All Things 2023-2024 Minnesota Twins Off-Season Thread

Tigers and Royals are both making moves while the Twins do absolutely nothing.
Eh, it's still early. It isn't about who makes the moves first, it's about how makes the better moves. They're working on some trades.
Their philosophy is to patiently wait till the market settles and better opportunities are available; Lopez wasn’t actively being shopped last season and then they found that Miami wanted to improve their O and they had the knowledge that Julian was ready to fill that spot, which he did with aplomb having a higher OPS+ than Luis.

He also showed he can be a decent/good fielder, as was demonstrated in the second half of the season - article stated he’s out early daily taking extra grounders and has the drive and commitment to be a good all-around player - borderline AS in my hackneyed opinion.

He did?

FWIW I'm on board with the rest of your post, but not so sure about the bolded.

Off by 3; 133 (Luis) 130 (Eddie) - this was accomplished with 209 more ABs - will be interesting to see what Eddie does in a full season.

So I was incorrect, however, within the margin of error🥴.

The Twins were pleased with his progression, per articles I read, as I was FWIW, in the second half and I doubt he’ll be pulled much in his sophomore campaign.

I can’t wait for the season to start

I get that, but they can't fill every need they have via trade. I assume/hope they will get a starter that way. But they still need address CF, 1B, reliever and potentially catcher depending on who they're trading. And FA options are starting to come off the board pretty quickly.

Good is relative but there's no argument that he got much better in the field as the season went along.
What is your supposition that he didn’t improve based on?

Your opinion?
Data?

Mine is based on my eval FWIW and articles written not the Athletic’s beat writer.

His value assigned by baseball savant is 49% (50%) is average. Would expect improvement in his second season.

Per articles in The Athletic they will likely be rolling with Miranda as the right hand bat at first in spring training and see if AK and he can be the answer.

Catcher, of course, was addressed by moving Jair Carmago to the 40 man roster and he is the replacement if Vasquez is traded or there are any injuries and that trade doesn’t happen during the season - per The Athletic, as well.

The Athletic runs specials regularly for a Buck 🥴 a month

I'm saying he DID improve in the field. Source : My eyes.

The Star Tribune finally broke me into paying after years of resistance. I refuse to pay for two print sources.

Sadly incognito mode doesn't work on them anymore.
It gives me a free story every fifth day - when I subscribed 5 years ago, my data got hacked, per a Norton report - they never notified me - may not have even known.

I like letting the market settle first.
You and Derek do your Christmas shopping on December 27th and lie to the kids about what day it is. But you get a great deal and once in a while you spend big on a double return from the Dior store.

as of today, the Twins do not know what their TV deal will be.
They don't know how much revenue they have to work with.
and presumably don't know what their payroll is going to be.

I think the TV deal has to get done first before the Twins make any moves that will have an impact on the payroll.

we're two months away from Spring Training. tick tock.

more on the Twins' TV future - from 'Bring Me the Sports' -

Minnesota Twins games on Amazon Prime in the future?

It's a possibility, according to a report from the New York Times that says Amazon is in talks with Diamond Sports Group, the bankrupt operator of the Bally Sports regional sports network that has baseball fans in Minnesota and elsewhere wondering how they'll be able to watch games next season.

"It will be on. Twins will be televised in 2024. Mark it down," new Twins television announcer Cory Provus said on the Gleeman & The Geek podcast this week.

It's just a matter of where fans will be able to find the games and whether they'll have to subscribe to a new vendor or watch the games for free.

The New York Times report says Amazon could invest in Diamond Sports Group to stop the company's financial bleeding and revive operations, though a deal is said to be in the early stages and could still fall apart.

Amazon already streams the National Football League's Thursday Night Football in addition to other select games. Prime Video currently costs $14.99 a month.

Provus told Aaron Gleeman and John Bonnes that updates out of federal bankruptcy court in Houston, Texas could come in early January, and at that point he expects to "get some more clarity" about where the Twins will be on TV in 2024.

"If the Twins are back on Bally, it'll be for one more season," Provus said. "And that would be because some new term sheet was agreed upon by the Twins, by MLB and by Bally, that some semblance of a rights fee – it's not going to be the $60 million – but some semblance of a rights fee is going to be handed the Twins' way. And that's better than nothing."

The Twins' deal with Bally Sports expired after the 2023 season.

Provus said blackouts "will be dissolved in any new deal," meaning Twins fans will be able to access games regardless of where they are. Will that require a subscription to Prime Video or another medium like MLB.tv? That's unknown.

"I'm confident that if indeed the Twins are back on Bally for the 2024 season, the most significant change will be blackouts, because blackouts are going away," Provus said.

If they're not back on Bally or the talks with Amazon don't progress, Provus suggested that Major League Baseball could take over the broadcast operation and simply find a channel to put the games on while making it available to fans.

"I think that's certainly in play," Provus said.

It’s is a thing of beauty when he connects. The Twins could use a power hitting first basemen for 2024.
I”d sign him to a minor league deal and have Correa do a sit down with him and give him a come to Jesus speech. If he made the club Howey made need to be tranquilized.

Seriously, is 3o lbs. enough?

If nothing ejse, it gave me an excuse to this to this gem -

Popped up in my UTube feed and a great testimonial to the superstitious nature of baseball players, how the placebo effect works and that snake oil still exists.

I remembered them once I started watching, but had no clue to their name or prevalence. The good guys are represented by Hawk in some pics. You don’t have to watch the whole thing to chuckle.

If they were around in my playing day I would have bought several 🤣🤣🤣. I had to settle for reading an acronym on my batting gloves 🧤- WWL ( the infamous Watch Wait Lash) no head case here🤪

That was interesting, thanks

Sano on a minor league deal is fine. It's all about whether Rocco gets fixated and demands to run him out there no matter what a la Gallo.

Ask your doctor if Ozempic is right for you...

He lost way more than 30.

Remember when in spring training, Nellie put on his uni pants to mock him and show how fat he was?

He would have needed a steel cable to keep those things from falling down.
