damage might have avoided the disaster that started late on April 14, 1912, a quiet Sunday evening notable for its clear sky, chilly air and calm sea.

Man I was really hoping that was going to devolve into a copypasta...

I think this is the real crux of it. Inheriting a 9 win team does not mean the next season is that same 9 win team.
