All Things 2024 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

César Tovar played all nine positions on this date in 1968, striking out Reggie Jackson in the first inning. The Twins beat the A's 2-1 in two hours and 18 minutes.

Crazy Coincidence: The first batter Tovar faced was Bert Campaneris, who was the only previous person to play all nine positions in a MLB game.

I don't want them to make the playoffs because baseball talk on the Fan is so annoying

Tigers tied with They Might Be Royals, who are unbelievably playing even worse than us, on a seven game skid.

Season over. Fire Rocco. Fire Falvey. Sell the team to owners who actually care. I'll settle for 2 out of 3.

KC’s slide is the only ray of hope we seem to have now. They finish this weekend @ Atlanta, who will likely be fighting for their playoff lives themselves.

I think this team hit the wall a while back - just like a distance runner who hits the wall and tries to stumble to the finish line.

it's a combination of youth, injuries, poor performance, poor personnel decisions, managerial decisions that didn't pay off - and more.

winning teams find ways to win games. this version of the Twins struggles to find ways to win games. it involves talent but it also involves intangibles.

I don't see the Pohlads cleaning house. that's not their style. but I hope they realize that fans will not accept the status quo. some changes have to be made.

Miami Marlins and their NL worst record should brighten ☀️up the skies at Target Field starting Tuesday, if this team has any 🌰 or a pulse left.

this is indeed fortuitous.

If they run it back with Falvey and Rocco, AND cut payroll further AND move their games to a streaming only platform, the combined 2025 revenue loss will be staggering.

Few will pay $99 to watch them, and fewer will buy tickets if they are out of sight out of mind. This off-season is probably their most important off the field since contraction.

Snark aside, they should sincerely consider selling if they're not willing to absorb some temporary losses and/or clean house. If not, they might do significant damage to their asset.

Why can’t we just be put out to pasture peacefully? Why must we be ridiculed in the national spotlight for this game?
An odd choice. Baltimore will likely be locked into the #4 seed and emptying their bench. And the Twins couldn't score more than 3 runs off a AAA team right now.

OK, let's talk about it.

So the Pohlads decide they want to sell.

the team is valued at somewhere around $1.4-Billion. First, you need to find someone with that kind of money who wants to buy the team - considering, as you note, the issues with local TV rights and attendance.

Next, that mythical buyer has to be willing to put more of his or her money into the team and absorb some of those temporary losses.

so, you need a really rich guy who is willing to likely lose money - at least up front - on a billion dollar investment.

maybe if ARod and Lore wind up losing their arbitration case with Glen Taylor, they'll pivot and try to buy the Twins......

Would Bloomberg still want in?

Mythical? They're worth $1.4 billion if someone will pay that. Their situation is still better than the Wolves was when Lorie and A-Rod agreed to buy them. This isn't 1997 and they're stuck in the Metrodome with no hope of a new stadium. The owner doesn't need to be local.

Almost all MLB owners face media rights uncertainty. Sure it's a factor. It will eventually work itself out. You need to be willing to keep your payroll at a reasonable level while it does. That might mean short-term losses. If you're not willing to do that, you will shrink your fan base and you might never get those people back. It's foolish to do that long-term.
