Gophers aggressively pursuing former 5 star DB from OsU

Perhaps this is not Fleck in crisis mode, but with great confidence. When you expect your offense to be up by 30 at halftime you know your cornerbacks will get tired and will need quality backups. No need to blow redshirts for upcoming national championship runs when you can fill you second squad with former 5 stars.

Yup, this is how I feel. Seeing that they offered the Tulsa guy was eye-opening to me. He's got a couple nice offers, but going after a guy like that AFTER assessing your situation during spring doesn't strike me as a good sign.

Durr is an above-average B1G player, but beyond that the starters are unremarkable. Howden has played a lot of football, but not particularly well. Nubin was put in a tough position last year with the shortened offseason, but again, he really struggled -- so much that he was overtaken by a true Frosh who'd also had a shortened offseason. People are losing their minds about Terrell Smith making two decent plays in the spring game, but we're talking about a guy who was about 6th on the depth chart last year behind former WR Philip Howard. Lot riding on rapid improvement from Nubin, Howden, and Glaze, a return to form for Smith, or sudden impact from a true Frosh. Color me concerned.
He looked good for the first few games of his freshman year, but then his performance fell off markedly. He has big-time speed, but speed doesn't help if he's running in the wrong direction. But the tools are there. Just need consistency and to be assignment sure.

I think there is a lot in between crisis mode and honestly identifying a position group on your team that would benefit by a 5star transfer.

From 10,000 feet, Tyreke on paper looks like the Avante Dickinson “replacement.” No idea if we can get him—he’s got a lot of interest, it seems—but he could slide nicely into the spot where we had Dickinson penciled in. And we got Walley after Dickinson left, if I recall. Maybe a double benefit ...

Good lord people need to let go of Dickerson. Tyreke would have nothing to do with Dickerson not coming here. Fleck sees the potential to go add an impact DB so he is going for it. Doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Not sure why some are trying to make it so much bigger. That's not true, I know exactly why some are trying to make it something bigger, since they are only happy when they have something to complain about. :)

I wasn’t complaining. Just looking at possible upside.

Walley committed in August. Dickinson didn’t decommit until January.

I look forward to the day where we panic by picking up 5* guys unexpectedly ;)

No worries.

There is plenty of time for GH drama. There is about eighteen weeks before the tOSU game.

The Spring/Summer still young and plenty of time for opportunity or mischief in Gopher Recruiting.

Always appreciate the time that Fleck puts into recruiting to make the Gophers better.

I just can't wait to shut all these yaks up this fall. Another great season and I will physically force them to tongue wash PJ's toes - after one of his 4th quarter sprints.
Another great season? I hope so. I'd settle for a good season. That would make two in Fleck's five years here. Or is it his fourth season. What did we ever decide about "Year Zero"?

MN beat WIS in PJ's 2nd year so that automatically qualifies as a good year.

You're definitely losing your edge in your pretend game. Be a little cagier, a little more insidious, a little less obvious.

That's o.k., keep working on your craft. You'll get it someday!

So...you can't answer my question?

Reminds me of a phrase I heard from a buddy when it was closing time at the bars many years ago ..."If you can't find a girl to meet your standards, you lower your standards ".

The year zero stuff was dumb 4 years ago, bringing it up now is just sad.
My point was the ridiculousness of saying "another great season" when we've only had one since PJ arrived.

Well considering we didn't beat Wisconsin for 14 years, I'd say POUNDING THEM and totally embarrassing them at Camp Randall and then showing Georgia Tech who was boss made 2018 a pretty great season. I know you still have nightmares about what we did to your little Badgers that day.

Call it whatever you want, your intentions are crystal clear. I get it, for some the high point of their day is to troll other teams message boards trying to piss people off. To each their own I guess.

Fleck has done just fine in his time here and the program is on a trajectory it hasn't been in....well....a long ass time. Everyone across the country gets a mulligan for 2020. 2021 will be the Gophers chance to prove 2019 was real and not just a flash in the pan.

I have to appreciate a coach who seemed like he never sleeps. He is 100% all-in Gopher Football.

It isn't easy. Mostly everyone in the Big Ten West is improving also. If it was easy, then Coach Fitz at NW will be winning titles more often.

IMHO, once the Gophers are able to reach their first pinnacle, then will zig-zag (hopefully always an upward moving trend) per PJ's famous chart). After winning a championship, the Gophers just about have to reload.

If they win the Big Ten West at a minimum, I can envision multiple players declaring for the NFL Draft after this coming season. It is goodness for the future of the program.

If the Gophers Defense improve substantially, that could the difference of two or three extra wins.

It was painful to see the Gophers losing three close games last season. A good part was Special Teams kicking. It should not have to come to that if the Defense was a tad better.

So yes, I think PJ should go after 5 Star defensive secondary players. IMHO, AWJr was a 5 Star player.

Huh? Badger fan? LOL.

Wanting success similar to Wisconsin doesn't make one a Badger backer.

The most obvious thing PJ has done since he arrived is create some mention for Gophers football on national media.
That's good since no one knew Gophers football existed since the Holtz days.
I guess we can disagree with how he has done it with the camera shot stunts and RTB. Now it's time for him to prove if 2019 was the norm or the exception. We totally agree on that.
The West is there for the taking.

I think that it would be fair to say that MN is playing withalmost all Fleck recruits this year so for that reason it is an important year for Fleck.
If Fleck wants to fill what he sees as a weak spot in the defense why would anyone complain?
