All Things New Gopher Uniforms/Helmets Thread: UPDATED 1/20 with New Uniforms!!!

Gold letters on a black background. Looks like...Iowa. I hope that is the only amount of black on the uniform. The font is cool.

And it's a black background. I feel like a tool discussing all of this stuff piece-meal. It's like getting mad at how an architect is designing your house by looking at a picture of one window. This whole reveal is childish.

Yep...old school #s

I'm not familiar with that old font. Anyone have link showing it?

Also...how do we know it is ski-u-mah from the u-m we saw today?

No clue on the font, but we don't know it's Ski-U-Mah, that's just speculation. If I had to guess, it's just U-M. And I only say that because the way it looks to be arched, the crest of the arc is right where the dash is. And if Ski-U-Mah was arched, the U would be the crest, not the second dash.

If they do helmet stickers I hope they are really small. Think Florida State as opposed to Ohio State. I hate the nuts on Ohio State's helmets. They've been in the Big Ten longer than MSU, PSU, and NU, but I swear those garish stickers still make me think of them as 'new'.

I agree It's probably Ski U Mah, maybe a de-epmhasis of the gold and more white?

BUT BLACK?????

On a second look, it looks like the BACK Bumper of the helmet. Look at the ridge on the bottom.

I've gotta say that I only like O$U helmets AFTER they're covered in the Buckeye sticker. As a poster noted above about instant recognition, these stickers are the identity of O$U. Same as Florida State with the hatchet sticker. I like Georgia's dog bone stickers as well. If they are done correctly, I think they are a great way to reward players for hard work both on and off the field. When he was the head coach, Tressel had up on his website the requirements for obtaining a Buckeye. Not sure if it is up there anymore. But it was interesting to see how many things a player had to do in the classroom and community to get stickers. Plus they only got them after a win so it isn't a individual award, but team success dependent.

A Goldy head or maybe the old goldy logo could be nice on the new matte finish of the helmet.

That's what I said too. The ridge on the bottom makes me think rear bumper, and I'd think the front bumper would have a crossbar or something from the facemask across it.

Agree with MKE that the Georgia dog bone is another one that looks ok because I doesn't dominate the helmet.

Not to buzzkill, but it might be your age. Young fans/recruits/players care IMMENSELY about this sort of thing.

Think they don't? Watch this Ohio University video (which has a 1/4 million views):

I tried telling people about 3 months ago that most players these days care about uniforms and i'm glad you posted this to prove it. There's a reason our players are super excited for new uniforms right now too...GoldenGopherFB just gave some players a sneak peak and said on Twitter they were posting a video of their reactions in a bit. It will probably show more proof that uniforms matter to this generation.

I like the old school, lunch-pail look, so I'm hoping for numbers on the side and a very simple overall style. I'd like to think the U-M (Ski-U-Mah?) is on the rear bumper; however, I'm inclined to think that's probably an extreme close up of a nose bumper.

The ridge at the bottom looks similar to the bottom of the nose bumper portion in this pic.

NoDakGoph, you hit it.

Despite what we feel/think.. If the players love it, then I'm game. The better they feel and think they look while wearing 'em, the better of we as a program are. Not saying they'll make the team better on the field though. Just saying that it is important to some degree to the kids what they wear.

the sizing seems off with a front bumper. This is the helmet type they are using for the pic:

Come on this is easy - it says ski-u-mah in gold on the sides of the maroon helmet. Maybe the M on the back.

Looking at the pic a couple more times, I'm not convinced it's black. Being that it's such a close pic, lighting makes all the difference. If you look at the first pic that was released, the bottom right corner looks almost black due to the lack of light. Therefore, I'm still holding out hope that it's just a lighting issue causing the matte color to look much darker.

I definitely think it is the back bumper of the helmet. Look at ASU's helmets this year. The bottom ridge closely resembles the ridge on the new picture.

dude, chill out. you are the one sounding like a petulant, little child.

Loon stickers; now that's Minnesota!

If any part of our uniform identifies us as "UM" or "U-M", I will cry.

Well, we do go by UM as a matter of course in hockey. I doubt that'll change when we're in the same conference as Michigan either.

Do you feel better about yourself and have more confidence when you dress nice? Most of us do when you have a new haircut, brand new suit, nice tie you feel confident and ready to take on the world or to get that pretty girl. In the business or dating world your non-verbal image is everything (people really do judge you on appearance.

Example: If I wore jeans and a t-shirt to a meeting with a potential client they are going to think that I am lazy and disorganized. However, if I wear a nice suit and I am all cleaned up I come off as being responsible and hardworking or at least that I care.

The same concept applies to college athletes and their uniforms. They want to look their best for their games (meetings), they are more confident because they look the part and the opposition will take them more seriously.

This is probably the worst analogy in the history of the world.

A petulant, little child who doesn't particularly like being a pawn in a social network marketing scheme. I'm trying to sit it out, but I'm just so damn addicted to Gopher Football.

a pawn? how in the world are you a pawn? is someone from the gopher SID department holding a gun to your head and forcing you to look at the gopher football twitter feed all day?

just saying.

Players seeing the helmet today.

EDIT: As long as the unis look nothing like these atrocities:

Q's face and hand motion at 23 seconds made me chuckle a little bit. I have one of those hockey jerseys, an old friend gave it to me for free...I wonder why

in other thread...

...seems that Goldy hints that he will be paid homage by new uni.

From all that i've seen I haven't seen a stripe down the center of the helmet....have to admit other than all gold uni like I posted above from days of Bruce Smith this was one feature I had hoped for.
