Foster decommits

So......I guess this is all Tubby's fault too.

Agree. I feel bad for kid. I don't think anything is wrong here. It's what happens when a new sheriff comes to town (borrowed reference from a message from Bleed). Oto probably is losing a little sleep tonight. A year from now nobody will remember this. But it happens and it's the sad part of big time college athletics.

+1.

I hope he gets an offer from someone else. It wouldn't be great to see him lose his shot at a D1 scholarship.

Oto is definitely losing sleep. I'm sure they're strongly hinting that he would look good in another jersey.

He may or may not end up being a good player but it's been pretty well stated that he was greatly sought after early and that most of his offers dried up later on.

As I have previously posted, I have no reason to believe rivals specifically targeted Alex Foster's profile to provide inaccurate recruiting information.

Everyone calm down. Does anyone really think pitino doesn't have ideas of his own? I guaranty Teague / Ellis brought pitino up to speed on the recruits. I'm confident there will be a couple additions before the Fall. And perhaps they will be a better fit.

Ill side with coach for now. He knows elite talent.

So does just about every other coach worth his (or her) salt. It's not about knowing and recognizing talent. It's about getting talent to commit to your program. That's going to be the challenge.

I can see both sides here. Better to cut ties with Foster now (no matter how awkward that might be) than bring him in and have him watch from the sidelines. It's only been a week, so I'll cut the coaching staff some slack. I'm sure it's not easy to give or get news like this.

And as for Buckles, didn't anyone else here read the thread saying he is going to need a waiver to be eligible at Minnesota unless he uses ye olde graduate school exception (and to do that he will have to graduate at FIU)?

I think it's clear that Pitino has a replacement in mind. He wouldn't have sent our only recruit packing if he didn't have a specific kid in mind.

As far as Foster having offers from Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, etc, there's no doubt at one time those offers were on the table. However, he certainly maxed out early. As a sophomore, he was one of the top 25 or 50 prospects in the nation, but hasn't become much better. Whether or not he officially had his offer pulled, coaches realized that he stopped growing/physically maturing quite early and didn't stay in contact with him.

Wasn't Oto's offer from FLA when Pitino was on staff there?

Anyways good luck to Alex. Seems like a great young man.

So......I guess this is all Tubby's fault too.

If Tubby performed better, then Tubby is still the coach.

If Tubby is still the coach, then Foster is still coming to Minnesota.

It's not Tubby's fault that we told him to kick rocks, but it's Tubby's fault for getting fired, which led to a new coach coming here.

It's clearly in the chain of cause and effect.

LOL....What??!!!! Sorry Foster, but Tubby didn't want you on a team he no longer coaches!

Well, when we fired Tubby, I said we must have a plan. I hope Pitino has something better in mind with so many open schollys.

It's Tubby's fault for poor performance, which led to Tubby's firing, which led to a new coach, which led to the new coach evaluating Foster, which led to the new coach telling Foster we don't need his services.

It's on the new coaching staff for letting Foster go, but if Tubby wasn't bad at his job Foster would be coming here.

It all depends on where you go with cause and effect. You wouldn't disagree that Foster would be here if Tubby was coach, right? Well, Tubby isn't coach because Tubby didn't perform. So, depending your worldview, you could absolutely place some blame on Tubby. I for one, blame Tubby and the new coaching staff.

If they told him tonight they're going a different route, don't you think it's possible they think we'll get someone else? Say, Cameron Forte for example?

I am assuming Pitino is just going to dump a bunch of current players, not honor offers and start the season next year with like 4 players.

Or, he might have a plan.

This very well could be the start of a house-cleaning. New coaches tend to not like old coaches' players.

Such as it is, it is necessary. Different coaches often run different systems. Some players can't play in some types of systems.

This is an unfortunate side to coaching changes. I think Ellis should be entitled to leave and Pitino isn't really being a dirt bag by going another route from Foster. Essentially, everything (recruiting wise) is off the table when it comes down to coaching changes. Kil did the same thing with a couple of recruits when he arrived. I'm not saying it's right, it's just part of the process now.

Pitino obviously has some things in mind in terms of the 4/5 spot.

As far as this being Tubby's fault or not, it really has nothing to do with him. Pitino is CHOOSING to move on from Foster. If Foster proves to be a good college basketball player, Pitino deserves some blame. If whoever is the 4 in lieu of Foster is better than Foster, Pitino deserves some praise.

I'll put my stock in combes1 corner. He's legit and is a very good evaluator of talent.

Anytime there is a new Boss, some workers will either walk on their own, or be told take a walk. It is what it is.

Classier to be honest with him upfront rather than have him show up and get no playing time, no?

Torn on this. They should clearly honor the commitment if he wants to stay, but I'm sure he doesn't want to stay where he's not wanted. I'm guessing it was more the later than flat out asking him to leave.

Pitino's choice, but Tubby put the choice in his hands by not performing. The ultimate decision lies with Pitino, so he gets most of the blame. But you can definitely blame Tubby a little.

Coach Smith is to blame. Coach Pitino is to blame. AD Teague is to blame. Maturi is to blame. You guys are to blame. I'm to blame. Everyone is to blame. Blame blame blame. To blame is to blame. God all frighty, let's move onward and upward and instead of blame, let's get positive and look ahead at some potential fun things coming. No more blame please?

Maturi being to blame is always a given. He's the Kevin Bacon of Gopher problems.

Can't believe all the people whining about not honoring Fosters commit. Did you not notice that HE is DECOMMITING. He has decided to move on. It's not like they are ripping up his LOI despite his plea to stay in Minnesota. Young called him up, they talked, Young probably told him he isn't the type of player they look for in their system and Foster decided it would be best if he moved on to a team where he would fit in better. This is how the world works, there is nothing sleazy, immoral, or bad about it.

If you read through the thread, you'd notice it was reported that Young was the coach that called him.

Madtown, you let sunnyday off too easy. I would have said, " read through the thread, you'll notice it '. :)

The kid gets off easy. When I decommitted, I got divorced and it cost me one hell of a lot.
