All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

Minnesota, Creighton and Oklahoma, according to what 247 shows. Other than Louisville, last fall, he has only taken an official visit to Minnesota.

Can't remember, is this the guy that's only video is like a workout with his coach? Or is that someone else? It's hard to get too excited about guys that don't even have highlight videos, but I guess he wouldn't have to do anything for us next year. Let him put on weight and develop behind Mo and EE.

You don't consider him a 4 star on ESPN, even though ESPN clearly has him ranked as a 4 star player? In what world does this make sense? He's not a 4 star on Rivals, Scout, or 247, but he is a 4 star on ESPN. Any way you slice it, Piper is one of the best available players left this Spring and would be a great addition to the Gophers.

he isn't a top 100 player on that site which is why i don't consider him a 4 star even though he has the grade of a 4 star. Its all relative.

Piper, Konate, and Cohen all are looking like good possibilities to become Gophers. I'd be satisfied if we got one of them, and thrilled with 2!!! I haven't been this excited about recruiting since Travis-gate!!!

Matt Gravett all over Gopher recruiting right now-

Great chance rn. More to the story, which we'll have on G247 later RT @TheBallaholics: @GravettMatt What's our chances with Sandy Cohen?

UMN or UW. Gopher lock if Romar is fired. http://t.co/vPEpXA3IZw RT @bhagen4904: @GravettMatt any feel to where ya think he's leaning?

Any idea when "later" is? I wonder if P continued to recruit Cohen or anything romantic like that. Think Crean style texts

Djuan Piper is an improving, upward trending player who currently is #108 overall in the country by ESPN (extrapolating), and #143 overall by 247. We need this guy!

He still hasn't taken an official to UW, right? Obviously that doesn't mean anything, but as we all know based on the Big 3, it can be a sign.

Are they playing for the national championship or something? And how do kids get out of school to go play basketball in high school?!?

It really isn't that odd. I got out of school all the time for golf in high school. Missed entire days for 18 hole tournaments and even missed the last hour of the day to "warmup" for home matches.

8 of the top schools in the nation are picked to play in msg. Rainier Beach plays Findlay Prep on April 3rd.

I get that, but not a couple weeks as I'm assuming is the case if he gets back from NY in April.

It's the national tournament, I don't find it that surprising. It is a school activity and they are one of a great few that got invited. The state athletic association (WIAA) cleared them to go, so why not.

ETA: My high school marketing class took a week long trip to New York for no real reason. I couldn't go because it was right in the middle of the basketball season. There are all sorts of school trips you can go on and a lot of times they are kind of pointless.

If someone is disappointed with this year's class they unrealistically expected us to get one (or more) of the Big 3, which was never going to happen. Also, our class isn't complete yet so it's silly to already decide whether it's a good class or bad class. The 3 guys we do have signed are all going to fill a need and should contribute immediately.

If you believe the word on the street - which I do - Travis was as close to coming here as you can come without coming here. That doesn't amount to an unrealistic expectation, especially considering the recruiting job Richard did to get it as close as he got it. Better days are ahead. POLLYANNA!!!

The way I see it is that his parents always wanted him to go to Stanford. And since he was always going to go where his parents wanted him to go, we never really had a shot, even though he seemed to enjoy his visits. That's just my 2 cents though.

Mad, it was surprising to me, I've never witnessed kids missing a week for a sports or any other function. I get that you've seen it, and you're not surprised like I am.

Sometimes you're like a dog who will not let go of a bone.

Sorry, was just adding some info about the WIAA and explaining why I'm not that surprised. I'm done talking about it.

You said that he wasn't a 4 star, so I guess you got half of that statement correct.

Yeah, you did say that.

I never said "nobody considers him a 4 star" I just said nobody considers him a top 100 player and also I never denied the fact that i said he isn't a 4 star however it is just silly to call him a 4 star when only one of the four sites actually gives him 4 stars and all four sites don't give him a top 100 rank.
