Did they address the low risk for the mast majority of the university community? Higher risk individuals can maintain social distancing, have barriers installed, PPE. Immunocompromised walk among us everyday and can still participate in society with common sense precautions, or choose to shelter for the near future. Is the U approaching this from a ”zero risk“ perspective or a mitigated risk perspective? That makes all the difference. I fear the legal atmosphere and political atmosphere in this country is so charged the administration may crack under the pressure.
 


Is there really a home field advantage if there are no fans? Maybe slightly, but could probably make a case either way.
 



I am hopeful that games will be played this fall - but I still do not expect fans in the stands - at least not in MN.

the MN State Fair Board is meeting on Friday (May 22nd) to make a final decision, and most people are predicting that the Fair will be canceled. The dates for the State Fair are from Aug 29 to Sept 7.

if you can't have crowds at the State Fair, you're sure as bleep not going to have a crowd at a Gopher Football game on Sept 3rd.

Granted - each state can have its own policies. But then you get into the revenue issue. If OSU has fans but MN doesn't, then that just widens the revenue disparity.
 

Speaking of Golden Rodents - I open up my e-mail at work and get a press release from a company promoting its Rodent Control services.

A small sample:

Tularemia and leptospirosis among others - the risk averse should never leave their (gas fumigated) houses, ever. If they don’t get you the brain eating amoebas and Lyme disease will.

Not when survival is at stake. My guess is that, behind closed doors and off the record, those in charge are keenly aware of what's at stake if the U can only offer a virtual "college experience". The system collapses.

Kids pay top dollar for the college experience, not the quality of lectures or course content. And that experience is largely social and in-person. If that product can't be offered, then the customers will vanish.


With the exception of large, crammed gatherings (like big in-person lectures, full capacity sports and concerts, etc.), they will offer every bit of the true college experience as they can muster, this fall. Live and in person.

How many? Can you provide links to these studies that aren't from the media (by which I mean links to the actual study paper)? I have not seen anything like this. The closest thing I have seen is this:

Now, for transparency that quote is an interpretation of the data by someone at The Atlantic, which is a media outlet (gasp! /s). They do, however, site their source which is a study by Cornell University. That paper can be found, in its entirety, here: https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.07353

If you are going to make outrageous claims, you better site your source. Otherwise you're no better than big bad media you tell us to ignore.

That is why your scenario will not happen. At a minimum, all season ticket holders will be at the first game. PS, I don't see any connection between the state fair and Gopher football games. Totally different.

Let's hope the numbers are so compelling enough to permit. It is likely that the disease will go dormant in the summer. If this were 50 years ago, the young people would already have developed herd immunity.

So what is the problem? Are we busing in residents from nursing homes? No

The at risk fans just need to stay away. The death rates, as we all know by now, amongst healthy people us incredibly low.

The point of these restrictions was never to keep us from ever getting the virus...it is inevitable.

Only Kim Jong walz and his horrible models are still about peaks, ventilators, and ICU capacity....that train never made it to the station..

No one can credibly explain what the point of these restrictions are anymore
 

We'll probably be able to attend games with full stadiums as close as Madison, Iowa City, and Lincoln.

But by August, revision 8 of the MN COVID model will be predicting a peak in October/November. Walz will hold another conference stating 'the worst is yet to come'. No fans will be allowed in the stadium, bars/restaurants still won't be allowed to have indoor seating, and game day viewing parties will be held at Target, Walmart, and the World's Largest Candy Store.
 


Maybe pat Kesler can do another walz ballwashing reality check like the one last night about how the sky is falling in texas and Florida..

Well, as of 5 PM Tuesday, May 26 - you would need to wear a mask at any Gopher sporting event in Minneapolis based on the emergency order from Mayor Frey. It applies to all of Minneapolis - and the campus is in Minneapolis as are most of the venues.

And who is going to enforce this? Is Mayor Frey going to walk up and down each aisle to ensure we are all complying with his order? You can bet I’ll be taking it off first drive when Bateman scores.

Buy the cheep masks at a buck each.

Go down to Lows or Home Depot and buy the #9, 3M air filter for air conditioners. This filter can filter out bacteria and viruses.

Cut the filter into 4 & a half by 4 and a half strips.

Place the virus filter in between the 2 cheep $1 masks and then hot glue the virus filter between the 2 $1 face masks.

I bought the air filter and the standard masks but have not put them together yet. It be as hard to breath through as an M95 mask. I have used an M95 mask and it is hot and you want to take it off after an hour. My mask idea would probably feel the same way but should protect you from the virus.

But then I think we would lose Fleck. He may want to make something out of nothing, but he is not going to want to try to do that with one hand tied behind his back. Do we want an elite program or not? Time for every major player in the state to make that decision.
