Foster decommits

Do you feel emasculated because a high school student showed how weak minded you are when you said, "Player X is good because School Y, which is a good school, offered Player X a scholarship?" I know I would feel that way.

It's ok. Unless you can bring a real argument with data, stats, or other measurements of a player's worth other than stating which schools offered players a scholarship (you know, horrible leaps of logic like you have made multiple times tonight), then I'll emasculate you so much that you won't even notice your manhood fell to the floor.

Wait, did Dpol create a new user account called GopherGuy0723? No need to get nasty. We should all be relatively friendly on this board (in my opinion).

Howard College forward Cameron Forte posted Monday on his Twitter account (@Smoothiewhatup): "Oh ya and Coach Pitino and his staff got the Job at Minnesota from FIU and carried my offer over!"

The 6-6 Forte, who transferred from Texas Tech, averaged 23 points and eight rebounds in junior college this season. He also previously tweeted that his top choices are Georgia, Long Beach, Colorado State, Pittsburgh and Ole Miss.

Ex-Texas Tech player Cameron Forte signs with Northern Arizona
Published Sunday, Apr 29, 2012 at 2:16 pm EDT

Former Texas Tech small forward Cameron Forte, one of several players to leave the Red Raiders after an 8-23 season, will transfer to Northern Arizona, according to Scout.com's Josh Gershon.

It's one of the first pickups for new Lumberbacks coach Jack Murphy, who is taking over a team that finished 5-24 and 1-15 in the Big Sky Conference, ending the season on a school-record 16-game losing streak.

Forte, a native of Tempe, Ariz. committed to Texas Tech in July 2011 with a reputation as one of the top prep scorers in Arizona history. As a senior, he averaged 36.2 points and 12.7 rebounds and set the state Class 4A single-game scoring record with 60 points in a game.

But he never saw the court for the Red Raiders and decided to transfer in December.

Hawaii was among the other schools Forte considered.

Cameron Forte Joins Red Raider Basketball
July 30, 2011

LUBBOCK, Texas - Cameron Forte, a two-time Arizona first team all-state selection, has signed a scholarship to play basketball with Texas Tech University, announced Red Raider head coach Billy Gillispie.

"We are extremely excited to have Cameron be a part of our group," said Gillispie "He has a unique and special set of abilities for scoring the basketball for a player his size. Cameron is also one of the most versatile prospects I have seen. He can play a lot of positions. He plays the game with great emotion. I feel he will be able to fit in well with the other players we have returning and make an immediate impact on our team.

Forte, a 6-6 swingman, led Tempe (Ariz.) McClintock High School to the Arizona Class 4A state title in 2010 and a second place finish in the 4A Desert Sky Region in 2011. As a senior, he averaged a state-best 36.2 points and 12.7 rebounds. Forte also led the nation in scoring for several weeks this year before finishing sixth nationally. He averaged 21.9 points and 7.7 rebounds as a junior.

"Coach Gillispie was straight forward and very honest with me," said Forte. "I never felt he was sugarcoating anything. He made it very obvious that he wanted me to go to Texas Tech. I liked that he was honest. I never thought I would play in the Big 12. It is a phenomenal conference. I look forward to the challenge.

"I look forward to the opportunity. As a player, I try to make everyone around me better. I want to elevate their game. I can player several positions. I have had this ability to adjust to the defense around me. I am a phenomenal scorer."

Forte set the Arizona Class 4A single-game scoring record, when he scored 60 points in a single game on 26 of 36 shooting from the field and five of 10 from the line. The previous mark was 58 set in 2003. He also set the single-season mark with 1,051 points for the season.

"Cameron is probably one of the best scorers this state has ever seen," said Jase Coburn, head coach at Tempe McClintock High School. "He set the state record for most points scored in a game and in a season. He has the ability to score, but he also has the ability to elevate his game. He can pass well and rebound well. Cameron can play all sorts of different positions. He has a lot of potential. His game has a lot of growth left in it. Beyond that he is a good kid off the floor. He made his teammates better."

He has also proven his worth on the AAU circuit, where he plays for Arizona Magic Pump N' Run. Forte had led his club program to an impressive 29-straight victories this club season, before a loss in last week's Adidas Super 64 tournament in Las Vegas.

Forte had been receiving strong interest from such schools as Washington, Texas, Colorado, Saint Mary's, Fresno State, Seton Hall, UTEP, Northern Colorado and UC-Riverside. Both of Forte's parents played basketball collegiately - his father Larry, New Mexico, and his mother Libby, Arizona State.

Let's face it. Some kids commit to the College - but most Commit to the Coaching Staff. Ellis de-committed before Pitino was hired. That certainly suggests that he made his choice based on the coaching staff - not on what the school might have to offer. Whatever you may think of Tubby, he is a "name" coach.

And don't forget - Pitino has some experience in turning over a roster quickly, after what happened at Florida. I will make an educated guess that Pitino has a very specific idea of what type of players he wants for his system, and he just felt Foster didn't meet those criteria.

We all must remember what he did in 1 yr. at FIU, I don't think you can say anything negative about his recruiting yet. I think at FIU he was recruiting for national prominence not just Sunbelt. He was also big in the recruiting at Fla. and Louisville. Give him some time he will be fine.

It's all fun and games. Howieramone decided to greet me as a child, so I responded by greeting him as a mindless unic. As I'm new to the board I assumed the response was fair, but I'm more than happy to bring it down a notch.

What's a "unic"?

Maybe it's just I don't think Sun Belt recruits fit in the Big Ten we'll see though...

Who's to say, we really don't know those kids. There are a lot of good players around. Probably a few kids sitting on our bench now (and some who've gotten some playing time) who aren't real good fits for the B1G either.

What I find disturbing is that Pitino didn't have the gnads to call Foster himself, so he sent out his Young to do it for him. I think Foster at least deserved to hear it straight from Pitino himself. Pitino weasled out and didn't wanna tell him, so he sends out some unnamed assistant to do it.

Perhaps Pitino has been chasing the kids he DOES want in the program, who can run his system and play the kind of pressure & attack game he sees for the new Gophers. Who should be chasing those kids, the unknown assistant? Needless to say, there are some holes in our current roster to fill those roles. There's a lot of catching up to do and I'm sure Coach P is hitting the pavement hard himself.

Absolutely was not one of the people who was freaking out and I think our hire was the right move. My concern is that the caliber of players for next year and in the near future could take a hit. I understand Pitino wants his own recruits, but his recruits for next year are for a middle of the pack Sun Belt school. If Tubby or any other coach for that matter skipped over Ellis and Foster and was in a recruiting battle with Pitino for FIU players he would have been hung on a cross.

Again, not trying to be a smart ass, just trying to look for something positive out of this. I'm very much on board with the hire and the Tubby firing, just not on board with taking whoever we may get over Ellis and Foster.

Pitino didn't skip over Ellis as far as we know.

I think most people believe he has a plan and wouldn't just tell Foster they're going in a different direction if they didn't feel they would get someone who better fits his system.

<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

This would suck big time.

Haha yeah that'd suck if they both went to another B1G school.

I'm not worried. Coach will build from the ground up with HIS guys.

I agree, their are always going to be decommits and the loss of future recruits when hiring a new coach. All I hear is about the BIG 3, if he gets at least one of them great if not so what.

I think that would be great. It would let us know if the UMN *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ed up or not.

You lost me Dr. If Ellis and Foster go to Purdue or any B1G school, how would that mean that the 'U' #$%$%^&*( ed up? We already know either one can play in the B1G.

I could be wrong, but I think he meant that if they went to another BIG school, we would get to play them twice a year and figure out whether they are high-level BIG players or not

Thanks, fryguy. That is exactly what I meant, I guess it did not get spelled out clear enough.
