All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

The weird thing is that the offensive explosion tonight saw the top 4 hitters go a combined 1-15 with 2 BBs and 5 Ks (not including the pinch-hit at-bats against a non-pitcher). Granted, the 1 hit was Correa's 2 run shot. Hopefully we see them rebound in the doubleheader tomorrow.

Well, the Twins were leading the 1st game of the DH on Tuesday - and then Pagan blew up.

Bottom of 8th: Walk, Walk, wild pitch, 2-run single. Guardians lead 3-2. still nobody out and Thielbar in to pitch.

How is Pagan still on this team?

Last 4 games:

6/28: 0.0 innings - 2 runs 1 hit 2 walks heading to a loss
6/26: 1.1 innings - NO RUNS (shocking) in a 6-3 win
6/22: 1.0 innings - 3 runs on 3 hits in a 11-10 LOSS
6/21: 1.0 innings - 2 runs on 2 hits in a 6-5 LOSS

updated 18.50 ERA in the last 4 outings.
Ernie Clement - Guardians 3rd baseman has a lower ERA after facing the Twins last night with an ERA of 18.

We are complete frauds, but in the race.

The Twins rally late by scoring a run in the 7th and 8th to take a 2-1 lead. Pagan comes in and promptly walks the first two batters, throws a wild pitch and then gives up a 2 run single as the Twins trail 3-2. Will need to rally again in the 9th.

As far as Pagan goes, this is his 3rd straight outing against Cleveland where he has given up multiple runs (2 ER on 6/21 and 3 ER on 6/22). He has now given up 9 ER in the month of June in 8.1 IP. He entered June with a 2.12 era and now sits at 4.62. The Twins need to move Jax to the setup role and Pagan should be relegated to working before the 8th inning.

Yep, you do everything to win game 1 of the doubleheader. You then do this stupid shit in game 2 if need be after winning game 1.

Oh well.

Also cannot overlook the fact that after Correa's homerun, Kepler was gifted 2nd base on an error within nobody out. Garlick followed with an unproductive at-bat before Buxton and Sanchez went down on strikes. Great teams take advantage of opportunities and obviously that "insurance run" that was stranded on 2nd looms large.

Speaking of Garlick. He can't hit right handers. So where is he placed in the lineup today......number 4. Why of course!

I know they'll have to overpay right now but something has to be done about this bullpen. Duran and Jax are the only guys that are dependable.

Particularly with the doubleheader today, I'm not sure why Jax didn't get the eighth inning?

100% true and those two can't pitch every game unfortunately. Our three recent losses to cleveland land squarely on the shoulders of the bullpen. Maddening

If nothing else Pagan is forcing the front office to realize he ain’t the setup guy - he can still be effective in the 6/7 innings IMO, so let’s go get another arm for high leverage innings

Twins fall 3-2 and the division lead is down to 2. Nightcap is critical but given Winder's history, it's looking likely we will be into the pen early. Offense will need to produce.

To be fair, Garlick hit the ball hard, unfortunately right at the CF.

Cleveland Has turned down a proposed Pagan for Ernie Clement straight up swap

The 3 bad games of the 4 were all against Cleveland. 7 ER in 2 IP against Cleveland.

Rocco still strutting around dismissively telling the media, "We save our best pitchers for when we have a lead."?

Just remember the twins sent an additional $6million to San Diego in order to get Pagan rather then just keep a lefty closer like Rogers.

The trade was more about Paddock than it was about Pagan. They also received another prospect that was thrown in due to the $6 million sent along.

Why you don’t burn Duran to try and win a game you are leading and worry about the next 3 games later is just stupid. This whole thing of worrying about the next game needs to stop from Rocco. You need to manage and actively try to win the game right there in front of you.

So what do they have for it. A guy undergoing TJ a guy who can’t pitch out of the bullpen, and a prospect. That’s a hell of a trader there.

Also, we are gifted a baserunner in the 9th...with our #8 guy hitting why don't we bunt with no out? Advance the runner to second and make them decide to pitch to Celestino or walk him to setup the double play ball but have to pitch to Arraez. Either way Arraez is up with a guy on second.

The Guards tried to help the Twins out by giving them 2 baserunners in the 9th via dropped 3rd strike and a booted ground ball.

Shame to waste a great effort by Smeltzer.

Yes we remember as you post it semi-regularly.
Time to let that 🐴 rest?
Not when that is the number one factor keeping the twins from winning games against Cleveland. They have 1 reliable bullpen arm and a starting staff that rarely makes it out of the 5th inning. In a 162 game season that is a bad combination.

Yup. Several what if/missed opportunities late in this game. You can go back to the 3-2 pitch to Kwan that was just outside. An inch or two closer and that would have been a strike em out/throw em out as Sanchez threw out Straw stealing 2nd. Twins were again gifted multiple baserunners in the 9th when Gordon reached on a strikeout wild pitch only to have Urshela immediately gidp and then Celestino reaching on the error. Let's hope they can shake this off and take the nightcap.

Tough to blame the Twins for a player getting injured. Young, controllable starting pitching is what this team has been unable to develop. Two/three plus years of a healthy Paddock was worth one year of Rogers. The Twins likely decided they weren't going to pay Rogers premium closer money next winter. Pagan has been decent until recently but should not be their set-up guy or closer. I don't know much about the prospect.

We have ripped the Twins in the past for sending assets away to get money back in these types of deals. This doesn't fall under that category. I didn't mind the trade at the time.
