All Things 2024-25 Vikings Regular Season Thread

Yes, I made a mistake, I transposed something 😱, I make mistakes everyday .

What’s odder to me, is that of all the posts made following one of the best game winning drives in Vikings history, this is the post you choose to comment on 🤔.

Merry Christmas.
For those of us who are involved in sports betting, it’s a glaring mistake. Didn’t know I was required to comment on certain posts over others, sorry boss.

Just throwing this out for fun, I expect it to get ripped to shreds and I don't think the NFL would consider it:

should the league cap the length of FG attempts? For example, must be no more than say 55yards.

I think narrowing the goal posts should be at least considered. Not sure what the stats say, but seems like makes are becoming too automatic. Even from beyond the 50 as you say.

I think a better proposal would be for every missed FG, the opposing team gets a point. Sort of like the CFL.

Another alternative would be to assess a penalty on a missed kick, giving the other team even better field position.

how about this - FG's count differently based on length.

inside 25 yds = 1 pt
26-45 yds = 2 pts
46-over = 3 pts

this would change strategy. instead of trying for a 1-pt chip shot, more teams would go for it and try to score TD's. or instead of going for a 2-pt FG, more teams would try for a 1st down.

I hate that idea, it rewards Teams for advancing less far into an opponents territory.

Down 1 pt inside the opponents 15 yd line with 20 seconds left. The obvious strategy would have the QB run backwards 11 yards to set up a 2 pt FG try.

That wasn’t my point Champ, it was that I pity posters who can’t seemingly enjoy an unexpected sports bounty, my bad again - another mistake 😱.

Thank goodness my self-esteem isn’t contingent on what occurs on an anonymous chat board.

Again, Merry Christmas

Golden Bat territory 🤔

Turning this into wrassling?

This seemingly makes more sense to my limited gray matter, as you’re not putting points on the scoreboard, which would actually be a “glaring mistake.”

The rouge/single point works just fine in Canada. I don't equate it to the Golden Bat, just me personally.

I think it introduces some risk/reward that could be interesting. If I had to vote one way or another though, I would just leave it As Is.

Are you calling for football socialism???
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

It feels to gimmicky to me, whereas the field position doesn’t; just probably my bias, as I lost my virginity in Winnipeg at a Mock UN Conference. Yes, I did say to my Canadian gal, “You guys really are hosers”🤷‍♂️

Agreed for now. Maybe in a few more years, after there’s more data, they can look at it.

It will be interesting to see if there’s any difference in the 50 yarders made % in the playoffs, vs. the regular season, as well

No it will not. the Packers and Vikings must air on Fox as the 1st game was on CBS. it will get flex to 3:25.
I actually don't think they will move it to 3:25. They already have Eagles-Cowboys there and the only other Fox noon games are Colts-Giants and Raiders-Saints. They will actually show the Vikings-Packers to a higher % of the country at noon than they would if they move it to 3:25. I doubt they would move Dallas-Philly back to noon, so Dallas-Philly, NYC and DC would all get that game if they have two 3:25 games.

NBC was already plastering promos of Atlanta @ Washington for next Sunday during tonight's game.

The Cousins benching with the rise of the Commandos and both teams in Playoff contention make it pretty attractive for ratings.
They flexed into that game. The original Sunday Night game was Dolphins-Browns.

The Packers and Vikings is getting move. No way the Cowboys and Eagles remain at 3:25. NFL will do what best and that is move the Packers and Vikings to 3:25. It getting move one way or another. And if Packers and Vikings move to 3:25 it will be shown to 100% of the country as it would be the only game on Fox in that time slot. Right now Cowboys/Eagles is the only game in that time slot on Fox and i bet you that getting move to noon. Reason is Cowboys are out of the playoffs race and Eagles may not have Hurst for the game.

I suppose Hurts injury/the Eagles loss might change things, but I tend to think they'd have announced it when they flexed the Sunday night game. Never underestimate the networks' love for the Dallas Cowboys.

They have until tomorrow to make the move if they want to make the move. It 6 days for week 17. second of all. I don't think the League care about the Cowboys right now. they want ratings and they want GB/MIN in the late slot. Cowboys/Eagles mean nothing to the NFL right now. why not put the best game of the day in the late slot.

Judd Zulgad may have just broke the news.

Ben Goessling also reporting it.

Vikings just announce the move. it now 3:25.

You placed a massive wager?
I once lost a $300 bet in my early 20s betting on the Vikes @ Lambeau - that was the end of my sports betting career.

With that being said, if I had an extra couple of hundred, I would bet in on the Vikes to win the SB, it’s now +1100, preseason it was+8000.

So, do you want my Venmo🙏?

😃

On Feb 18, 2024 I put $20 on the Vikings to win the NFC Champ at +1800 ($380 return). Cash Out option today is $45. I think I have to let it ride?

I thought it would be interesting to look back at preseason rankings. Here is the Sept. 1 ESPN effort. AFC omitted.

1. San Francisco
4. Detroit
6. Dallas
8. Philadelphia
10. G.B.
13. LA Rams
15. Atlanta
19. Chicago
21. Seattle
22. T.B.
23. Arizona
25. Minnesota
26. N.O.
28. Washington
29. N.Y. Giants
32. Carolina

Projected playoffs:
1. S.F.
5. Philly vs 4. Atlanta
7. L.A. Rams vs 2. Detroit
6. G.B. vs 3. Dallas

S.F. and Dallas are out. Minnesota and Washington are in.
Atlanta or T.B. will represent the South.

This ESPN prediction nailed 4 or 5 of the 7 playoff teams. (Assuming Rams win the West.)

Who among us on Sept 1 would have thought the Vikes would be 13 - 2 and in control of their path to a first round bye.
