Fire Ben Johnson

Heard Rick Pitino in a recent interview say he won't take a high school kid this year.
Won't surprise me to see more and more basketball coaches abandon high school recruiting in favor of just working the portal. Football will always have the high school component but with the number of players you need and the number of players available I could see some basketball teams go fully to the portal and let other teams worry about recruiting and developing the freshman.

This is what we're dealing with next year. A good high school recruiting class, but there's no way to replace Garcia with a high school recruit. Ben needs to find an all-conference caliber player in the portal, and he almost certainly will not. Garcia was manna from the heavens when he fell into Johnson's lap.

True. However, Johnson (or whoever is coaching the team) ought to be able to improve the supporting cast.

Clearly Johnson will add transfers to his freshman recruits to fill in the roster, just like he did this year. That is the game now for the middling programs. But no one can replace Garcia, so hopefully they bring in several high character impact players like Hawkins was.

yawn. This is what the bottom looks like boys, I now know what Colorado fans felt like before Sanders came in

To Coyle: If the cupboard is going to be bare next year, start over.... Bring in a name that will recruit at a high level. If you aren't willing to do that, then keep Ben - because you are basically saying "you don't care" about the program at that point. That said: Losing in year 5 to the Penn States of the world doesn't help your cause AT ALL. 1 year extension only. Time to show some ability to make 20 wins in a season vs a career in the Big 10.

No victory lap zoomies today?
What predictable jabberwocky.

I’m sadly heartening for me to see you and others GH Paul Revers who maybe/apparently (?} take joy in De 🦶 and a MN alum who will likely will lose their job at the end of the season.

It reminds me to stay on the sunny 🌞 side of the street and continue to seek optimism - thanks for the reminder Mon Ami 🤗.

Cheers and this one’s for you, my 👻 -

No one takes joy in defeat. That's a bad take on your part.
The point is that the data shows Ben Johnson's tenure as head coach is the worst record of any comtempory head coach in Minnesota basketball. This is fact. It has nothing to do with emotions of joy, sorrow, or indifference. Why does that escape you?

It isn’t who it is that we take joy in losing a job, it is what it is that is losing a job we take joy in. It is the worst coach in gophers history that will lose his job. If you can’t take joy in that I question whether or not you want better for the gophers.

This. In modern college basketball, it only takes two years to know what you have in a coach. This ending has been obvious for a long time. We're ready for the long death slog to be over. It is nothing personal against Ben.

Add "thin skinned" to your self description, to go along with childish and self absorbed.

Last time I checked, Ben is a person and not an object🤦‍♂️

I don’t take joy in seeing people suffer, fail, or get fired, as I’ve learned for myself there are many more things in life than a ball, a win or a loss.

Sports is simply entertainment to me at this point in my life, not the end all be all it was, when I was a younger man.

So, please feel free to question whatever you want to my friend; I’ve been called worse by better 🤠. You won’t hurt my feelings, as I don’t give you that power.

Cheers🥳

NYC is the victim yet again.

NYC is the victim yet again.

That would be your take, snookems! 🤗.

I’m flattered and a tad bit shocked that you’re tracking my takes so assiduously🤷‍♂️, especially as someone who has frequently admitted, “I could be wrong, I often am.” I’m not that important champ, especially for a Big 🛞 like you👏.

C, you and the rest of my joyful jolly jokers, alliteration is so much fun son, @FinnGopher @USAF and now you @kg21
are on my ignore list.

I’ll keep laughing and smiling and you go do whatever it is that you Three Amigos Doeth.

Let my boy Schultz's break it down for you, as elementary as possible, my chum -

You might want to check the definition of object.

You have seemingly used some form of dogma to separate these concepts of person and object. The second definition of object (noun) in the link above reads "a thing, person, or matter to which thought or action is directed."

Even if you were to insist that being a person is separate because personhood would involve his mental and spiritual essence, you obviously overlook that the person takes actions and those actions have results. Those results, especially in sports, are judged good or bad, win or loss.

A person (mental/spiritual essence) was contracted to coach a basketball team. The results of coaching that team, the actions taken in coaching a team, are inextricably linked to that mental/spiritual essence/person, thus making it an object. That object can be judged good or bad based on meeting the parameters for which it was contracted to perform.

Such pandering to this alleged division between person and object is demeaning to the agency of an individual in affecting their own lives.

Bottom line: Ben was hired to coach the Men's Basketball team in a successful manner and he has not lived up to that critical element.

It's still shocking four years later that the U hired someone so unqualified for this job. I still have a hard time believing it. What's even harder to believe is that there are still people who think this bizarre experiment is about to somehow start working, or that it's the fans' fault for not supporting him, or some such shit.

Whether person or object, he/it is a terrible basketball coach.
Never said he was good;🤷‍♂️, so we are not in disagreement.

I have said repeatedly that he should be let go if they don’t make the NCAA Tournament this season.

I find it gauche to dance on someone’s grave. Whether my perception is accurate or not, if that is the intent of others (to some degree) regarding Ben’s possible termination, is definitely open to questioning. I am certainly not the arbitrator of most things in life, etc…especially where many know more than me about the subject matter than me: in this case Gopher Hoops.

I simply have a perspective to share FWIW.
😃
