All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Your tendons and ligaments don't care whether you're a veteran or future hall of famer. Zero reason for them to put Kershaw back out in those conditions.

And as far as "good news and relevancy", a perfect game would be a story for maybe 48 hours, and then everyone would forget about it. Heck the only people who would notice are those who already follow the sport. Let's stop with these sky is falling takes with baseball please.
You don't think a guy like Kershaw knows how to throw smarter than a young guy like Johan Duran? He had thrown 80 pitches (IIRC)- his arm wasn't going to fall off. Anytime something in baseball, with it's long history, has happened only 23 times, it's a big deal.

Evidently he does not know how to throw any smarter because when his Manager/Dave Roberts approached him before the 6th inning, Kershaw's response was that he would like to top out at 80-85 pitches for the day.

In today's MLB, complete game shutouts feel about as rare as perfect games.
As indicated on yesterday's Dan Patrick Show, there were 23 Complete Games total in MLB last year. I think that includes 7 inning jobs due to Doubleheader rules. Nobody had more than 3.

There have been NONE thrown yet in 2022, and with shortened Spring Training I doubt we will see one until at least May.

Anyway, back to the Twins. It was a regular occurrence for the Cubbies back in the day, but it's gotta be a first for the Twins (at least in some time). Four-game series, no night games, including one that starts at 10 am on Monday.

Sano now with a batting average of .050 with that 2 run shot. I see American League batting champ, or, well maybe not.

Damn it. About the easiest guy to root for, but can't stay on the field. Hope for the best I guess.
Sounds like a torn ACL which I assume would end his season. You can't make it up.

Son of a bitch. Just heartbreaking. How is it some athletes go their whole careers with little issues and he is just snake bit? Damn it.

based on the video I saw, it looked like Buxton jammed or hooked his right foot/ankle on the slide.

But, he then went into a crouch, jumped up and down, and then walked off the field with very little limp.

I can't believe anyone with an ACL would be able to move like that.

If it was one recurring injury, you could at least understand it. But it's a different, unrelated injury almost every time.

No kidding. I just can't explain it. It's too bad because he has so much potential. Just electric when healthy.

With Buxton is anyone going to be surprised if this is an ACL?

Twins had a tough decision to make but giving a huge contact to a guy who hasn’t been able to stay on the field was a big risk.

How many times in MN sports in general has an initial injury been far less than feared? I can think of one time with Buxton in maybe 2017 where they thought he ripped a tendon in his hand or something and it turned out to be minor (unlike last year). It's usually every bit as bad as feared or worse.

His reaction indicated he knew it was bad. It’ll be no surprise if he’s done for the season.

Minnesota sports fans are conditioned and rightfully so to expect the worst.

Non-Buxton comment/question -

When the rosters go down to 26, how do the Angels count Ohanti? If he counts only as a pitcher or non-pitcher, he essentially gives them an extra player/option S you only get 13 of each. He should really count as both, right?, to make this fair and square?

I can die a happy man - Kepler hit a ground ball up the middle for a hit vs grounding feebly between first and second for an out

That looked like an actual closer.

I'm not sure if this makes me feel better or worse.

You serious, Clark?

Yes, point if parliamentary procedure. I’m not afraid to admit when I’m a sun dum on topics, unlike others on here, 😉
You get 26 players. Period. There's no limit on # of pitchers/hitters that I'm aware of.

I believe they even changed the rule this year so they can forgo the DH when he pitches and he can continue to hit even after someone else comes in to pitch.
