Fire Ben Johnson

One looks at you in the mirror daily.

No one is as big a fraud as you.
I'm sure he had a lot to do with it. I'm positive that he had absolutely nothing to do with how shitty the Gophers have been over the past 3.5 seasons. Oh wait.

What size muzzle do you wear?

I’ll have Ben sign it.

Nope. Pretty damn easy. I do find it ridiculous that there are some people on here who think that Ben Johnson would ever lead the MN Gophers to a sweet 16.

It is getting exhausting watch the futility of MN sports. Zero Super Bowl victories, zero Stanley Cup's, zero NBA championships, 34 years since a WS. Zero NCAA basketball championships, zero NCAA football championships. For G's sake we are the state of hockey with 28% of all D1 hockey players FROM MN and we haven't won a natty in 20 plus years. The whole point of sports is to win. MN sucks at winning.

Hopefully we will with our next MN basketball coach at least try to have a winning program. Ben Johnson was not a serious hire.
Ok, I get the spirit of the post, but at least let us claim the correct historical facts.

MN has 4 NBA Championships.
7 NCAA football championships. Last team to 3 peat.

And teams from the MN are 3-5 in national championship games in NCAA hockey in last 20 years. You can’t make the 28% claim without including the rest of the State.

Now back to your wallowing.

Oh please. I’m retired and a grandfather. MN LAST NBA championship was 11 years before I was born. MN last NCAA football championship was 5 years before I was born. MN Gophers hockey SHOULD be the premier college hockey program in the state yet we haven’t won a natty since 2003. No area of the country with similar types of sports teams has suffered like MN. I don’t want all the Super Bowls. Just one. I don’t want all the NBA championships. Just one. You get the point.

FWIW - current B1G Men's Basketball standings (conference games only)

MSU 8-0
Purdue 8-2
Michigan 6-2
Wisconsin 5-3
Maryland 5-4
Illinois 5-4
UCLA 5-4
Oregon 5-4
Indiana 5-4
USC 4-4
Iowa 4-5
N'western 3-5
OSU 3-5
PSU 3-6
Gophers 3-6
Rutgers 3-6
Nebraska 2-6
Washington 1-8

In my 56yrs, the Vikings are the 4th winningest team in the NFL. And it's not coincidence that it's the only sport you mentioned that is fair due to having a solid salary cap.

The other pro sports, can't say that or at least not until recently. So while there have been some terrible owners, they've been playing an uneven game.

This post is what I meant when i said I get the spirit. It was just the wording details.

Obviously, you meant a long time.

Taken together (yours + mine) it does highlights the utter absurdity; All that old shit, + the 3-5 record in State teams playing for the championship (mostly from dinky schools) is clear evidence that we can dominate, despite a lot of MNs that just say its something inherent.

The reality, is Chance is a shitty companion sometimes.

Heck, we are 3rd all time in Big ten football titles.

Vikings are 3rd in record since inception.

If you get deep into probability theories you’ll find even 7 game playoff series are not great arbiters of merit.

One game playoffs forget about it.

Agree with your take. Finally got the 2 world series titles. But we obviously cannot control these things so better to keep in perspective. Focus on your personal victories! In personal life or in your career. As I always told my players "be the hero in your life!"

If anything is true about our allegiance to Gopher sports it is this. The more we love the team, the more absurd it becomes. The more we love one coach or another, the less we are satisfied with the team we love. We move from one absurdity to the next. So we profess our love for one heroic coach after another, like little girls always looking for their prince to rescue them. I don't buy into the absurd that there is a mythic hero that brings such a personality and capabilities that free throws are automatic, and 3-pointers easily made with W's secured in bunches. I would rather steal a game here and there and grow the franchise at a small predictable rate than hire the mirage to come. We can build in bits and pieces like any other business.

This is the least popular view and it isn't debatable. History has shown it to be a fact at other times in Gopher history. Nonetheless, it remains the only reality most want to avoid as if reality were a plague on their soul.
