It’s too early to say she will never get the top recruits. We need more pure shooters and players who can create their own shots. I am frustrated losing again to IO.Yippee another loss to Iowa in a big game. This is why MN will never get the top recruits. I know we have injuries but coach P has not yet proven to win the important games.
That is why you can't continue to give a good team a 10-12 pt lead after the first period.Iowa hitting the big shots down the stretch and the Gophers can't quite get the lead.
Need a couple more McKinney’s. Some more athletic finishers. Hart was just off. Too many players have to have the perfect set up to score.I thought this team may be different this year but it’s the same ole. Cannot hit the broadside of the barn when playing in big games. Yea I know they have injuries but the players they have on the court were all highly recruited. How this team continues to miss around the rim season after season. When will it ever get better?
Agree. Is this what we're going to have to deal with when it comes to Coach P teams? Try and defend and hope the ball goes in? Not a good strategy. Looks like we're back to the NIT. Another year this does not help recruiting. Recruits will not come here to play in the NIT. In two years Coach P best win is probably against Illinois this year. Yes, its only year two and we have injuries but the concern has to be there.I thought this team may be different this year but it’s the same ole. Well, Jan Jensen was the lead assistant at Iowa for about 20 years before taking over for Bluder so it isn't like she's "new" to the team.Yeah it’s really bad. We have a so called defensive minded coach who can’t run an offense. Got out coached badly the first half by a first year head coach.
That's bunk to say Battle should only take 1 shot a game or to lay the loss at her feet. Battle's defense was part of why the Gophers even got back in the basketball game tonight or even hung around with USC. Shots were not perfect but Battle worked her ass off on defense getting in the passing lanes. Truth be told this game was lost in the post tonight and the offensive rebounds tonight where Iowa picked up extra chances, especially that late Iowa missed free throw. Without Stewart's game tonight we had no post presence really . Sophie Hart did not have a good game tonight. She is capable of a lot more and needs to start finishing at the rim on layups. Hart let so many post opportunity's go where if she were being more agressive she could have scored. The hesitation i dont get because she is decent post. I have seen her hit jump shots and do so well on the hook shot. She is more than capable of making shots and her teammates need her to start making shots. This was a bad game! To lose at home this late in the season is not good. I know we have injuries but this was a game we needed to win if we expect to make the tournament. Need to win a game or two that we are not supposed to win now in my opinion to make the tournament. I don't see that with this teams offense. Battle does some good things on the floor but if she shoots once a game it is too many shots. Need to find some consistent scoring but it is awful late in the year to still be searching for that. I like Dawn a lot but she did not have a good year coaching this team.
I think she plays great defense. I did say she does a lot of good things. I am not saying she is the reason we lost. I am saying does not make shots at a good enough rate to be taking a lot of shots I also think she does not pass the ball enough and tends to dribble the ball too much that stalls the offensive. Sorry if you disagree. That's bunk to say Battle should only take 1 shot a game or to lay the loss at her feet. Not to mention lack of focus, energy and intensity in a must win home gameListening to the post game on the way home, Coach P sounded as baffled by our propensity to dribble into traffic as the rest of us are
Feel bad for Stewart that she’s going to miss out on the tournament after transferring home.
Doubt it. Resume is terrible. Zero Q1 wins and I think just one Q2, that won’t do it. Maybe next year if we get some shooters. The bubble is weak this year so the Gophers just need to beat Washington and a couple more games and they are still probably in.
Borderline call. Tori jumped into Hannah. Would have liked to get it but Tori created the contact. Missed shots were the difference.Hannah should have fouled out with 351.. when Tori drove to the basket.. and was clearly fouled by Hannah.. no call.. and then Hannah scores the next 4 for Iowa..
good to see Iowa still have the refs in their back pockets when they NEED a big game changing call..
also Tori needs to be aggressive like she was in the 2nd half ALL GAME long..
how many shots rolled around half way down and pop out..
also seems like CC taught Iowa how to flop pretty well.
Iowa guards are smaller quicker players. Would have liked using Hart for more kick out shots. Or post up Battle.Sophie works hard and has improved a lot. But you are doing her a disservice by passing her the ball when she is 6’ from the rim. It’s out of her range. She needs to get the ball LOW and if at all possible go left.
Battle is a very good player who should not be the point guard. That may be easier said than done, given this roster. Rose plays ambitious defense, and can get the ball across the time line. But it’s all down hill from there. She simply cannot shoot, or drive, and is not a good setup passer. It amplifies our overall lack of quickness from our forwards. They can shoot, but always have heavy coverage.
Lastly last night it looked like the team was tentative to shoot? They passed on some decent looks and instead passed the ball into coverage.
True but Hannah Stuelke smacked Mckinney's hand and wrist area on the attempted shot not the basketball.Borderline call. Tori jumped into Hannah. Would have liked to get it but Tori created the contact. Missed shots were the difference.
