All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Probably because MLB went from 16 to 20 teams during that timeframe.

I'm personally fine with it because you still play the majority of your games against your league.
Interesting thought about the majority games against your League.

This year for MLB it's up to 28.3% Interleague games (43 of 162).

NFL it's 29.4% Inter-conference games (5 of 17)
NBA it's 36.6% Inter-conference games (30 of 82).
NHL it's 39.0% Inter-conference games (32 of 82).

I'm fine with the multiple awards as well, just find it unique. There's no movement I am aware of to reduce them.

Apparently the word on Maeda is that he was just tired. Rocco says he should be fine to make his next start.

I do think(hope) Maeda is fine it didnt look like much.

But you must be new here if you think anything Rocco says should be taken at face value. Hes the king of "should be fine" then player is magically in a medically induced coma by weeks end.

With even more Interleague play, I wonder why they still feel the need to have awards (Cy Young, MVP, Gold Glove, Batting title, etc) for both the American AND National Leagues. Perhaps the MLBPA insists upon it for incentive bonuses.

When the Cy Young was introduced, it was an overall award (1956 - 1966) then in 1967 they split them up for each respective League.

Maybe if they blow up the AL & NL alignments it will change.

To be fair this is the first year of full interleague.

And even so, you still play way more games against your own division and league.

I don't disagree, but the percentage of inter-league/conference games is now virtually the same as the NFL, and only marginally different than the NBA/NHL and they have just 1 award.

It's fine as is, no issue with it, for now. There's nothing wrong with it being unique.

By the next Labor agreement though there is going to be a push to completely restructure Divisions/Leagues & Postseason. The Twins could be in a division with the Brewers, White Sox and Cubs, for instance. At that point I would guess the Awards are also going to be condensed.

Expansion could have even further impacts.

The reason I think he's probably telling the truth here is because no one was looking at him or anything afterwards. He stayed in the dugout without a trainer nearby. Something more serious he's probably back in the clubhouse.

However, I could see them bumping back his next start just to be cautious. Hopefully it really is nothing, just fatigue related.

The traditionalist in me hates the idea. But from a practicality standpoint, it makes sense.

TBH im good if they want to space out Maeda starts. He looked good yesterday but theres still a lot to come back from. And Im a big Ober guy so getting him some reps isnt the worst thing.

Due to injuries and overall personel. Our lineup cant just magically become an elite offense. Just cant happen. Occaisional explosions like monday(against weaker pitching) of course.

That said, the one thing we can control is a semblance of competent ABs. This team is just going up there and trying to end at bats as soon as possible and talented pitchers are eating their lunch. Quick innings of no stress.

Its like every guy on the team has somewhere to be in 2 hours.

I have to wonder how much the pitch clock speeds guys up to the point they are less patient at the plate too. I'd be curious to see if there are less pitches per at-bat so far this season compared to last.

One other recent factor came to mind, starting last year the Leagues are now playing by the exact same rules for the first time since 1973 for every game. That was when the American League introduced the Designated Hitter. Much more level playing field, in terms of awards.

This is also the first year every MLB team will play each other, just like the NBA & NHL.

The plate appearances by the twins last night and today have not been great. Just up there swinging away early in the count. 7k’s through 4 today.

Rocco Baldumbass cannot continue to manage a major league baseball team.

This guy has no fucking clue. He has no feel for the game.

Lopez was DEALING. Literally mowing guys down. Not a sweat. 86 pitches. 1 hit since the first inning. Just struck out the side.

Marlins pitchers both throw 100 back to back games.

Rocco pulls his dealing starter. Has tunnel vision to bring in Thielbar the moment Arraez is used....knowing the rules are you must face THREE not just 1 batter. Bang. Blood bath.

Hes been in over his head for years.

I’m perpetually upbeat - my bad.
In your case, 4-0 was uncorrelated to the emotion. Carry on.

If there is a genuine reason to be giddy, it's that their pitching has been solid in this really small sample size. It's so small that 6 MLB games equates to being in the middle of the 3rd Quarter of Game 1 in the NFL season.

As for me, the Twins Magic Number to clinch the AL Central is 157, I believe. I'm a ways off from being giddy. But I'm not distressed either.

I think the key to the season relies on Larnach staying healthy, as that stick he swings has magic in it, and his production has never been an issue and he can be a legit MLB difference maker IMO-I’ll be pop an article later regarding this and how the new trainer has already had a measurable impact with him in quest for health! This should encourage all, as it wasn’t where it should have been before apparently.

4-0 will be 4-5 by Sunday with the Astros in town. Could be worse I suppose.

Hopefully we see Polanco and/or Kirloff some week soon. Sure could use Gio Urshela on this team right now.

i personally thought we would lose both of the opening series so I'll take 4-2. The bats really need to come alive soon.

I wonder how much the concessionaires are losing with how fast these games are going? Delaware North is paying the twins a lot of money and with games only taking 2 hours they are losing a lot of potential sales time. Not to mention with beer sales ending at the 7th you might only have 90 minutes or so to enjoy beer from the first pitch.

They need to keep beer sales going to the end of the game and keep the special bar areas open after the games.

That said this is the greatest baseball season in the history of baseball with how fast they are moving.

Games were routinely this short or shorter a few decades ago.

Peole will adjust. Stay late for a beer or come early. Is the 7th inning thing a state law?

I am missing the point of this comment.

Decades ago you were also limited to a hot dog, popcorn, and nuclear waste nacho cheese. That was before everything was about making as much money as humanly possible and providing a “premium” experience. There also was not a company paying the twins millions if not tens of millions of dollars a year to provide their concession items for them. If the concession people are not making as much money then the twins won’t get as much money when it’s time to renew the contract.
