I don't see how we would have room for all of them.

I don't see how we would have room for all of them.

I cross-checked all of them with people on Twitter such as Ryan James and Alex Kline and I believe all of the above have outstanding offers from the Gophers. And I'm no recruiting expert, but it seems counter intuitive to me to offer all these 3* players from out of state when it seems we have a decent chance at guys like Travis, Whitehead, Newton, Vaughn, and Perkins. And we only have three or four scholarships to offer, right?

We have 4 scholarships in hand, and a somewhat better chance than usual of another one or two becoming available come spring. I don't understand Coach P.'s approach either, but some things you simply have to take on faith. I will say I believe Coach P. has a very good feel at this time, whether the additional one or two scholarships will come into play. He knows what he's doing.

Any idea what could be happening?

Per @RyanJamesMN
Rashad Vaughn confirmed what he's said for a long time and that's about his decision likely happening next spring, after his year at Findlay

per Doogie:

Gophers coach Richard Pitino flew commercial on the first leg of the weekend's recruiting trip. I thought this would be the weekend that he took advantage of his $50,000 private jet allowance. Maybe he did, but not from the get-go. In the last week, Pitino watched prospects in AAU events in Philadelphia, South Carolina, and Indianapolis.

Why? Why would he use his private jet funds on pre-planned trips that he can easily schedule on commercial flights? The private jet is more for quick trips that he needs to fit into his schedule - easy in/easy out. More like the time when Izzo flew in right after a NCAA game, he couldn't have made the trip on a commercial flight.

Worth listening to. Ryan James said an SEC coach told him he feels that Sandy Cohen is pretty much a lock to Minnesota. Seemed a little odd to me because he has been vocal about how much he likes Marquette. James says he mentioned this to the coach and the coach said, "If he loves Marquette so much, why hasn't he committed yet?" Not sure that's a great argument for why he wouldn't go there though.

Also kinda wondering, if we were in good shape with Cohen, would we have offered Macura? It seems like as long as we have a good shot a Newton/Whitehead or Perkins/Vaughn package, and then hopefully adding a forward like Reid Travis or Paul White or something, I have a hard time seeing a situation where we would take both Cohen and Macura, and that possibly Macura was offered because they don't feel good about Cohen? Pure speculation on my part, might be completely off-base. Might very well just be the staff offering multiple players at one position instead of putting all their eggs in one basket.

I listened to it too and it was very interesting. I'm torn between if I want Perkins/Vaughn or Whitehead/Newton package. On one hand the Perkins/Vaughn could lead us deep into the tourney but on the other hand they will probably only stay one year and it sounds like Whitehead/Newton would stay 4. I guess this is a good dilemma to have but I just wish we could have both! :D

Cohen is a 6'6 PG that could also play wing. JP is a wing. They could easily play together. Might take us out of the running for one of the PG/Wing package deals though, especially if we get Reid as well. Or maybe someone like Oto transfers to open up another scholarship. Good problem to have I suppose if all those guys are seriously interested in committing to Minnesota.

I don't see whitehead staying more than two or three years... and if Newton plays the way he did in Peach Jam I don't see him staying more than three years.

All I ever hear when it comes to Cohen is Marquette. I heard that Buzz has made him a huge focus for 2014 so I think that's where he ends up!

If you look back at my posts over the last 2.5 months I've consistently said Cohen is a good fit at Minnesota and I see him there more than Marquette. Granted, I've been in the minority on that view and ultimately anything could happen, but my view on it hasn't changed - still see Cohen at Minnesota as a good fit.

As the next several weeks progress there are variables and the domino effect in play so anything goes.. but, as I said a couple of months ago my best guess would still be Cohen at the U.

He could help a little at point I suppose, but in college see him as a wing (but one that can handle the ball and pass it, so to a degree it's semantics).

On the Talk Gopher Buckets podcast, Ryan James mentioned that he spoke with an SEC Coach who said that he thinks Cohen will end up at MN. When asked why, the coaches response was basically "because Cohen keeps saying Marquette is his favorite... if they really wanted him, why haven't they gotten him to commit yet?" or something along those lines.

Just thought that was interesting speculation from a college coach... I am hopeful we can land him because it seems, like GW says above, that he projects as a versatile wing. Of course, I'm only judging from what I've seen on youtube and read/heard from others, but guys with that size who can handle and pass are definitely valuable.

I dont really like Cohen's game from the tapes I've seen... He looks slower than I would suspect a Pitino system would want out of a PG.

I will say, however, I've only watched the mixtape that had him playing in the Bay Conference, which isn't going to be the toughest competition. I've only read and heard he is tearing it up in EYBL so that has to mean he is skilled. Plan on making it to a couple of his games this season as I'm not too far away from him.

Larrier Adds High-Major Offers (UPDATED)

The 6-foot-8 Team Scan small forward has picked up offers from Arizona, UConn, VCU, SMU and LSU in recent days, Team Scan coach Terrance “Munch” Williams told SNY.tv at the Peach jam.

UConn head coach Kevin Ollie, VCU head coach Shaka Smart, Arizona’s Sean Miller and Book Richardson, SMU’s Larry Brown and LSU’s Johnny Jones all watched Larrier at Peach Jam.

“There have been so many different schools coming, and every day it’s someone else,” Williams said.

“So at the end of the day, we’re going to just look at everything at the end of July and see what’s on the table. Look at coaching staffs, players/personnel, academics, location, all of the above and try and make sure he makes the right decision before school season starts.”

So are you saying in your opinion Cohen's game would fit better with Minnesota, or have you heard rumblings that Minnesota is actually more in contention than Cohen has publicly stated? Just wondering if you have any inside info.

Since you are a Marquette fan and so am I, I'm curious what you have been hearing about Looney and Stone. Where do you see them ending up?

Cohen - Several angles to it, but you never know. Things can change quickly.

Looney - Has always been a guy that was unlikely for MU, so not a surprise they're not "in it".. but where to? Don't know. Would say Duke if forced to pick.

Diamond - MU is still in play. Many possibilities.

I have no problem with some recruiting tidbits involving Marquette or any schools in states bordering us. It interesting the top player in Wisconsin and one of the top nationally is going outstate.
