All Things Citrus Bowl/Orlando Travel Tips, Plans, Hotels, Tickets, Actities and More

Hotel is booked. Tickets are bought. Now just waiting to see how many of us are "FOR SURE" going so I can get plane tickets.

Maybe so, but they need to make up for those flights that leave tomorrow that are 3/4 full at half the price. Nature of the beast.

BTW, for reference I travel weekly for work out of SFO. Lately headed to Cleveland, Chicago and other Midwest locales. Rarely pay less than $450 and that is with at least two week advanced book. You all are not being screwed.

I, unfortunately, travel too much and pretty much hate the airlines as they will charge whatever they can get away with to certain markets, fair and reasonable or not. That's the business today though with fewer and fewer competitors.

On to happier stuff. Just bought in P41-P43 through Gopher ticket office. Most chair backs sold out with exception of 2 groups, P39-P40 and the section I bought in. Anyone know total sold by U so far?

Not to derail this completely but I honestly feel airlines get crapped on too much. Their prices, relative to inflation, have not been increased dramatically over the decades. Yes, that means service declines, but it's remarkable cheap when you consider you're getting somewhere in 2 hours that should take 24!

Nonetheless, hope most of you can make it. I'll be there but am fortunate that I'll be able to flex travel from where I am that week and have the client spring!

So you aren't going to spend $220K to get GHers to the game?

If it was like $200K, I would have totally done it. It was just a tad out of my budget ;)

On what planet is $600 a price to an exotic location? Can we all stop making it seem like we are all getting taking behind the woodshed as a punishment?

Given the time of year that price seems fair.

I already replied to this one many pages back, but you clearly don't travel if you don't think you can get to places for $600. I'm going on my 9th trip this year. $600 to Bahamas, $340 to Riviera Maya/Cancun and I just got back yesterday, $870 to Mazatlan and that actually includes roundtrip flight, food and drinks, 7 nights ocean front room, airport transfers, etc.

It's not punishment, it's supply and demand, I get it. But don't act like these are reasonable prices. I travel a lot, and never pay this kind of money for flights unless it's out of the country.

I don't totally disagree with you, just when I feel I'm getting gouged. Kind of like post office. I happen to think its remarkable you can get a letter all the way across country or to Hawaii for $.50.

I'll be driving over from Bradenton/Sarasota so I'm lucky as well.

Orlando $324 in October (American Airlines). Sun Country and Delta were double b/c they jack the price up due to MEA and demand. Look at their calendars next year and you'll see it's double to some places over MEA.

Sun Country can charge $525 per person for round trip. If they filled the plane going down, and flew it back empty, and for the return trip flew it down empty and filled it coming back.....they would still break even. That math is based off cost per seat mile of 10 cents. Which seems to be the break even point for economy airlines. So don't tell me charging $600 is fair

At this point, I would have happily paid $600 for direct round trip too, or $700! But most people can't afford that. The charter worked out to be $1500 a person. Yesterday's fares were insane (attached), so I happily booked today.

Waiting for Maroon's "these aren't exotic places" reply. That seems to be his canned response when proven wrong in this thread.....

We are leaning towards the fly to ATL and then drive plan at this point. I'm thankful we can stay for free at my brother's place in Tampa and very excited to see this game!

In general when people catch him trolling, his response contains the words "you rubes" somewhere within. That or "I am NOT a Badger fan".

Anyone using the game day shuttle listed on the Bowl website?
Leaning towards doing this. Parking in the lots listed for the shuttles is around $10, as opposed to $32 at the stadium. Also don't have to fight traffic, and there are more/better places to hang out downtown than around stadium. So yeah, this seems like a good option.

Looks like 2 more stadium seating sections are now sold out since yesterday evening. Great job so far Gopher fans

I think this is the best plan out there right now as well. I might consider staying in Gainesville on NYE.

If staying outside of Orlando and wish to bus to game check out www.bowlbus.com
Looks like there are schedules and rallying points posted. Cost is $40 / person (may be different depending where coming from, I don't know) You can eat, drink, have good time on your way to game and back without hassle of parking / driving in unfamiliar area. We are seriously considering this. Once on site, click NCAA link at top. Find Citrus Bowl pickup cities.

9 times?!?!? Wow!!! Check flights to NYC, San Diego, Seattle for that time and see if it's different.

120 flights in the book for me this year.

EDIT: That was overly snarky of me, my apologies. But to add to my point, the season is busy and based on the below I'd say your deals to Florida don't look too bad.

MSP to Detroit for 12/30 to 1/2: $840
MSP to LaGuardia: $984
MSP to Toronto: $774
MSP to Columbus: $462

Almost exactly a year ago, my family of four flew to Orlando for under $300 each, stayed 7 nights at a 4-star resort, had a rental car, and did Disney World for under $4000. Timing is everything.

The prices for this bowl trip are high. I get it if you're a business traveler and are used to paying for high-priced flights with little lead time (helps when the company pays for it too). I just can't justify spending almost as much on a 3-day bowl trip (for 2 people) as a 7 night trip for the whole family to Disney World.

Were going to be doing this, I think they had 3 options? I also heard there's more shuttles than this, these are just ones run by the Citrus Bowl.

You are very rude. I'm not sure what's wrong with you. 1st you challenge locations, now you're want non exotic, then you are confused on pricing...Not that I have explain anything to you, but I'm pretty sure I've traveled more for pleasure this year than you will in your life, including the holidays. I've gone 9 weeks of vacation, that's not including business and short trips too. Get a clue.

I've also been to the Capital One Bowl 2 times, as a friend was on the selection committee. Both times WI went, and my flights down there were about 1/2 of what they're charging now. So not only have I traveled during the holidays, but I've traveled to this exact bowl...twice.

Oh, and just to prove how clueless you are, and clearly don't know how to travel, what to expect, or how to look for airfare, here's the 1st search I did in 10 seconds.

$396 is a little less than $840. I'm done discussing this with someone who is ruining a thread that should be a resource for people. Detroit.jpg

Thanks. How did I miss having any encounters before? I will consider myself warned now! :)

MaroonedinCA is easily the biggest d*ckhead on these boards. He's constantly pissing people off..
He needs to back to being a Berkely boy and stay the heck off of here. (or get banned).

I get the feeling sometimes his sole reason for being here is to tell people how wrong there are. Seriously, just about every post he makes is disagreeing with someone.

I was wondering why I could see his airline posts because I was sure I had added him to my ignore list. I just discovered I had accidentally ignored some other poor fella that had "maroon" in his name. I will fix that, so some good is coming out of MaroonedinCA's airline input.
