All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I'm not getting batting Buxton lead off. What is the reasoning?

Don't you want runners on base when he is up? You've got 8 and 9 hitting in front of him.

This makes no sense. What am I missing?
Get him as many ABs as possible. He makes everyone's job easier when he is on base. He will not hit a dong every time he's up there. Just watch the infielders when he gets on base, they get nervous as hell.

on the bright side, the Twins have played 3 games, and they have used 12 pitchers - so an average of 4 per game. coming off the short spring, it could have been worse.

still to throw this year:
SP: Bundy, Archer and Paddack.
RP: Winder

on Winder - this guy is supposed to have some of the best stuff in the organization. He needs to be working. If you're not going to use him for the Twins, then he should be starting or at least pitching in relief at AAA.

I believe when they get to May 1, rosters go back to 26 with a limit of 13 pitchers, so there will be some decisions to make.

Apparently the White Sox are closing in on getting Frankie Montas. Falvey will say "they never called us back!"

It would be interesting to see how Chicago gets him (if they do) because they don't have much for prospects and many of their top ones are nowhere near MLB ready.

Yeah I think if I remember right he was quite a football player in HS too. A guy like him could probably dominate football at that level on his speed alone.

And yeah, he's one of the most fluid pure athletes I've ever seen, everything just looks so effortless.
Like my wiffle & nerf ball playing days when there was not you couldn’t do

Apparently they have a "RH Jim Thome" named Vaughn that their fans are upset about trading.

I will say this, I would not trade Royce Lewis for Montas. He's raking in AAA and I like Montas but he's not Clayton Kershaw or anything. I think the Twins have enough prospects they could get it done without him though.

To your point, we have 4 of the overall Top 100 MLB and the tighty whites have a 🍩; this includes Ryan and Martin - amazing haul from the Cruz trade. Ryan qualifies as he didn’t chuck enough innings to lose his rookie tag -

Andrew Vaughn. He was a top 15 prospect before he got called up. Was a really good college player.

I wouldn't trade Lewis either for Montas. I'm not too concerned if they don't get Montas at this point to be honest. If we're in the playoff hunt midseason, then we still have a lot of pieces to get a pitcher then or even just grab another reliever or two.

Then wouldn't you bat Trout leadoff. Or Puckett back in the day? The best hitters pretty much hit number 3 or possibly 4.

Get through the 6th with Thelbar and let’s get Winder in here for multiple innings.

Nice win. However, Sano is now 0-13 with 6 K's. Same story, different year. How long until you just say enough? This is his last year as a Twin either way and Kiriloff is better of at 1B.

Twins are third in MLB with a 2.5 ERA; granted Seattle's offense is akin to a woman having a "nice personality," but there seems to be a much more confidence this year and Johan looks like he wants to be the closer!

Even if he gets injured I'd rather take the chance that we are getting an MVP caliber player for about half the going rate, then to give away the best player on the team.

Or just give him an incentive laden contract, which is exactly what happened. Everyone was happy with that. Automatically throwing 25+ million away every season for 70 games would have been dumb. Hopefully this is finally the season he stays healthy.

Sano is always a slow starter in the cold, it is what it is. He's not the only one with this problem in the majors.

He is who he is at this point. He'll really struggle at times but can get hot too. Will end the season with high strikeouts and above average power numbers.

Over the last 4 years, he's hitting .223, strikes out 37% of the time and his OPS is 113. He's basically a marginally above average hitter and is a minus on defense. The couple of 2 week hot stretches just aren't worth it anymore, IMO. At the very least, I'd play him less. Put Arreaz in LF some and Kiriloff at 1B.

They should have some power in other spots. Arreaz should be a regular and at top of the lineup.

The top 4 should be Arreaz, BB, polanco, and correa every game

You asked why. I answered.

If you're going to reject any answer as plausible, there really is no need to ask the question.

So is sano still swinging for the fences every time?

Ohtani hits 1st, Trout 2nd for the Angels. Tatis, Soto, Betts, and Acuna almost always bat in the 1 or 2 spot. The best hitters hit 1 or 2 more often now days than 3 or 4.

I'm in agreement. On the days Buxton plays, get him to the plate as often as possible.

So with this talk about batting order, let's look back at the 1991 Game 7 of WS starting lineup. If you could set this lineup, how would you do it now?

I'd go:
1. Mack
2. Hrbek
3. Puckett
4. Davis
5. Harper
6. Knoblauch
7. Pagliarulo
8. Gagne
9. Gladden

Stats of these 9: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.a...1&ind=0&team=8&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0

I like it. Mack started leading off the next year, and that was where he belonged.
