Fire Ben Johnson

I believe this level of math and analysis is now illegal.
I could be wrong, I often am; just like the rest of humanity, last time I checked.

Being right is less important as you age , unless you’re a narcissistic sociopath - so you have something to look forward, when you get older like me and are friends with the ☁️😃

Team is still only 11-9 (3-6). If they keep winning? Idk....it's possible. But there's still a long ways to go this season.
Can't make it up.....we are on a 3 game winning streak with back to back home wins over ranked teams and there are people stressing that this might mean the coach gets another year instead of just enjoying the fact that the team is actually playing well for a change.

As you pointed out....we are 3-6 so as great as this stretch has been there is still a long way to go before this season is anywhere close to good enough to save Johnson's job, especially when you factor in the upcoming roster turnover.

But I get it.....the negative crowd is getting restless because it is tough to bitch and moan when the team is playing well.

The problem with hiring inexperienced coaches is that they might actually figure it out at some point, but then we fire them and then we hire another inexperienced coach. Im not saying we need to keep ben johnson, but this seems to be a problem. We need to get a name or experienced coach.

Or, the answer is hidden within your answer and we wouldn't need to fire the coach getting experience.

The negative crowd is responding to the positive crowd. I'm in the negative crowd. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed not only today's win but the last three in a row. If for some reason Ben leads this team to say a .500 in the BIG this season, makes the NCAA and continues to lead the Gophers over the next few years running a successful program (mutiple NCAA appearances), it would not be MN Gopher, not BIG, but NCAA D1 basketball all time historic. Never in modern NCAA D1 basketball has a guy with ZERO HC experience been hired, coached three seasons of historically bad basketball and then magically turned it around to have mutiple years running a successful program. Never! For some reason there are Ben apologists out there that think he is the answer. I don't care about Ben. I care about Gophers basketball. I will continue to cheer for and enjoy every victory and great play I see this season. In the end I will celebrate with renewed hope the day Ben Johnson is fired as the MN Gophers basketball coach.

This would normally put to rest a lot of belief that Johnson can’t coach! (Waiting for the roof to cave in). Or that he has lost the locker room? Teams don’t play this hard for a coach they dislike. The Gophers just beat 3 teams that probably had superior athletes. Yes they will lose some more, and likely win some more, but it doesn’t appear to be for a lack of effort or coaching.

As for the "why don’t they practice free throws" crowd, Frank Mitchell was quoted this week that the coaches work with him every morning on that phase of the game. I always enjoy the "why don’t they practice free throws" bunch since I imagine very few basketball practices go by without some form of free throw practice held.

Gaining experience is never magic. It is what people do.

It must be very difficult to watch a game with such split feelings? I have heard of bi-polar, but never bi-gopher?

I'm going to keep on asking this everytime I see comments like these because I have yet to get a legit answer. Where are these mythical apologists who think Ben is the answer?

Still trying to figure out where they post because it isn't on Gopherhole.

At this point I’m just happy and surprised we are winning some games with this lineup. I’m really happy to see the Barn rocking and rolling like old times. That building comes alive!!
Used to see Thompson, Olberding g, and McHale there. The place can be absolutely crazy!

Nope. Pretty damn easy. I do find it ridiculous that there are some people on here who think that Ben Johnson would ever lead the MN Gophers to a sweet 16.

It is getting exhausting watch the futility of MN sports. Zero Super Bowl victories, zero Stanley Cup's, zero NBA championships, 34 years since a WS. Zero NCAA basketball championships, zero NCAA football championships. For G's sake we are the state of hockey with 28% of all D1 hockey players FROM MN and we haven't won a natty in 20 plus years. The whole point of sports is to win. MN sucks at winning.

Hopefully we will with our next MN basketball coach at least try to have a winning program. Ben Johnson was not a serious hire.

If you are so exhausted, maybe you should take a break and watch home improvement shows or Nova? Far less stressful. In those shows the projects are always level and square, and the bigger animal always gets the smaller animal!

The negative crowd loves to bitch and predict failure. Then, if the team does go on to lose, they can say “I told you so”. If the team succeeds, they can feel magnanimous in saying “I’m glad to be wrong”. It’s a no-lose scenario.

We have a masochistic contingency on Gopherhole that isn't happy unless they are bitching and moaning.....and then another that were immediately anti-Ben Johnson right off the bat. Those who would rather see the team lose because then they can claim some sort of personal victory on the internet before going back to tormenting their families. 🥳

With every win, the temperature on the hot seat gets a little bit cooler, but it's still a hot seat. 2-1 vs ranked opponents is pretty good but we're still 3-6 in conference play. So we still have a ways to go..... BUT Let's keep gaining momentum and improving and enjoy the ride of success. GO GOPHERS!

It's the strawman that the most negative love to beat like a drum. They're just offsetting the mythical posters who have anointed Johnson as the savior....so it's okay.

My favorite posters are the ones in game threads who call the game over way prematurely and then go missing........or post "I'm glad to be wrong." These are likely a lot of the same posters.

Yep.....if the season ended right now....Johnson should be fired. Long way to go before that changes but this little mini win streak has been awesome. Going on the road against MSU is going to be a tough one but if they can keep playing at a high level maybe they can pull off the upset.

Lobo's defeated UNLV today to go to 17-4 on the season and 9-1 in the conference

The Michigan State game is about as good a test as anyone could have in the country right now. A win is a lot to ask like you said, but if they can play like they have the rest of the schedule is gettable. It's still the Big 10 though and it's gonna be tough to get ones on the road.

Like to see the life here though. A lot more fun.

Worst case, play your best basketball for when the BTT comes around. Ya never know what can happen.

Getting into the Big Ten tournament looking more and more likely if they can keep playing like this. Garcia just needs to understand that he can be the best player on the court most nights and he needs to play that way. If he does that this team will have a chance most nights.

One looks at you in the mirror daily.

No one is as big a fraud as you.

I’m sure Johnson had nothing to do with the game plan today that led to Oregon’s first road loss and their leading scorer not scoring a single point.
I'm sure he had a lot to do with it. I'm positive that he had absolutely nothing to do with how shitty the Gophers have been over the past 3.5 seasons. Oh wait.
