GAME #27: Gophers (17-9, 6-7) v. Illinois (14-12, 3-10) [BTN, 2/19, 8:00PM]

Illinois 6-9 from 3. If anyone didn't see this coming they haven't been watching this year.

Lil Dre has to learn how to stay out of foul trouble. Not having a real PG (Andre's a small SG) out there is really hurting us.

The 3 pt % difference between the two teams should be an aberration.

How bad does Illinois have to be that we can let them go 6-9 from three, make as many sloppy mistakes as we have, and still be up at the half?

Different game, same general story - Gophers' opponent shoots the lights out from 3, Gophers can't hit their open 3's themselves, and key players get in foul trouble.

Hopefully things equalize from 3. There was no one to break down that zone after Mathieu left.

I'm officially worried. We've only lost about 876 home games to Illinois in the last 15 years.

It should, but Gophers' opponents almost always do this. Who is the Illinois player playing like a Supergod tonight? Maybe that's all this game is missing from the typical recipe.

Key to the 2nd half...pound the ball inside and stay out of foil trouble!

Well, that was disappointing.
Smith- if not hitting 3's no point in being on floor
Oto- Still not getting it, more bonehead plays
EE- Missed FT, cmon
Mav- what happened?

No DeAndre the difference. Does every coach pull his best player if he gets 2 fouls in the first half?

That's what shooters do. All of a sudden he'll can 3 or 4 in a row.

True, but he has to know when to take them. If he's open, no doubt he should shoot. But semi-contested threes from 26 feet out? You could almost categorize that as a turnover right there. It's all about taking smart shots while trying to get out of his slump.

Seems to be the weakness in our scheme. It opens up some shots from the outside, and unfortunately in the BIG, there's enough talent that someone almost always heats up.

Bad enough to go 2-16 from inside the 3 point line. Wow.

So you have to ask yourself, why are the Gopher defenders sinking in and giving them shooting space at all from the 3-line?

I'm worried every game in the BIG. We're good enough to beat anybody, bad enough to lose to anybody in this conference.
