All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

Having a QB on a rookie scale contract is of course the ultimate NFL cheat code, will be up to Coach O'Connell if McCarthy is such a QB.

Thought it would be interesting to imagine a Viking roster constructed with an additional $76 million cap space and an extra first round draft pick due to trading Darnold.

Provided draft picks hit, both lines undergo a major upgrade. Hard to imagine a better roster. Maybe Detroit.
(Draft is supposed to be really deep at running back. Maybe grab a rb with our 3rd rounder.).

QB - McCarthy
RB - AJones
WR - JJefferson
WR - Addison
WR - Nailor
TE - Hockenson
C - Bradbury
G - Trey Smith (KC pro bowler)
G - 1st round draft pick
T - CDarrisaw
T - O'Neill

DT - Osa Ogidizuiwe (Dallas)
DT - 1st round draft pick
DT - Phillips
Edge - Greenard
Edge - Van Ginkle
LB - Cashman
LB - IPace
CB - DJ Reed (NY Jets)
CB - BMurphy
S - CBynum
S - HSmith/TJackson
I like it but it seems a shame to make all those improvements to still have Garret Bradbury at center. I'd find a cheaper RB and upgrade center instead.

Win and they have about a 35% chance to make the Super Bowl. Lose and it drops to about 10%.

Starting to hear media say this might be the most important regular season game in NFL history. The highest of stakes and two teams have never played until now with an aggregate win total of 28.

Now that would be one heck of a line. Imagine having a top oline to go with our skill position players. A lot of fun.

I wouldn't mind resigning Aaron Jones and drafting Johnson or Hampton in first or second. Similar to what Titans did when they drafted Henry and still had Demarco Murray.

For the offense they are running now with KOC, Bradbury is better at Center than either Ingram/Brandel/Risner are at Guard. They basically just have to upgrade two of the 3 interior OL spots, I would think. Sure, all 3 would be great, but upgrade 2 and it will be one of the better OL in the league with those bookend Tackles.

heard Doogie proclaim this as the most important regular season game in the history of the franchise.

look - I know it's been a few years, but we're talking about a franchise that has played in 4 Super Bowls.

in the team's history -
32 playoff appearances
21 Division Championships
4 Conference Championships
1 NFL Championship (1969 - pre 1970 AFL-NFL merger)

from 1968 to 1980, 11 playoff appearances in 13 seasons.
since 1968, longest playoff drought is 4 seasons (83, 84, 85, 86).

in short, a very successful franchise - as successful as one can be without winning a Super Bowl.

Yes, it has been a very good season. but the freakin' hype is getting over the top.

Nice...but you're missing our most versatile and arguably best overall defensive player: Mr. Josh Metellus. (Played FS, SS, NB, OLB, ILB and Edge this season for Flores...pay this man his money.)

Absolutely. Also players like Ham, Oliver, Redmond will be big parts of whatever happens next season.

Not sure how you replace a SB Winning QB

What if we dont win the SB? What if KOC believes McCarthy will be a top QB? What if Kwesi thinks our roster needs a boost to catch up with rosters such as Detroit?
It was meant 👅 in cheek🤷‍♂️😃

The off season will be there in the off season: take a breath and enjoy the present.

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
That’s why the call today the present

Ahhh... I remember one of the truly great oral givers of our time recently saying: "Today is today. And yesterday was today yesterday. And tomorrow will be today tomorrow..."

I digress.... Darnold isn't going anywhere. There's zero chance that they let him leave the building this offseason. It's not happening. Those who hate to hear that, I would probably prepare for the worst.

Lol Darnold will not be a Viking next year. I would prepare for that.

It is possible to do two things at once you know. Can discuss a controversy and also enjoy the present. In fact this controversy is a main talking point across the sports world right now. And that's ok!

It's ok for people to discuss controversial issues. It really is. Let it go. Take a deep breath, count to three, and enjoy the moment. A big game tomorrow - enjoy it! You will be glad you did! Games like this don't come around every day! SKOL!!!!!!

Bradbury is under contract for one more year, although his dead cap is low ($2.5MM if memory serves). I looked at the free agent class at C/G as well as draft grades, and woof. Not a good year to be looking for interior OL. 2 guards and 1 center ranked high enough to take in the top 2 rounds.IMG_8033.pngIMG_8034.png

I would love for that to happen and get a really dynamic RB, but it ain’t happening. Only 1 first rounder, hopefully a 3rd compensatory pick and then a fifth. Too many needs at DT, CB, IOL to draft a RB that high. Unless KAM can work his magic in free agency and fill those needs. If they could sign and flip Darnold for pick(s), that would be huge.

As I posted Friday in another thread -

FWIW -

Jeremy Fowler just said on SC that per the FO folks he’s spoken to expect Darnold to be in the Geno/Baker $zip code, ~3/$100M, with a hefty guarantee. At this level ink 🖋️ him.

My guess, is because it has only been one year of this level of production, he’s not going to be in the highest tier of QBS salary; if he balls out for another 3 years, stays healthy and is only 30 then his next contract would be monstrous 😃

I didn't expect everyone would get it.

Yes, absolutely. I don't think the market for Darnold will be as robust as some think. Of the teams who need a QB; some will want a drafted rookie, some aren't running the right offense, some simply don't have the cap space, and some will just be leery of the past failures. If the Vikings want to keep him, it's not like they are going to be competing with 4-5 teams.

They will be competing with at least 4-5 teams. This QB draft is not good.

Jay Glazer put this out there on Fox this morning, several teams will be looking to possibly trade for KOC as he enters the final year of his contract and the Vikings have yet to have extension talks with him.

Ownership was willing to drop 2 million bucks to put a few thousand Vikings fans butts in the seats at Ford Field tonight. I have a hard time envisioning the Wilfs won't write to the necessary check to keep KOC in clover right here in the Twin Cities.

I agree, but it is interesting that they haven't done anything yet and that several teams are willing to trade for him. I will be shocked if he's not with the Vikings long term, but you never know.
