All Things Pitino rumor mill thread

When does he do the right thing and say he is not interested because he was hired to do a job here that is not even close to completion. The Minnesota job is being treated like a second class mid major. Alvarez would never tolerate this garbage. Demand championship behavior Teague or are you afraid of little Richards father !

per the Tampa Bay Times:

Among possible replacements are Dayton's Archie Miller, Minnesota coach Richard Pitino and Xavier's Chris Mack. Pitino is a former Gators assistant under Donovan and the son of Donovan's mentor, Rick Pitino. Foley will now discover whether coaches consider Florida a highly-coveted job, or whether it was Donovan that made the job special.

"Like we have with other recent searches, we will have an internal working group that will identify candidates to be our next head coach," Foley said. "I don't intend to put a timeline on our hire, but we will work hard to have the right person in place over the coming weeks."

Go Gophers!!

Yay, we get to hear about this bs for a few more weeks.

Not that Boucher is a world-beater, but we can kiss him goodbye if the rumors (even if coming from Richie's camp) persist. Can't help Gophers' chances to land him. Pretty soon we'll filling the roster with Plan B and Plan C guys, especially if we lose someone unexpectedly in the next few months.

He's already cut us from his list.

Assuming Florida doesn't hire Richard, the timing of Donovan moving on couldn't have been better for us.

I understand the sentiment and I don't necessarily disagree, but this also opens up the possibility that three years down the road whoever Florida hired has had terrible results while Pitino has built the program up and that could create another bad situation.

It's also possible the new guy comes in and has a nice 10 year run. Obviously nobody knows at this point. I'm with Madtown though. Given all the connections, I wanted to see Florida open up earlier rather than two years from now. I just can't believe that Florida won't aim higher today. That being said, I would have felt much better about this if it had happened a month ago when all the other jobs were open too. Seems like Shaka would have been the fit.

I'm not 100% sold on Pitino yet. I'm optimistic though. My biggest fear would be if he left and a few of our players left too. All of a sudden we would be the next Rutgers.

FYI....really enjoy your blog.

SportingNews: 13 potential replacements for Billy Donovan at Florida

They list Pitino at #8 on the list:

Go Gophers!!

Lots of good candidates for the Gators to look at. If any of those guys are interested, I think Richard is pretty safe to stay here. I can't see Mick Cronin leaving Cincy though, and I can't see a big program like Florida taking a chance on his health history.

I'd rather have that situation because 1) Pitino will have had some pretty good success to be in the running for that job after being here for 5 seasons and 2) We will likely have new practice facilities to make the job more appealing to both Pitino and his replacement should he leave. If Donovan had stayed another year and Pitino took the job next year, we could be without a coach and a practice facility with all of Pitinio's best recruits looking to transfer.

Incredible.

So that's how bad it's getting for us now? ESPN's biggest talking clown show outside of the Steven A. Smith/Skip Bayless duo is pimping for Florida to take Minnesota's coach? Isn't he busy enough licking Coach K's scrote? Or defending Col. Schultz-like, "I know nothing about what goes on inside my program" coaches Jim Boehem & Roy Williams?

I really cannot handle another 3 weeks or so of this sh1t.....

I spend way to much time on this site as it is.

I don't think it's any big deal. I expect the Tim Miles types to get involved shortly. The big question is do we take a PF now, or jump right into fall recruiting.

The Tim Miles types? I don't understand what that means. Miles isn't being mentioned for any job right now, and you aren't suggesting he's on the same level as a candidate as an Archie Miller or Gregg Marshall are you?

Go Gophers!!

Dickie V trying to save Richard Pitino from Minnesota. You know Minnesota the place where the facilities and weather suck. Can't recruit to since everything sucks in Minnesota. Pitino must be saved from another 6-12 or worse conference record next year that of course would be of no fault of his own since you know it's Minnesota.

Of course. I don't want to get into an argument with you, but how about Fran McCaffery? The B1G is loaded with great coaches. I've posted this before. Tim Miles started his climb in the same conference I played in, so I've watched from a distance because I couldn't believe he won there.

EDIT: "U" grads having differences of opinion is expected and respected.

I'm really getting tired of our coach always being mentioned for other jobs. It HAS TO AFFECT RECRUITING.

Bring back Dutch!

pretty easy to make it a positive

Not too many people commit without the coach talking to them. Just tell em your intentions. The fact lots of people are interested in Richard is a positive!

The Big Ten has some good coaches but those are not two of them.

They both have better resume's than Pitino. But it begs the question, why do they never have to deal with these rumors?

This. Minnesota is a very nice school with a solid basketball tradition/program, a tier or two away from the big dogs (as are most Power 5 schools). The media treats it as if it total ****, which is ridiculous. Probably doesn't help that our own local media does the same (with all sports, especially those of the state university).
