All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

We cooled on all of these guys and have two stud transfers lined up for next year who will be able to play right away.

yeah, and I am starting to feel Piper may be leaning washington now from reading his twitter account, seems like he really likes the idea of representing his state and hometown, and he has teammates encouraging him to go to washington. And the more time he wait, the less that excitement he got from his visit will stick with him. Wish our recruits here had the same attitude about representing their home state.

Just need a big recruit or two to start the trend (like Jeff Jones signing with the Gophers will hopefully do in football). I actually bizarrely followed Washington basketball very closely for a couple years after following Isaiah Thomas (the PG who plays for the Sacramento Kings now) on Twitter and they take a lot of pride in playing for UW or U Dub out there. Started with Brandon Roy and Nate Robinson then continued on with guys like Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Abdul Gaddy and Tony Wroten. Peyton Siva probably would of went there too if Romar wasn't going so hard after Abdul Gaddy in 2009....but anyway like you pointed out i'm sure Piper would love to represent his home state and carry on tradition by playing at UW but I think we're still in it. I'm sure Josh has been on him and remember they already have two SFs committed to play there so we still got a good chance. It'll be tough though.

Unlike Anas, he looks ready to play in the B1G right NOW.

Eubanks reportedly wants to visit this week.

– The next game isn’t until Sunday’s Senior Day against Penn State. The Gophers could be getting an official visit from four-star Our Savior New American School (N.Y.) guard Kobe Eubanks soon. He told me over the weekend he was trying to schedule something this week. But Eubanks is already planning to visit Missouri on Wednesday.

Eubanks announced Feb. 22 that his list of schools were Wichita State, Pittsburgh, Baylor, Minnesota and Missouri. He made a trip to Pittsburgh on Monday.

Hope he makes it out for the game, otherwise I don't think we have much of chance, even now our chances are pretty slim against pitt. I followed the game yesterday because I knew he was visiting, and though they lost, the atmosphere was pretty impressive, at least from tv. He also seemed to be having a good time while at the game from his twitter account. But they did lose against NC state at home, so we got that going for us, hopefully he gets here for penn state and the barn is rocking for senior day and we get that W

Headed to Baylor today. Previously this was one of his two visits that were not announced. Scheduled to go to Missouri tomorrow?

I'd take him based on that highlight video. Doesn't look too much different than Mahmoud, maybe not quite as good of an athlete.

Yeah, I'm infatuated. Besides his obvious skill, he seems to have a great instinctual feel for the game - offense, at least.

Husky basketball recruits on display at WIAA state tournament

Starring alongside Crisp on Rainier Beach is 6-foot-5 senior wing Djuan Piper. Washington offered Piper in early January – the Huskies along with Gonzaga and Minnesota are in Piper's final three schools. Piper has the prototypical frame for the wing position with long arms that can cause havoc on defense. He's currently averaging 10.4 points per game for the Vikings. Piper plans on making a verbal commitment before the April signing date.

LOL how many big men are they going to bring in? I don't get that prediction at all unless they are going to have some major transfers and/or a decommit.

Does anybody know their scholarship situation? They have already signed six players (assuming Mahmoud), including 3 guys 6'10" or better.

On 247, they are still the frontrunner for Cekovsky and Konate.

I'm not sure Cekovsky is much of an option. Everything I've read suggests he's going pro overseas. Konate is the guy to watch IMO.

If that's the case, I wonder why they're still making predictions at 247? Where have you read this?

We now have 3 scholarships still available for this class. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Let's hope none of the spring signings are forced. I wouldn't mind banking one for '15 all things considered.

I'm wondering of there are some jucos/grad transfers we will be pursuing. It would be nice to be able to balance out the classes a little bit. Six freshmen seems a bit excessive (unless they're REALLY talented).

Morris is coming in as a junior so we have some initial balance already.

I agree that we'll probably be all over the "waiver wire" seeking a college graduate transfer who can come in and play right away. That helps balance the in-coming guys, should provide an immediate boost to the roster and doesn't impact our 2015 recruiting.

Go Gophers!!

Tommy Flanagan has been saying the staff has been looking at potential immediate qualifying transfers for a while now. Guys that will be graduating or will be able to get a waiver because their school will be ineligible for postseason play due to low APR. Not sure what Tommy's connections are, but it seems to add up.

Speaking of Tommy, he mentioned that up to three scholarships would likely open up. Two that would be somewhat obvious and one that would not. I think we have seen the two obvious ones...but when does the other shoe drop?

Three have already opened up, we had an extra to begin with, hopefully there aren't anymore surprises

I was left with the impression that there would be one more. I wasn't including the one that Shell is using this semester that was open previously.

The one that was open/Buckles didn't get/given to Shell

Wally gone

Oto gone

That's three

Found the original quote from Tommy...."Right now, there is a chance of three transfers, two obvious, one not so much. Piper loved his visit!"

I think that I was assuming the two "obvious" transfers would be some combination of Wally/Buggs/Oto. But the "not so much" wouldn't be Shell, because he isn't transferring (assuming he would lose his scholarship next year though?). If Tommy has a legitimate source, there could potentially be additional news. I'll let Tommy speak for himself in the future, but his name was brought up in this thread. Just got me thinking.

At the time of Tommy's post one of the "obvious ones" was certainly Charles Buggs. I would guess that the staff is looking at a minimum of one graduate transfer/JUCO guy with the 3 open scholarships. I'd hope for two immediate impact type guys (transfers, JUCO's, highly regarded freshman) and a project big to sit a year behind Elliott/Mo.

You might be right and that would be good news. At the time, I was thinking it was probably Wally and Buggs as the two most likely candidates. Not sure that Oto would have completely surprised me either but that might have been the third he was referencing.
