All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

A couple things.

GopherWarrior is a big Henry Ellenson backer, so he's not The Brain Trust. I don't know the circumstances behind his disappearance from the GopherHole, but he's got two separate Twitter accounts and if you check them out, you will see he's big on Henry.

GameDay, how can you know "for a fact" that Sacar is a more effective player than McBrayer, Buie, or Wagner? He's playing in the EYBL, so he's not a secret, yet he doesn't have a single high major offer. While McBrayer, Buie, and Wagner all have multiple high major offers. Now maybe those three don't have real offers (meaning that the high majors wouldn't actually take their commitment today), but it's still more than what Sacar has to date. Not bashing the kid, and I hope he does well, but it seems like the guys whose job depends on evaluation prefer all three players to Sacar at this moment in time.

Colleges do not offer a kid, then tell him by the way this offer is good as long as you so not accept it.

Not a bad list IMO, but Kenny Williams should be a few spots higher on the list. The dude can flat out score! He's a more effective player than you may think. I also get the mixed opinions on Anim, but I know for a fact that he's a more effective player than Buie, Wagner, and McBrayer. I think he deserves to at least be in your top 10. Anyways, besides that, I like this list.

Cool, thanks for the input. Looking back, I should have had Williams higher than McBrayer. McBrayer intrigues me because of his length as a combo guard at 6'4", kind of reminds me of a poor man's Jalen Rose from the videos I've watched. I do like Dorsey and Morrow a lot as well though, so it would be tough for me to move Williams ahead of them. As for Sacar, I wouldn't have a problem putting him ahead of Buie and Wagner; they're all about equal in my opinion from what I have watched and read. The fact that he is from MN and might help with the recruitment of Jarvis, Alex, Amir, and Trent Jr. could give him a little extra consideration.

GW is gone because he lost all credibility with people. He believes in basketball conspiracies, he asserts things he cannot back up when asked for proof, he toots his own horn to promote himself at all times even when his "achievements" often don't stand up to scrutiny, and he is a no talent hack.

With all that being said, his advanced stats that he posted during the halftime of games were both useful and nice of him.

That confirms nothing.

The Brain Trust also seems to be drunk on many of his posts as they are regularly littered with typos, don't make sense and hurt your head to read. They can be downright impossible to follow at times. I don't recall GW ever having posts like that. Well, sometimes his posts hurt your head, but for different reasons.

The Brain Drain does well when he sticks to player assessments. Whenever he gets out of that element, he struggles mightily.

There have been posters that use lower caps on all post, typos, disagree on a player, etc. to hide from their other poster user names..

There are only a handful of HP/EYBL people that travel with the team/attends all the events, like the great GW.

I'm fairly sure that The Brain Trust is actually THE SCOUT!, not GW.

Not that my opinion probably matters to a lot of people, but here is my list of the 14 recruits for 2015 that I hear the Gophers associated with the most, the order I personally want them, and our top competition that have offered at the moment (according to 247). A nice current summary if nothing else.

1. Allonzo Trier SG (Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Oklahoma)
2. Alex Illikainen PF (Creighton, Cal, Nebraska, Indiana, Oregon)
3. Jimmy Whitt SG (Kansas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma St, Oklahoma)
4. Chris Clarke SF (Maryland, Iowa St, Tennessee, Creighton, Kansas St)
5. Jarvis Johnson PG (Wisconsin, Michigan St, Iowa St, Marquette, UNLV)
6. Akolda Manyang C (Arizona St, Oklahoma)
7. Kevin Dorsey PG (VCU, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, SMU, Nebraska)
8. Ed Morrow PF (Nebraska, Iowa, Creighton, Florida St, DePaul)
9. Dupree McBrayer SG (Seton Hall, Pitt, Norfolk St, St Peter's)
10. Kenny Williams SG (VCU, Memphis, Virginia Tech, George Mason, Robert Morris)
11. Max Hazzard PG (Brown, Cal Poly, Columbia, Loyola Marymount, Pacific)
12. Ahmad Wagner SF (Iowa, Texas Tech, Miami (OH), Toledo, Wright St)
13. Desure Buie PG (Seton Hall, Hofstra, Iona, Rhode Island, Manhattan)
14. Sacar Anim SF (Northern Iowa)
i would put Dorsey ahead of Jarvis. Dorsey seams more solid and less streaky than Jarvis.

Based on the fact we've been following Dorsey for less than a month and Jarvis since he was in 8th grade.....

I cannot believe how quickly the loudest opinion on Jarvis has changed. He went from better than Tyus, to Tyus 2.0 to a program changer, to a must get, to a terrible player in about a year. (I'm obviously exaggerating I dont think anyone actually said he was better than Tyus, but there were definately comments comparing him in the same light especially after it was apparent we were not getting Tyus)

I have always stated I don't love Jarvis, but I'm not going to knock his game or act like we are above him in any way shape or form. And to claim he's streakier than some other recruit based on a couple of articles is quite laughable.

I'm with you in that this whole EYBL "slump" that Jarvis is going through is being overblown. I wasn't ever enamored with Jarvis either and thought he had some parts of his game he needs to work on, but he's still a really good player that I think would thrive with what Pitino wants to do here.

I like Dorsey a lot too, but I gave Jarvis the edge since he is from MN and could really help start a movement of turning this program around with MN kids. Admittedly, I think that concept can be overstated too, but the Strib article where all the Pulley guys were talking about it made the idea seem somewhat realistic, although getting all of them is still a long shot. At some point, it would be awesome for MN kids to be honored in getting a Gophers offer and wanting to play with other MN players that are already on the team that they became friends with over the years. While I still want the best talent overall regardless of where recruits come from, it'd be nice if its extra enticing for some of these very talented future MN kids to play with each other.

I've watched Dorsey on several occasions, and I can honestly say its a fair debate on which recruit is the better player, so don't get mad at the guy! In my opinion, it's Dorsey, however I think we can all agree we'd take Jarvis in a heartbeat. Jarvis is a very talented player! He just has a few things to shore up.

I'm not mad at anyone. But you cannot deny the change in opinion from the board on Jarvis is laughable. I like Dorsey and probably agree with the opinion of taking him over Jarvis. But to then say because he is more consistent than Jarvis... come on now... based on what???

I get what your saying. I think Jarvis' spring has been subpar, but that doesn't change all the qualities we know (or hopefully people know) that Jarvis can bring to a team that other players lack. I'd be happy to land both these guys and get our backcourt needs for the Class of 2015 out of the way!

The Minnesota visit is an unofficial just to be clear. I'm assuming the other ones are too.

STrib: 2015 shooting guard Kain Harris benefits from advice of an NBA veteran

Harris, an athlete that works well in the open floor, currently has collected offers from Creighton, Northern Illinois, DePaul, Bradley and South Carolina. Minnesota – specifically Gophers assistant Ben Johnson -- is pursuing the guard in a serious way, but hasn’t offered yet.

This summer he hopes to visit Creighton and would strongly consider making the trip back to Minnesota as well, should the offer arrive.

“They’ve got strong interest,” said Harris of Minnesota’s staff, which began communicating with him last summer. “I can’t do nothing but wait, just keep playing hard and keep getting better.”

On his end, the attraction is there. He kept tabs on the Gophers last year and watched as they claimed the NIT championship in New York.

“I like their system, I think I could fit well it in,” said Harris, who plays for Chicago-based Meanstreets on the AAU circuit. “It’s pretty free, they let you play. I like that a lot.”

GW only has a boner for Henry because he assumes he's a Marquette lean. Will see how much he likes him if he goes some where else.

To piggyback on that:

McBrayer, whose stock has exploded with his play at The Patrick School and with New Heights in recent months, will begin his college tour by tripping to Providence beginning Friday, his mentor, JR Rembert, told SNY.tv by phone.

McBrayer will also visit Seton Hall June 13, Drexel June 18 and Minnesota June 23. They also hope to visit Rhode Island, Creighton and possibly St. John’s, Rembert said.

Rembert said at this time Minnesota, Seton Hall and Rhode Island remain the favorites.

“I always try to deal with schools where he’s going to have the ball in his hands,” Rembert said. “Most schools want him to play the 2. He’s only 6-3, 6-4.”

I hope Seton Hall doesn't have any extra asst coach gigs available...

Proof that we are still in the running for Allonzo Trier. We were the first school out of his mouth in a recent interview with Matt Jessen-Howard for ZagsBlog.

http://zagsblog.com/articles/allonzo-trier-says-recruitment-is-wide-open/

1. This is proof of nothing other than the fact that he said Minnesota first when listing schools recruiting him.

2. The interview took place in Minneapolis by a Woodbury-based recent HS graduate (who also goes by the pseudonym Matt Gravett), so for all we know they could have been talking about the Gophers immediately before that quote and Minnesota was fresh on his mind.

Don't get me wrong, I still like Jarvis and think he would be great for us. I just like Dorsey a little bit more.

FWIW I haven't just read articles, I've seen Jarvis play multiple times.

I just said that it means we are still in consideration. He mentioned our school=we are still in his mind and in the running (how far high or down on his list though, who knows).

Onto another topic, if I'm understanding correctly, Matt Jessen-Howard got rid of his alias "Matt Gravett" and is just going by his real name now. That's what his twitter said at least!
