This is going to be an epic recruiting class. Solid 4* across the board or better. Pitino has an awesome staff. There are Final Fours in our future. BTW, I prefer solid 4* to one and done 5*. Either Newton or Perkins ahead of Jones. Whitehead ahead of Vaughn. A little Goodluck for added effect. I do want Reid.

BTW, I know how it feels to want.

I like your enthusiasm, but, from one Minnesota fan to the other, you might want to temper that excitement and prepare for a fallout. History, ya know?

Forget the "history" part, everybody can chase 4 and 5 star recruits, gettng them to commit is much harder. I would be happy with four three stars if they really fit the system and we are good at developing players.
 




Neumann-Goretti's Newton becoming a hot basketball recruit

As a result, his college recruiting has reached another level. "More schools coming on, bigger schools coming along, just more guys knowing me," said Newton, who will travel to Las Vegas on Friday for the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Villanova, one of Newton's longtime suitors, remains in the running along with Georgetown, Miami, Syracuse, Temple, and St. Joseph's, among others.

Newton expects to get an offer from UCLA; he received a phone call last week from Bruins coach Steve Alford. Newton's recruitment continues to heat up as he enters his senior year, but the Southwest Philadelphia native is leaving few hints.

Unlike most of his peers, Newton rarely posts messages about his scholarship offers, college visits, or phone calls. He said he has a few offers that only he knows about. "It's just being humble," he said. "The kids that want to be known, want to be cocky, they get an offer and tweet it out right away."

Damn. I live 3 miles from Neumann-Goretti. I'll have to check out Newton next year!
 






Has anyone heard anything new about Josh Perkins? He said he would make his decision after visiting UK and UCONN in august. I just want to know if we still have a shot or not.

Known they will be a package deal. But from the sounds of it we are in the top 3

I think the Cuse would be wise to offer Newton. May be too late now. I like our chances against USC and Miami. Better than UCLA and Florida being the competition.

I havent even heard of the duo talk about Miami, so that isn't a big threat IMO. USC is mentioned a bit by them, but it seems like they are just a back thought to those two. I still think are biggest competition would come from Syracuse, and that's why I'm hoping Kaleb Joseph commits to Syracuse (over our offer, yes).
 

When I checked out the Cuse board, it sounded like Whitehead has been lukewarm on them for a long time, for whatever reason. Kind of like Tyus with the Gophers, where they're always in the discussion, but he never says anything to get them really optimistic. That, and Joseph is their top choice for PG, and from all accounts it's only a matter of time before Joseph accepts that offer.

I'm not counting Syracuse out of it by any means, but when I checked out their fan board, I was encouraged by what I saw there.

Trust in our Athletic Director. He said he hired a recruiter, and he was right.

Pitino called the Big 3 minutes/hours after receiving the job. So he has an offer from Pitino, you must be new around here.

"Offers" in this context aren't formal/contractual. But, when a coach leaves, a prospective player will always want to find out what the new coach/staff is thinking and confirm an "invite/offer" is still in play.

In this case, Pitino would have quickly let it be known that he'd love for Rashad to come to Minnesota.
 


CBS: Paul White suffers broken arm

Paul Whitehad been playing some of his best basketball of the past year at the Peach Jam, putting together multiple consistent efforts in impressive fashion.

However, the 6-9 forward from Whitney Young (Ill.) suffered a gruesome broken arm in the opening minutes of Meanstreets' game against Howard Pulley. According to coaches at the game, the injury occurred when White tried to break a fall by putting his hand on the court.

A tweet from the Mac Irvin Fire Twitter account -- a fellow Chicago program -- said White underwent surgery on Saturday and will miss up to eight weeks.
