All Things 2024-25 College Basketball Other Games Thread

I was more referring to how awful the bubble has been for about 20 years.
Agreed, which is why if they're going to have play in games, make all the play in teams bubble teams. No reason conference champs, who are automatic qualifiers, shouldn't make it to the round of 64 when a couple of teams that had all season to prove they belong, but didn't, get to be there without earning it.

Michigan gets ripped off. Beats Wisky and gets the 5 seed while Wisky gets the 3 seed.
Michigan also ahead of them in conference and a better overall record. Strength of schedule maybe?
automatic 2 seed line docking by losing to the gophers

The NIT and CBI brackets are out, only three Power 5 teams in the mix. Stanford, SMU and Georgia Tech. The College Basketball Crown tournament hasn't released its bracket yet but is expected to have some Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East teams. CIT has also not released their bracket yet but word is that it's happening.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the NIT just going to mid majors. I'd watch it more closely than the Crown tournament

Four non-NCAA tournaments is ridiculous.

Here's the College Basketball Crown bracket. As expected it's largely made up of Power 5 teams. It's mostly a mix of Big Ten, Big East and Big 12 teams out there.

Colorado went 3-17 in the Big 12 and 14-20 overall and they're in a postseason tournament. What a joke.

DePaul wasn't much better at 4-16 in the Big East and 14-19 overall

EDIT: Arizona St. was also pretty bad at 4-16, 13-19

  • UCF, 17-16
  • Utah, 16-16
  • USC, 16-17

I miss the days when you at least had to be .500 overall.
I used to enjoy watching the Gophs in the NIT, after the disappointment of being on the wrong side of the bubble wore off. Obviously it wasn't the NCAA but the times they did well in the NIT it was fun. Now these other tournaments are pretty meaningless and I'm guessing more and more power 4 teams will decline to play so they can focus on the transfer portal and player retention.

The 2012 and 2014 runs were really fun to watch. Obviously making the NCAA tournament is always the goal but seeing the Gophers play some more games and getting to experience some of the mystique of Madison Square Garden was enjoyable.

I can't imagine things like "The Crown" will be profitable. I guess we'll find out. Go back to one other tournament. 32 teams and it might actually be worth watching.

I don't really see it either. It has a lot of money behind it, lots of sponsors and I'm guessing they're going to be pushing the sports betting aspect to bolster it. Plus it being on Fox should give it some numbers, but I just don't see it having staying power if it pulls in teams with losing records and the product flops.

Also the name is kind of ostentatious if you ask me. College Basketball Crown? Which is basically what the NCAA Tourney winner really gets when you think about it? The NIT and CBI names are just straightforward in that they are post season invitationals. The name makes it sound grander than it actually is.

The only thing I'll say it has going for it is the timing and format. It starts the day after the Elite 8 ends, so there's no NCAA games against it and it's all in one place which limits the cost.

Niko should throw a bag at Mulholland from Chattanooga,

Not too big of a bag. I like the kid and I've watched him in three late season games now (one in Chattanooga's conference tournament and two in the NIT) but I don't think he's quite Big Ten starter quality just yet. He's still young, just a redshirt freshman. He can do a lot of things and he really moves around the floor well but he needs to become more comfortable going inside and not settling for three pointers so often.

He’s not meant to play inside.
