All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Still not a hit with men on.

But that was a great fucking AB by Buck. Big time run.

Ugly win is better than a pretty loss.

I kinda feel bad for Trevor May. Was really good for awhile, then just fell off quickly. Now trying to hang on in that disaster at Oakland.

Well, at least he has now officially faced every team in the league....

Per Shama.

Don’t expect the Twins to part with manager Rocco Baldelli any time soon, even if the club slumps during the second half of the season. If it’s a rough finish Baldelli might well have reason to worry about his job security.

Win Twins!!

FWIW -
Julien vs RH pitching - .297 BA with .947 OPS
Julien vs LH pitching - .167 BA with .333 OPS

Hes 24 and had 18 ABs. You dont stunt growth at 24.

Also, Castro playing today over Wallner. He has a .330 slug vs lefties.

Castro has been huge this year in his versatility. But hes not an everday player. Rocco still does it...

Its not irrational anger when someone(not just me basically any Twins fan) says that Rocco is a complete dipshit and in over his head as a manager.

He stunts the growth of youth. They are the players with legit talent but the ones who can only face same sided pitching as a last resort. Wallner, Julien, AK they are the future. We wont let them face lefties??

Kepler vs lefties this year .195/.250/.342 Career(like a decade): .212/.286/.350. Yes for his Career Kepler hits lefties at a .350 slug. Rocco logic.

Castro: slugging .329 vs lefties this year. Was brought here to be a bench player. Now starts against over our talented youth. Hes also 6/37 in his last 14 games.

Sears the pitcher: While righties obviously slug better against him. Lefties are hitting .286 against him while righties hit .205. This right there proves the Twins and Roccos philosophy is all our nothing. Its why our offense sucks. Who cares if guys get on base.

Also Vazquez starting again is goddamn comedic.

We are run by a guy who doesnt look at stats. He doesnt try to develop talent. And he doesnt try to put the best lineup possible out there. Any wins, any success are done in spite of our manager and in spite of blatant in your face logic.

Also, even if you want to sit the youth. Gallo should have priority over both Kepler and Castro as well. Its fucking mental.

Eventually, maybe a left-handed batter might just have to face a left-handed pitcher. It's extremely difficult to get better at damn near anything without repetition.

More fun with Twins organizational logic.

We traded away Arraez(I will always say good trade) to get Lopez(even tho he was embarrassing yesterday) a legit starting pitcher. Because we felt we had depth to replace Arraez. Now everyone bitching about how good Luis is hitting but here is the funny thing. Not only has Lopez been going toe to toe with him in bwar. Look at this..

Arraez .383/.434/.472 OPS of .906 OPS+150

Julien: .279/.355/.515 OPS of .870 OPS+ 138

Now due to Arraez insane average he holds the overall edge. But in Juliens brief expereince we have nearly replaced Arraez bat(way more power which is our odd philosophy anyways) AND we got a legit top 3 rotation arm to do it. Julien still gets on base at a excellent clip though. And his batting average is like .40 pts above our team average I believe.

But, ya know Julien struggles to play everyday and cant even make the roster if not for Polanco being hurt.

Out of curiosity......who do you LIKE on this team?

Out of curiosity......who do you LIKE on this team?

Ryan, Ober, Gray, Jax, Duran, Lopez, Maeda(when hes our 5th and not blocking Ober), Gallo, AK, Julien, Wallner, Castro(as a super sub), Donny Barrels, Stewart(when hes on the roster), Correa(defensively), Jeffers, Taylor all definitively.

So now that we summed up your question was stupid.

Your turn, what did I say that was incorrect. Hint, nothing since I posted literal statistics that are objective.

I think its easier to say who I hate on this team. Vazquez. Thats literally it. Hes bad at baseball and should not be rostered under any circumstance.

Now do I hate when we play Farmer and Castro everyday when they were brought here to be role guys off the bench, yes. But that isnt Farmer and Castros fault

Do I hate Moran being our only lefty in the pen and using him with men on base? Yes, because well again moronic roster construction.

Do I hate that Buxton bats 3/4 as a DH only who cant hit with men on? Well yeah, again numbers dont lie.

Actually if you go through all these pages on here I am like the one person not repeatedly saying DFA Kepler. Hes a great 4th outfielder still. Occaisional pop(especially vs righties) and defense.

I HATE how every player on this team is objectively used in a negiglient fashion. This team should easily be 10 games over .500 with this roster. And its ironically still not a great roster. Thats how bad its been managed by Rocco and Falvine.

Petty insult aside, one of your better posts. It's hard to filter through all the negativity in your posts to read actual content. Others have said the same. I'm sure I'll get the same response as they did. You can post the way you want.

I personally don't believe there are remotely enough major league level players to fill out 40 man rosters or even provide adequate depth for all teams. So is that a roster construction issue across the board? You allude to that in your post above on Castro and Farmer. I agree with you there. Are there many lock-down bullpens currently? I'm not sure. The long range vision of this team (in my view) was to rely on the group of players that have now arrived -- Lewis/Gordon/Kirilloff/Julien/Buxton/Wallner/Miranda/Larnach/etc, develop a starting staff, and add free agent pieces. They have done an adequate job with the 2nd and 3rd. I just haven't seen enough from this core to believe they are on the verge of anything meaningful. To me, that is bigger than Rocco.

Correct roster construction is bad in terms of getting proper known help especially in the bullpen.. Hence the Moran comment. I guy with as bad of control as he does simply cannot be your only lefty reliever. He just cant be. Its a nightmare anytime he comes in with men on base because its like a 50/50 chance he walks the first guy. Heck even Theilbar who was originally our only lefty is basically a specialist. Like cmon.

Jax and Duran are all I trust out of the pen until Stewart returns. But the rest are fine(so long as Pagan is not used in high leverage) as role guys. Our starters usually go deep enough and no one guy really gets singled out in the pen so I dont complain much. Why we didnt add a reliever already? Who knows, theres no law you must wait til deadline day. Chapman was there.

But as far as our position players, yeah its gonna be flawed no matter what especially with our hitting approach if no one changes it. But its decently constructed in terms of having an adequate bench with versatility both defensively position wise and experience and right/left.

Maybe its not all Rocco it might be Falvine telling him who to start. But the lineups we constantly make are suboptimal.

LIke I said its not even a hate for someone like Farmer. He sure as shit did not sign here thinking he was gonna be batting clean up like every game now days. He was brought here with SOlano to be better bench bats to hit lefties(ironically lefties hes not even hitting well). Same with Castro as a super sub.

Our offense has holes regardless. Why not let AK hit against lefties? Julien get some experience. Theres better odds that really naturally talented players hit same sided pitching then journeymen. AK even without the MLB power so far still gets on at a .370 clip.

And as I mentioned in my post above, like just look at the stats Rocco or Falvine. Its not castros fault we are starting him vs lefties when numbers say he doesnt hit them. Or numbers say lefties get on more vs Sears.

At the deadline we absoltely need to make a legit trade for 1 or 2 bats. And then 1 or 2 relievers. 3 players total imo. In order to truly have a shot to win a playoff series.

But the roster as built now is still good enough to absolute run away in this trash division. We havent because of awful game to game management. our run differential vs the rest of the division shows that. We blow games more often then we flat out get beat.

Really good post here. I would have a hard time disagreeing with most of what you posted.

I'm not a big fan of Rocco either, but I probably don't put as much of the blame of the mediocre performance on him as you do. But it is hard to deny or explain with as good as our starting staff has been for the majority of the year that the record isn't better.

One thing I will give Rocco credit for even if I think its mostly obvious, is hes using his starters way more as he should. Still some odd decisions like that game when he lifted Gray after 4 to bring in Moran. Or even letting Lopez keep going yesterday. But overall hes done well.

And even with our brutal offensive game plans nightly. It seems like this year hes done a much better job of "small ball" at the right times. Again some decisions are obvious in my mind, but we werent doing those in years past. Now we steal timely bags and BUNT. That was foregin in past years.

My issue this year is way more with the day to day lineup construction and the odd platooning. We obviously have no chance of being the Braves offense but look at that team. They literally just trot the same lineup out there. Guys are not batting 2nd one day and then 8th the next. For no logical reason. Lot of teams are the same.

The agrument can be well thats because they are good lineups, but that also could be why some lineups are good. Continuity.

Tigers fans 2 weeks ago flipped their shit about Kerry Carpenter getting the Julien treatment and consistently being benched as their best bat. Hinch finally started getting questioned on it and has stopped. Carpenter hasnt stopped hitting.

Tigers are also a bad team and bad offense. So its annoying that we are doing the similar things to the bad teams and not trying what the good teams are doing.

Also, I'm well aware that Wallner could possibly go 3/21 with 10 Ks during this call up. But shit, we at least know hes got talent lets see what he can show. We all know Willi Castro is a sub .700 OPS role guy. So whats the point in starting him? Let him come in and pinch run in a key spot when he can literally change the game.

Nice to get that double play before that homer.

1st game I've actually seen this year, and all 27 fans in attendance are mostly Twins fans.

The home run problem is back in a big way for Ryan. As i type this they nearly hit another.

Hes gotta limit those.

Unless its the Royals this team goes absolutely limp when trying to complete sweeps.

Want an awful first 4 innings.

Wake the fuck up.

Texas just put up 4 in the 8th to go up 6-5
