I don't blame him at all either. Doesn't have the skill set to play in the NBA....so get the paycheck while you can. Just surprised to see him playing a spot role considering what he is reported to be getting (wasn't the rumor something like 300k?). Wonder if he had any idea that this was the role he'd be playing?

Yeah its a very interesting Convo on how much these kids know about their roles. I will say, it did seem like he started out as a starting player and TAMU kinda transitioned so it may have to do with things didn't fit as planned.

Also nothing is ever guaranteed as we all know.

I think the other big thing too is we see the danger of the NIL free agency. There's no way to know what will or wont work. Timberlake for KU last year was a buuuuuuuuuuuum. Mahaney for Uconn so far is looking very bleak. Kstate spent huge on NIL this year and they kinda stink.

The portal is very high risk for both the team and player. But like you said for Payne, tough to blame him. That guy is not playing in the NBA. Highest bidder is 100% the right move. Sad but true.

I've watched Payne a few times with A & M. He would get more time if he could make his free throws. He looks good in the flow of the game and has developed a little game off the dribble. But they have a couple of similar bigs that can make free throws. Today he was 3-7 and that doesn't cut it. I'd welcome him back next year here!
 

The Oregon/Alabama game just started the second half. And Wrightsell just went down what is probably an ACL. Not great for Alabama.
 

This is a wide open year. I think Auburn is clearly the deepest team. But have flaws in how they play fast and loos,

Duke is the most top end talented by far. But need the freshman to get clutch/guard play

Kansas is good on paper but the random transfers still a mix.

If you picked 5 teams and gave me the field. I'm taking the field every time.

Unless its Maui(ironically where he got rolled) or like Atlantis. MTEs are mostly stupid.

Its not like Hurley will refuse to schedule good teams. But games in home arenas are far better than some random gym in the south

I think that is sort of true. The last few years Dana has had to deal with a lot of injuries. Also, typically they finish strong primarily due to how they develop defensively. This year they seem to be about 2 months ahead of the usual... They are playing defense in Nov/Dec. very nice as a Duck fan.

Question is how they develop on the offensive side of things. If they can score 70-80 they should win comfortably. Ok, that's my opinion... My qualifications for that opinion are as follows, I played small college bball, played on some good USAF teams in the service, love the game and I'm a pretty good strategic thinker. Never was a great player, couldn't shoot, but don't put me at the free throw line (89%) but was a very good defender. At 6'2" I spent plenty of time guarding guys 6'7", biggest guy I got assigned to was 7'2" (I held him under his average, but still he killed me if I let him inside).

Announcers just said that this was the largest lead in a conference game at half since the 96-97 season. Maryland had the lead up to 40 about four minutes into the second half.

We play a classier.....no shot clock version of basketball that hearkens back to the days of Bob Cousy, George Mikan, and Stinky Leftfoot.
