All Things 2023-2024 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Howl Wolves!!

Important note in the story.

Lore and Rodriguez still have more time to raise the necessary money to complete the majority purchase, which will be subject to NBA board of governors approval.

This filing is expected to close a process that began in April 2021 for Lore and Rodriguez to purchase the Timberwolves and Lynx in installments from Taylor. Lore and Rodriguez previously purchased two installments of 20% at a $1.5 billion valuation for the franchise.

Here's how ESPN described the Wolves win tonight. It certainly wasn't pertty. The Star Tribune goes into more detail.

Minnesota (23-7) overcame a bad 2nd Quarter and beat a depleted Mavericks (18-14) team 118-110. Here's how ESPN saw it:

Anthony Edwards scored a season-high 44 points and Rudy Gobert had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves held on for a 118-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.

The Mavericks were without Luka Doncic on the second night of back-to-back games. Dallas fell at Cleveland 113-110 on Wednesday.

Karl-Anthony Towns added 10 points for Minnesota, which improved to 13-1 at home this season.

The Timberwolves trailed by one point midway through the third period before going on a 15-3 run to gain control and leading the rest of the way.

Doncic missed his third game of the season with left quadriceps soreness, while Kyrie Irving missed his 11th straight with a right heel contusion. Dallas coach Jason Kidd said Doncic aggravated a quadriceps injury during the Christmas Day win against Phoenix.

Without its two leading scorers, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 32 off the bench and Jaden Hardy added 17 for Dallas. The Mavericks have lost five of seven.

Minnesota seemed ready to cruise past the short-handed Mavericks, racing to an 18-point advantage in the first quarter, with Edwards scoring 14 of his points and aggressively going at Dallas’ defense..

Turnovers by the Wolves kept Dallas in contention and Hardaway’s shooting provided a much-needed spark.

Minnesota had 22 turnovers, leading to 29 points for the Mavericks.

Hardaway finished with 18 of his points in the second half and shot 11 of 19 from the field and 5 of 11 from 3-point range, knocking down several shots with a hand in his face.

But Edwards sparked the third-quarter rally with seven of the 15 points during the run. Dallas closed within four points in the fourth quarter, but consecutive 3-pointers by Kyle Anderson helped Minnesota stay in front.

Can I tell you how dumb it is to have "heat culture" at midcourt for the Heat home games?

Right up there with having "The Barn" on the court at Williams

So I'm watching some Denver and OKC. OKC is just toying with them. They ripped them a new one.

This SGA guy is ridiculous. Holmgren is getting so good.

They are going to be a problem for years to come.

Based on recent franchise sales, these guys are purchasing an asset worth at least $2.5B for $1.5B. Seems really odd that they haven’t delivered the funds to take majority control.

That was weird. Really looked like Conley came in for Edwards with about 27 seconds or so because he picked up his 3rd foul, but Edwards shook his head "no" and Alexander-Walker came out instead.

Gotta kicik out of watching the two of them play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" for it.:giggle:

Lebron not getting a technical and Jaden getting one is ridiculous.

Jaden.....always doing stupid schit

10 points per game, 2 rebounds per game, 1 assist per game

Plays good defense, but is always fouling and getting bullied

28 million per season for this.

I'm not sold.

Turns out the Wolves (24-7) can beat teams with a full complement of players. They did it again tonight against the Lakers (17-16).

Edwards scores 31, Timberwolves hold on to beat the Lakers 108-106 on LeBron's 39th birthday

MINNEAPOLIS -- — Anthony Edwards scored 31 points, Naz Reid added 21 off the bench and the Minnesota Timberwolves held on to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-106 Saturday night on LeBron James' 39th birthday.

Rudy Gobert had 13 points and 13 rebounds as Minnesota overcame 19 turnovers to win for the fourth time in five games. Two of those wins have come against Los Angeles and the Timberwolves are now 14-1 at home this season.

Edwards scored 11 points in the fourth, hitting a pair of 3-pointers after the Lakers had closed within one each time. Mike Conley's 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining gave Minnesota a 107-100 lead. Los Angeles had a closing push led by James, whose long jumper with 2.3 seconds left was ruled a 2-pointer and confirmed by replay, leaving the Wolves up 107-106.

Edwards hit one of two free throws and James' attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Anthony Davis had 33 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists for Los Angeles, which has lost seven of 10 since winning the In-Season Tournament. James, who was questionable for the game with a non-COVID-19 illness, added 26 points.

The Lakers scored 19 points off Minnesota turnovers, but shot just 42% from the field and were 7 of 24 from 3..

Agreed. KAT isn't himself and not just because the Refs refuse to allow him to use a "chicken wing" to get around a defender on his was to the basket. He was allowed to do it for years and now in the last calendar year, it's become an offensive foul. Now throw in the fact that Finch wouldn't sit him down for an extended period to allow him to get healthy and we see what we get.

That said the Wolves now have gone 13-2 in November followed by a December of 10-3 ball.

They now have the best record in the Western Conference and are a game behind the Celtics for the best record in the NBA.

Jace Fredrick is not wrong. McDaniels has been way outta line.

The Timberwolves had the Los Angeles Lakers beat Saturday night at Target Center.

A Mike Conley 3-pointer to put Minnesota up by seven points with 35 seconds to play should have been the official slamming of the door, directly in the Lakers’ faces.

But then Jaden McDaniels stopped, turned around and not-so-politely opened it back up for Minnesota’s counterparts. McDaniels was tasked with the unenviable job of defending LeBron James on the ensuing possession. But, in that spot, you know that even if James scores two points, that doesn’t really hurt you.

So when James drove at McDaniels, all the Wolves’ premier perimeter defender had to do was contest straight up and wait to find out if James made the shot. If he did, so be it. Minnesota was still well on its way to victory.

But, instead, McDaniels lowered his hand at the peak of James’ shot, which led the official to blow the whistle as James hit the runner. And-1. Minnesota’s lead could potentially be trimmed to four. Still, not a big deal. But that call fouled McDaniels out and, in an apparent frustration, McDaniels did something to warrant a technical foul as a parting gift.

It was an unconscionable mistake given the score and situation. The Lakers made both free throws — the technical and the and-1 — and suddenly were within three points. They didn’t even have to foul the Timberwolves on the ensuing possession. Had it not been for James’ large shoe size that turned a jumper moments later from a three into a two, that game would have gone to overtime.

And McDaniels truly would have been the only person to blame..

I love Ant. He's the best and most charismatic player we've seen since KG. By a mile. He's also the leader of this team.

The wolves need to suspend him for a game.

Refusing to come out of a game is a direct challenge to the coach's authority. Yes, it's a players' league. However, PT is the one thing coaches can completely control. Losing that control means a coach has lost the locker room. Ant feeling like he can do whatever he wants can make the temptation to chase the extra $40M all NBA designation a priority over team goals.

The Wolves (24-8) played well for the 1st and 4th Quarters. That was not enough to beat the Knicks (18-15)who won 112-106. Didn't see or listen to the whole game but did see enough to come to one conclusion. If you think the Wolves complain to much about calls, watch a Knicks game. They are just as bad, if mot worse.

Add in how godawful both benches were and it made today's game damn near unwatchable.

Outrebounded by 16.......which is ridiculous.

Sidenote: McDaniels 2 of 8 with 1 rebound in 33 minutes. 28 million per year. That's hideous.

You can turn the gophers losing the last 4 games in the Big 10 into a massive love fest.

I just don't have your skill.

Oh, and 2 for 8 and 1 rebound is impossible.
