GAME #27: Gophers (17-9, 6-7) v. Illinois (14-12, 3-10) [BTN, 2/19, 8:00PM]

Seems to be the weakness in our scheme. It opens up some shots from the outside, and unfortunately in the BIG, there's enough talent that someone almost always heats up.

Tubby's D did the same and we saw where that got his teams. I thought Rich would force guarding of the 3 point line better, but so far the improvement over the Tubby-doubling schemes is marginal at best; and the team is worse at rebounding so overall the D is worse too. At least the offense is better...

So you have to ask yourself, why are the Gopher defenders sinking in and giving them shooting space at all from the 3-line?

I think it says something about their offense, all they can do is shoot when open and they're awful at creating offense. Good point there.

No DeAndre the difference. Does every coach pull his best player if he gets 2 fouls in the first half?

I can't think of any coach that doesn't do it regularly, but I'm not really an expert.

It should, but Gophers' opponents almost always do this. Who is the Illinois player playing like a Supergod tonight? Maybe that's all this game is missing from the typical recipe.
That's not really true. Gophers are only down 80-88 3PT made over the conference season with 35.9% vs 36.2%. That's less than 1 3PTM per game difference.

Over the whole season, Gophers still have a significant advantage over their opponents.

any chance any of the osu players are suspended for our game?

It's a fair criticism, but any scheme will have a weakness. Pitino wants to pressure and create turnovers, and keep a fast-paced game. It's not like we are giving up a ton of points, so I wouldn't call it broken.

Clem usually waited until they had 3. I prefer that

I don't recall all that clearly, but, I thought it was pull at 2, if we breakdown then the player would come back into the game to stem the tide?

Where's our resident hack, fraud, and Teague conspiratorialist GW with the advanced stats at the half?

Shooting terribly. Lil Dre was out. They were hitting everything. And a three point lead.
We got this.

I feel like I'm watching rugby right now... Yikes!

won't win many games playing like this..........................LET'S GO

so much to complain about right now with the team, so frustrating!

GV - I was referring to our opponents. That the Gophers shoot a lot of 3's and make a lot of 3's was part of Pitino's gameplan when he came here as a coach; so to see that our B1G opponents are beating us there remains disheartening.

It's games like these that make me appreciate the fact that BigGopherFan is banned.
