All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

I don’t mind the trade. A little worried about the bullpen but they could easily pick up an arm or two at the deadline. Hopefully a few of the young guys step up.

It seems that Correa and, probably, Gray are the only two offseason moves the Twins have made that don't come across as let's throw it against the wall and see if it sticks. Other than Gray and Correa, the other signees are coming off of down periods in their careers and management is betting that the Twins elixir can make everything right again. We'll see...

Does he have to be on the 40 man roster or they could have lost him? I'm not up to speed on these type of rules
I believe so. Garlick is not on the 40 but appears to have won the 4th OF spot so someone had to be taken off. Just speculation that Rooker may have been that guy.

Yeah other than a frontline starter and one of the best players in the entire league....

I don't know if this is THE plan, but it certainly shapes up as A plan: if they find themselves in contention this summer, they could get aggressive and add a star starter as well. Heck, what sprung the Astros a few years ago was trading for Verlander. Guys of that caliber are available for the right price.

Maybe it was the finger injury, but I have thought that Rogers did not look quite the same the last two years. His fastball is fairly straight, and his slider didn't seem to have the same bite on it. He was throwing more sliders that seemed to have a horizontal break as opposed to a vertical break.

He's still a solid relief pitcher, but he's getting a little older and he's had some injuries.

I can live with this move.

the back end of the bullpen - as of today - will be a mix of
Duffey
Smith
Pagan
Alcala &
Duran

Cotton could be a 6th or 7th inning guy.
Coulombe and Thielbar are the LOOGY's.

and Winder could get some more high-leverage innings if he is throwing well.

Brandon Kintzler is available. Terrible last year. Very good in 2020 as the Marlins closer.

I hope Alcala or Duran can grab the job. Duffy seems too prone to being hard on himself. One blown save could turn into 4 with him.

Not your imagination...and I'm sure it was borne out by physical analyses the team does. By all accounts, he did look sharper this spring, which makes this a good time to trade him. Sell when his stock is high.

A favor to ask from those in the know—where is a good resource that breaks down the “modern” stats. I am interested in knowing more advanced stats, but not really sure where to start and also looking for a place that puts the numbers in context—as with many of you, I grew up with the standards of .300, 30, and 100 along with 20 wins and ERA below as the simple benchmarks.

I like Baseball Reference.

Baseball Reference and Fangraphs.

Was talking to my buddy about this earlier today. Regardless of your feelings of the moves this off-season, how nice is it to see them at least trying to be aggressive and make moves? It’s been so rare. And they haven’t had to give up a whole lot for prospects so they can still make another big move or two later in the season.

there is a site called "Baseball Prospectus" that is very stat-heavy and really into the analytics. I used to read their stuff quite a bit, but then they went to a paywall system where all the 'good' stuff was behind the paywall and I was too cheap to shell out.

I believe a few people who have written for Baseball Prospectus have actually been hired to work for MLB franchises.

anyway, if you're willing to pay for content, that might be a place to check out.
