Five Guys On A Shortlist: If the U Decides Change Is Needed, Aim High & Don't Be Cheap With That Big Ten Cash

Funny how things can turn out sometimes.

4 seasons removed from getting fired here, Richard may be earning his way to a job in the ACC (Miami or Florida State if Hamilton retires).

Happy for Richard. At least we had some moments while he was here, NIT title in first season, an 11-win Big Ten season, and a couple NCAAs including a NCAA tourney win. That’s legendary compared to the guy who replaced him.
Good for him. always enjoyed him as coach and really wish he worked out for us.
we gave him plenty long of leash but learning the ropes as a young coach in the big ten is hard to do

Watching Oregon St. vs the Santa Clara Broncos, and watching it looking at potential future Gopher coaches.

I really like the idea of the Gophers looking at the Oregon St head coach, Wayne Tinkle, because we can have a coach named tinkle. And I would laugh more than I do today.

However, Herb Sendek is the coach of Santa Clara and has 20 post season appearances and 3 conference coach of the year awards.

The nice thing about Sendek, is that it would be an easy transition as his team is at 50% FT percentage tonight.

edit…update, Santa Clara finishes 13-27 on free throws, but somehow wins when a 3 point shot shooter got fouled, misses the last of 3 free throws but get a crazy bounce, get a 3 point attempt, which of course missed, but get the tip-in to win.

It’d also be funny to have Tinkle and Sprinkle coach in the same league…

Sendek is almost 63 years old (not that age is everything) and was well below .500 in conference play at both NC State and ASU.

Not saying he's a bad coach, but we can do better hopefully.

Hard pass on both. Tinkle's miracle Elite 8 run in 2021 somehow bought him like 5 extra years but he's been terrible outside of that season.

Nobody will coach in Barn. Move to Target center until some money is found to build a campus arena or, just play at Target center. Even get a floor to put over the ice at Mariucci. There is zero reason to stay on campus if you want to begin to rebuild a dead program. Some of the best talent in the country year after year and we cannot compete.

The Barn is about 25th on the list of issues with the program, and 1-24 are much more pressing. Now I will agree no one wants to coach or play in a DEAD barn, but that can easily be resolved with a quality product. Not sure why people think The Barn effects our ability to get players and coaches. Those guys aren't sitting in the stands, they have top notch facilities and locker rooms which is what would be the most important to them. Anyone blaming the barn is just projecting their feelings about the building as a spectator. We miss out on top talent because the last coach was Richard Pitino and our current coach is Ben Johnson. If you are looking beyond that you are trying too hard to rationalize how we got here.

Well said! Blaming Williams Arena is ridiculous. Anyone who remembers the good old days when the product on the floor was competitive, the stands were full, and the noise level was deafening, will agree. So, as Sid Hartman would say, "Win, baby, win!"

"Some of the best talent in the country year after year"? You are delusional

I'm sorry, but what the fuck

Yeah that run was CRAZY. they had alot of things go right for them down the stretch, but the regular season they were terrible that year. Ethan Thompson was on a heater in the tournament

This is what’s known “blame shifting”.

I call bullshit. I would much rather sit at Williams Arena than a target center. It just happens the wolves have been better for a couple years, they sucked for 20, the gophers. Just need to put a good product on the court.
