All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

Watching the end of the Bears game last night and their offense is unmitigated disaster. 2 minute drill looked like a bad high school team. Head coach totally lost with horrible usage of clock and timeouts. Looked like they had no idea of how to handle pressure from Seattle. I think Williams has talent but he needs a QB whisperer like KOC or the Rams head coach (forgot his name).

Sounds positive. Tune ‘em up Sammy -

When asked Thursday if Jaire Alexander has a better chance to play this week than he did last week (when he practiced fully), LaFleur said, “I’d say probably not.” Green Bay’s defense is 29th in success rate against the pass. The Packers are unlikely to have linebacker Quay Walker. Rookie safety Javon Bullard is also on the injury report.

Packers safety Xavier McKinney is one of the league’s best ball hawks, but Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson versus Carrington Valentine, Keisean Nixon and Zayne Anderson is a one-sided affair.

Here is where each team ranks in the following categories, using explosive play rate for explosiveness and success rate for efficiency:

Off explosiveness3rd6th

Ivan Pace was a full participant yesterday. So far when he and Cashman have been on the field for more than 50% of the defensive snaps our defense has been awesome.

I hate that idea, it rewards Teams for advancing less far into an opponents territory.

Down 1 pt inside the opponents 15 yd line with 20 seconds left. The obvious strategy would have the QB run backwards 11 yards to set up a 2 pt FG try.
Agree, and was thinking about the concept of rewarding teams for advancing (relatively far) into opponent's territory which I assume was the whole idea with FG attempts in the first place. Since back in the day, you had to get pretty close to be able to make it.

But now ... routine 60yarders aren't far off? Which is from the opponent's 43. I know one off/records have already been longer, but I mean routine.

What say you to the opposite of what he proposed?

3 points for FG made within the red zone (37 yard FG distance or less)

then could either do:
- 2 points for FG made from farther than that
OR
- 2 points for FG made from the 20-35 yard line (52 yard FG distance or less)
- 1 point for FG made from farther than that.

I know that's a tough pill to swallow because it takes more effort and skill on the kicker's part to make a longer FG. But again my whole thing is about rewarding teams for making it farther into opponent's territory.

Don't tinker with the point totals. Field goals should remain 3 points no matter where you kick it from. If they want to tinker with narrowing the goalposts or putting a top bar in (to make shorter ones more difficult) then maybe I'd consider it.

Agree. 3 pointers have become too easy in fball and bball also. Narrowing the goal posts the way to go in fball.

It will be nice to get Pace back but 3 of those teams are a combined 8-37, and the 49ers are 6-9.

I get what you're saying but I'm sticking with my original point.
1. We can't control the fact that the only sample size is against teams with bad records. The eye test remains.
2. Giants and Niners were not completely off the rails when we played. Giants took Commanders to the gun the following week.
3. Jags had put up 27 and 23 against Packers and Eagles in the 2 games preceeding ours.

From my post regarding Pace yesterday, 2059, and data showing what an impact he has on our defense -

Pace was activated on Tuesday. Perfect timing to face the Pack and 😺as he makes our D so much better, per a couple of stats via The Athletic -

When Minnesota has linebackers Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace Jr. on the field, their explosive play rate allowed (7.7 percent) is the best in the NFL.

Here are the Vikings’ metrics versus the run with Pace on and off the field:

PLAYERON FIELD?YARDS PER CARRY
SUCCESS RATE
Ivan Pace Jr.No3.957.2%
Ivan Pace Jr.Yes3.971.9%
The key number there is success rate, which accounts for the effectiveness of the play in each down and distance. When Pace plays, the Vikings rank first against the run by a wide margin. When he doesn’t, Minnesota’s run defense ranks among the worst in the league.

Pace JR was not activated yet. They have until 4PM eastern tomorrow to activate him.

Per The Athletic’s beat writer, Alec Lewis’ column yesterday, Pace was activated on Tuesday - that’s why it was included in the stats from the Athletic in my post bro. The link to that article and the specific text reporting the activation is below. Again, I’m going to believe paid pros, vs. a post from you regarding activations or playoff odds - no offense intended fried😃

3. Run defense

Let’s start with Pace, who was activated on Tuesday. The second-year linebacker injured his hamstring in Week 11. Here are the Vikings’ metrics versus the run with Pace on and off the field.

That is incorrect. Ivan Pace Jr. was not activated yet and he will need to be so by 4 pm eastern tomorrow.

The Vikings will have to make a roster move by Saturday afternoon to return Pace to the active roster.

Again i do not want to doubt you. But can we not go by what the athletic article said. He will be activated tomorow. Just that he hasn't been yet. That all i'm saying on this matter.

You have a different source reporting something else.

Pace was a full participant in The injury report the Vikings released on Wednesday. See in this post on X

FWIW - per Scheffler on NFL Live, when a player is a full participant and not limited, they’re playing ( he says thst all the time when they review injury reports). Hopefully this is the case here as well.

Regardless of what is it isn’t his status, we need him Sunday, because per the data I posted he’s a difference maker in stopping the run. I’m thinking thst is something we cap all agree on😃.
Sorry for being a bit of a dickhead before.

I believe you can begin practicing with the team prior to being activated from IR and able to play in a game so both of you are 100% correct.

All signs point to Pace playing, though. For a smaller LB, he can really fill the gaps on running plays along with Cashman.

Metellus and Bynum deserve a ton of credit this year, too. We've got a few guys that are going to get paid some serious coin after this season or the next.
