Maybe true that Gabe defends well, but how long can we afford to play a shooting guard that can’t shoot?

As long as it takes to find it. Hell, there are teams i follow that would die for the way Gabe shoots right now ! If he sits this will go south in a hurry. He does a lot of things well.

Is Walton waiting to see if Zeke will stick around AZ next year? I would think if Zeke goes pro then the less likely Walton goes there

Who else are we going to play? He's an excellent defender and while he has not been himself, he has not been a complete loss either. I know Carr is a volume shooter but he does not have that much better of a percentage at all than Gabe. Tbh this was surpsrising for me too.
He does a lot of things well. He is a good shooter. His shooting will come back. NO team would die for a three point shooter that is shooting 21.6% in Big Ten play. His shooting right now is terrible.
He needs to play no more than 30 minutes- he needs more rest.

Wow, he was pretty bad in HS at 26% 3's. Perhaps last year was the anomaly. Hope not.
Can we also cool it on the ELITE defender line? He got beat back door several times last night, and that is a trend. He's a decent on-ball defender, but often times gets beat to the rim or bails a player out with silly fouls because he gets off-balance. And I really don't understand his refusal to apply ball pressure on the perimeter. Overall he seems to easily disengage, which I hope Pitino/his team will call him out on/encourage him.

Czar is being extremely selective and knows better. Those 11 of 42 are for only 8 games. Here is the link. Gabe certainly shot more than 42 3's in 20 games his senior year and shot better than 26%. Most teams only report points in a game.

Careful. You're not toeing the company line here. Try this:
Gabe is a tremendous 3 pt shooter, with years and years of knocking them down at a stunning rate. He's just in a short slump.

So you think it's accurate that he shot over 5 three pointers a game through December and then didn't shoot a single one in their last 12 regular season games? It's pretty obvious information is missing.

Do you not notice all those 20 with zeros in the stat line yet all those points scored? You know better. You know all schools don't give all those stats up, especially in those days.

He's trolling... Holy cow, yeah Gabe scored 38 points against Orono with Jarvis Omersa protecting the rim while shooting no free throws and no threes... Wow
Also I apologize for my part in derailing the thread. I will not do anymore on Waltons thread unless it pertains to him.

No team would die for his shooting this year. Also, his lack of foot speed really shows when he defends a quick player. He got beat badly a few times against MI State. He seems to be a smart player, but I think you give him a bit too much credit overall defensively. How can you be a “lockdown defender” when the player you are defending is able to blow by you? He needs to find that shot, and soon. His poor shooting (along with Willis’s) during Big 10 play is costing us games. With that said, I like his demeanor, and when he shoots well (or even average!) he is a good player. Lately, he has been anything but good. I hope that changes.
Info is missing but enough there to form an opinion..I saw him play several games for D and he was pretty good but not lights out from the 3 or the line at that level

He guarded Ayo, one of the top players in the conference. Ayo was 4-12 from the field. Gabe is good defensively. I wouldn't say lockdown at all, but it's very rare that his opponent goes off. He needs to find his shot though - it's been painful to watch.

The senior stats on Gabe are missing several games where he was 4-6, 3-5, 5-7 and 3-4

Players have hot streaks and cold streaks, and that's especially true for Gabe. He very well could have been on a hot streak during the games where shooting stats weren't recorded, rendering the stats you presented as extremely skewed and misleading. Without having the stats for the full season, it is impossible to know what type of season he had. You don't have to double down after you realize you're wrong. It's okay to just move on.

Bet If you pick a 5-10 game stretch for any shooter including those that have made it to the NBA, you will find stretches where they’re cold. Difference is the truly great ones find ways to erase the funk and come out of it. We’ll find out if Gabe is one
