I agree. That's a solid defense. We were horribly undermanned at corner last year. Otherwise, we were dealing with injuries and a Pierce opt-out. Two good signings to patch up the d-backfield.

Should allow them to focus on drafting one of the two best offensive lineman in the draft.

They can still extend Harrison Smith to create room and possibly cut Hughes, and/or extend Cousins.

I've also heard — can't remember where, exactly, and I have no idea as to accuracy — that the team has basically told Danielle Hunter, "Look, take it easy; we love you and we're going to address your contract; just let us get these other ducks lined up first".

That would be logical. Hunter is coming off neck surgery. Rob Brzezinski is a cap master extraordinaire. They could conceivably extend Hunter in a way that makes him happy while also freeing up even more room for this coming season.

If some kind of restructure/extension isn't done, then the only way the Vikings won't have a $45M cap hit in 22 is if they somehow trade him. Who is going to take that, even if he's the MVP of the league next year?

I hope Alexander doesn't play much. I only remember him doing meh to not good things.

At the very least, you gotta believe with the recent offseason moves at the very least they should NOT be taking a DB in the first round, at least if they stay where they are. That would be a refreshing change in itself.

Lynch is a big boy, 3tech from Baylor, that I thought should've gotten more snaps last year.

Me too. But it is true that Hunter put his Vikings photos back up on IG. In 2021 this is deep in depth analysis. Diggs telegraphed his trade the same way.
 


I wish they would have the play-offs and # of regular season games alone. Here comes some 7-10 or 8-9 play-off teams.

About two million of Hughes $3.1 million this year is dead cap. Not positive on that number so correct me if I am wrong. But if that is in fact the case....you aren't cutting Hughes to save $1.1 million. No way in hell.
 

This morning on the radio, P.A. made it sound as if Hughes' medical situation is not good. He even used the phrase, "He may never play football again".
P.A. also heaped praise on Hughes for being a high-quality person, and said if Hughes' injuries prevent him from playing again, it would be "tragic".

This sounds like setting up that the Vikings will try to somehow declare the rest of Hughes' contract nullified for the sake of the salary cap, while perhaps committing to "pay him off" the rest he is owed outside of the cap, if he agrees to retire?

If he's injured they have to pay him. Not sure how it counts against the cap though. They will likely reach an injury settlement. Also means they don't have to admit what a bust of a 1st round pick it was.
 





Next they're going to re-sign DJ Dozier.

(BTW - I had completely forgotten that DJ Dozier played baseball after leaving the NFL. Had a cup of coffee with the Mets - but he at least played in the major leagues.)

Dozier isn't a terrible signing for a backup/swing interior OL. He's a known commodity, knows the offense, likely signed for the veteran minimum, easily cut in the fall if they can add someone better. There will be plenty more cap casualties across the league between now and the draft, and also during fall camp. There will be more opportunities to add some depth at interior OL.

He's not starting Week One. Can almost guarantee that.

Precisely! Well said. Especially good points about Dozier himself.

Yes, Viking fans want the OL bolstered, and yes, it's true that the team has not done much to address the OL — as of YET.

Key word: YET. Stay calm, and stay tuned.
