All Things New Gopher Uniforms/Helmets Thread: UPDATED 1/20 with New Uniforms!!!

I like the helmet, but not the rest. Looks too much like something you'd see at a HS for me. But then again, I love Oregon's jerseys so no one here cares what I have to say.

That's because yous nothing but a young punk!

Watch out or Kapp (zambam) will give you a beatdown.

I've said this on here before, but I would go back to the traditional 60's look for the uniform and keep the helmet as it currently is. The options I came up with on the Under Armour site are attached. At home, I would go with the basic maroon jersey on top and either white or gold pants. On the road, I would go with the white jersey with the maroon/gold UCLA stripes and either gold or white pants. With all, I would wear black socks and the black/white shoes we wore this year.

I also threw in a special gold top/maroon bottom under the same template. Type of look to pull out once a year.

This approach still provides some flexibility in what we wear, but the look is pure classic. As opposed to the 1960's, I actually think maroon helmets look better with this than the Warmath era lids.

Great stuff. I will do you one better (IMO) though.. In addition to the uni combos you posted (which still could be mixed and matched even more so), use 3 different helmet styles as well.

I think all three would be an awesome addition (even if that means the white helmet numbers get replaced by the block M).

I will take helmet #1. Please explain to me why teams must have 99 different outfits.

*serious question*

I don't feel we MUST have 99 different outfits. But I wouldn't hate it either. Sounds like the kids these days like the variables in their uniforms, so I say, Rock on.

Everytime a rumor is heard that one of my teams are going to do some tweaking or changing their uniforms, I get excited. Mainly because it either means the uniforms are gonna get bad arse or gonna get fugly. Speculation is king in the offseason.

Yeah, the I liked the Mason-era uniforms, but problem was, we got mistaken for USC more than a few times (especially in any photos where you couldn't see the block M on the helmet. I've seen Marion Barber stuff for sale on eBay stating he went to USC. Ditto on Maroney. Annoying.

Wish we could get at least one game with the more experimental uni's - those black matte Oklahoma State helmets are bad-ass. A matte-finish Maroon helmet would me even more bad-ass.

In this day and age when everyone/every team wants to be unique, the way to go is be basic/simple/bold/ clean and classic. I like the Mich unis, but they/them would look better if done in maroon and gold.

If you want to 'stand out' don't look like another nascar outfit.

Going with teh simple or classic looks makes it seem like we want to copy PSU or Bama. Now nascar outfits might be good. Throw on a bunch of sponsor stickers to each jersey, tons of added revenue!!!!!!1111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I feel like if the players decide we may get something similar to Oregon's unis if the players are deciding and Nike is making them. Granted I have no problem with that.

Don't let the inmates run the thing I can't spell.

PSU and Bama did not invent/discover simple and classic. They just stayed with it.

Did McDonalds invent the hamburger?

I can see Kill's post game news conference now - "I'd like to thank the Home Depot, Pepsi, Chevrolet Gophers for playing their hearts out today......"

The main reason we got confused with USC was our tint of maroon during the Mase era. One of the few things Brew's era did right was darkening the maroon, making it less red. I say we keep Brew's maroon.

Also the fact we have the Nike contract....it's nice to have standard colors among all the teams. I don't think the maroon or gold will change.

Granted I have no problem with that.

I do. Last I checked, Oregon's school colors where not white and gray, black and gray, highlighter yellow and black, etc.

We are Maroon and Gold. I get we need an alternate jersey which traditionally has been white. black tends to be trendy these days (remember all the teal in the NFL and NHL a few years back?) so if teams feel they have to go with that, so be it.

Teams change uniforms for one reason and one reason only. They need to do something to build interest in the program. If we continue to change uniforms, we're not winning, and no matter how good or how ugly the jerseys are, it won't cover for the fact we can't win.

Zambam, only thing I can tell you is I have no issue with what you like, but I don't share your views. I encourage you, as an old codger, to stop and think about what Nike is doing with this. Creating cool uniforms? or creating revenue streams for Nike. New unis = apparel revenue from fans. Avoid the marketing trap.

I liked the sign in the stands when Oregon played at Stanford(I think); the sign said:

OUR TEAM WEARS UNIFORMS NOT OUTFITS.

If college football teams were as quick to sell out their image in 1991, Oregon would be decked out in green and yellow Zubaz and Maryland would have a heat sensitive jersey by Hypercolor.

None of the schools switching to trendy unis today can expect any consistency going forward. Dressing to impress 17 year-olds guarantees you'll look ridiculous in retrospect and will need a radical redesign at least once per decade.

They got uniform designs right in the 60s.

VERY well said.

Many schools sell out cause they have bad or a 2 year fad, color combos. Think yellow and green.

We have Great colors. Keep em and use em.

These are tremendous HHH. I would be thrilled with that design with all of those options. My only disagreement is on the helmet. I would go white with a maroon block M and maroon and gold stripes down the center.

I do not know who anyone could confuse the Mason era unis with USC. The mason era unis had no strips on the pants and no stripes on the shoulder like USC.

I did before I knew USC existed. So it was more like I confused USC for Minnesota.

BTW, For those saying Nike only makes the new unis for revenue cause fans buy them, even if we go with the classic look, wouldn't fans buy those?

According to @ZachJohnsonGI we're getting Pro Combat jerseys for next year

Rumor has it the #Gophers will join the rest of the major college football programs with a special edition "Pro Combat" jersey next year.

Prepare to be either very excited or angry!

Isn't that for only one game? I saw this on here already when all the other teams were wearing their pro combat jerseys for one game.

Yeah I'm not sure if this was the rumor Doogie was talking about or a different one. The pro combat jerseys are usually worn once a year, but I've seen teams like Boise St. use their pro combat helmets with their regular jerseys at different times, so I think it's up to the team.

Pro Combat Unis are good news, even if part of the fanbase hates them...it says that the Gophers are becoming more of a priority at Nike which is a good thing.

cant wait to see them

anyone have any design features or when they will release them, also I would love to see some actual Jerseys for sale as well as clothing/baseball caps to reflect the new football unis.

I am pretty excited to see the pro-combat jerseys. I agree with SDGopherfan as I would like to see some sales around the new jersey/uni styles as well. Don't know if other schools do that, but it would be cool to see! I'm looking forward to seeing them!
