All Things 2024-25 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Needed that. We shall see if this was a case of OKC checking out before the break, or if the Wolves have the right personnel to give them issues defensively. They play again a week from Sunday.

This team makes zero sense lol.
Nice job by Garza tonight. Same for Shannon.
The defense was super active.
In a lot of ways, the best win of the season.

No Rudy to bog things down and clog everything up.

It does make one wonder!

Best game ever last night by Reid? GmSc was 29.8
That's the highest he has ever had in his career.
GmSc - Game Score; the formula is PTS + 0.4 * FG - 0.7 * FGA - 0.4*(FTA - FT) + 0.7 * ORB + 0.3 * DRB + STL + 0.7 * AST + 0.7 * BLK - 0.4 * PF - TOV. Game Score was created by John Hollinger to give a rough measure of a player's productivity for a single game.
Way over my head. I do know he played well.
Garza with 6 offensive rebounds, 8 total which is his most this year. Most minutes he has logged in a game this year. His best +/- in a game this year. (I had given up on him.)
Shannon with 28.38 minutes and 13 points, both career highs. His 6 rebounds is a career high.
Wolves with 10 turnovers, but 2 of those were in garbage time by Minott and Newton.
The Thunder turn teams over 18.1 times a game. Most in the NBA
Dillingham with a couple nice drives where he gets the ball off before he hits the apex of his leap. Clever little shot.
McDaniels getting better and better with that euro step.
Wolves a dismal 12 of 46 on 3 pointers. Fortunately the Thunder weren't much better.
Nice win going into the break.

As frustrating as this team can be, part of it is because their long term core players are still very young. Everyone in last nights rotation is 26 or younger.
That's what makes OKC so scary. Think they might only have 2 players on the roster over 26. K. Williams and Caruso.

Wolves are now 12-6 against the top 8 seeds in the West.
Not sure if this is true, but supposedly Alexander shot 1-7 last night when guarded by Clark. SGA was 6-21 overall from the field.

OKC is setup very well for the future. But they are also going to have to start paying some of their young core a lot more money soon, like Jalen Williams and Chet, who become RFA after next season.

This season's Wolves are in a similar situation as what the Vikings were just in. Both franchises are transitioning from aging rosters to younger rosters to alleviate their cap issues and build around their young stars in Ant and Jefferson. Each team had to move on from an expensive star - Towns/Cousins to do so.

The Wolves future is Ant, Naz, McDaniels, the 3 rookies, and the other pieces they put around them as they slowly move on from Randle, Conley, and Rudy, much like the Vikings have slowly moved on from their aging defensive players.

Exactly.
15 first round picks and 17 second round picks through 2031. Geeze!

Not that very many care, but LeBron James is not playing today. Ankle and foot discomfort.

No Edwards either. He was introduced, but didn’t play because of groin soreness.

Edit: or maybe because he didn’t want any part of the fiasco.

And this one which correctly identifies the greatest unicorn 🦄 ever in the Association (great highlight clip of his derringer do, if you press play) -

Seems like it's been a month since they've played.

Wembanyana out for the remainder of the season with a blood clot in his shoulder. It could be career ending if it proves to be a recurring issue and requires ongoing blood thinners to control.

DiVincenzo, who suffered a left great toe injury on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the end of the Timberwolves vs. Golden State Warriors game, has been cleared for non-contact basketball activities.
Randle, who suffered a right groin strain on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the 10:12 minute mark of the second quarter during the Timberwolves at Utah Jazz game, has been cleared for full-contact, 5-on-5 basketball practice activities.

Anthony Edwards was T up in the 1st qtr. 13 T's on the year. The officials should have call Houston for a foul on the play.

Ant missed his last 5 shots in a close game again

Crazy this guy just cant do it

Nobody was hitting anything down the stretch. Houston was trapping Ant in the 4th and he wasn't moving the ball. It didn't help that they were missing three of their top eight players and Conley gave them nothing. Dillingham played eight minutes and he rightfully earned the other 40 on the bench. On a night when so many players were missing or not contributing, J-Mac would have given them a lot more, unfortunately.

The issue is this is Ant every single game of basically his entire career.

We have to try something different. It cant just be Ant jacking up step backs to lose games

Wow, it’s really tough to watch the NBA.

They ruin every star. SGA is no longer fun to watch. Can’t breathe near him without a foul called. Gonna run out of teams that have tolerable officiating.
