Go Gophers!!

Nice to see that we seemed to have gotten somebody that has flown under the radar..excited to seem him do big thnigs at the U!

This is good news on Mason. Good ball handler and shooter. Has very good 3 point range. I thought he looked like an average passer and didn't think he was much of a finisher. Looks like he can give us immediate minutes at the 1 and 2, and I can see the comparison to Dre. Nice match with Jarvis Johnson.

Our version of Peyton Siva and Russ Smith.

So now that Travis has picked Stanford, where do we go from here? We still have 1 spot left. Obviously Vaughn is the #1 target but I don't believe he'll pick the U.

Next year at the 3, we have Morris/Buggs/Wally. Our need is a versatile 3 level scorer, a la Vaughn. We'll know more as the season progresses, but at this point in time he might just want the best scorer or scorers he can find regardless of position.

I still believe we have a decent chance with Vaughn.

I do too. This is a great offense for him and I do think he likes the idea of being "the guy". He is an MJ/Kobe type, he wants talent around him, but also for it to be his team. He is al alpha. He could be that here at Minnesota. He'd have a solid group around him and be able to shine here.

I don't know about others, but I'll never be able to get my hopes up like that with another recruit for a long, long time.

Agreed. I had thought we had no chance at all with Reid until a couple of weeks ago. And I think Rashad is more likely to come here because Reid went elsewhere. He wants to carry a team. However, I'm not going to get too invested in it, because it's months away, and because today was painful. I'm going to lick my wounds for a bit.

Completely agree. I thought Pitino would get both Reid and Rashad so this one hurts a bit. But, I am hopeful the game tonight gives us some positive vibes!

Will Nate and Carlos still come to Minnesota now that we missed on Reid?

Honestly Ryan James time and time again has proven he's the most plugged in basketball recruit guru in the area. He never budged on the Reid-to-Minnesota hype. If he says Vaughn was our best chance all along then I believe it.

Does anyone else feel that it's just really sad that local kids no longer share the pride of representing the home state school? It just seems really odd to me. I graduated in 1987 and I would've gave anything to have a chance to play for the U in front of family and friends. I was devastated when Tom Copa chose Marquette over the Gophers (I'm a CR alum) and didn't sleep well for weeks after that decision. What the hell happened to home state pride the last 20 years?

I'm with you 100% Slim. One thing that concerns me is that the more often a top kid leaves the state, the easier it is for the next kid to do it as well. It sure would be great to get an early commitment from Jarvis or Illikainen as the 2015 class recruitment heats up in the Spring.

Go Gophers!!

I remember that exactly. It made no sense, since Dutcher was putting all these bigs in the pros. My father talked me thru it, and I no longer get upset when a local kid goes elsewhere, but Copa was a tough one.

We have to be realistic about this. It's the way of the world these days. Someone posted the stats of where the elites go to school, and most hit the road, even when there's a top program in the state.

So who is Richard targeting now that Reid's a goner? I think it's time to get over the pity party of us not getting Travis. Let it go, my brothers.

Just a thought, but hold the scholarship for the class of 2015? Admittedly we already have 5 (?) scholarships available for that class, but there are a lot of good players to go for then.

Hold it for Rashad. If Rashad goes elsewhere, then hold it for 2015.

This. I wouldn't say out 2014 class is stellar on paper, but it's certainly very, very solid. We don't need to be desperate. Try to get Rashad. Sell him on being able to soak up all the good will spurned by the other two, and come here and be the star on a rising team. Then, if he succumbs to UNLV's pernicious influence, bank it, and go after the 2015 kids.

If there was a big that could play and would fit I have not problem going after one, no need to be desperate but it would fill a need, if you wait until 2015 you might have to go the Juco route if you can't find one that could play right away.

They could save it for 2015 but what if it's a repeat of 2014, where most of the big names went elsewhere. We would have wasted a year giving the scholorship to another player we didn't exactly want. I would find somebody, probably a big, and try to get him here.

I agree and I have no idea who will be a target. After the Nov. signing day we will see who is waiting for spring, and then as December rolls into January names (spring targets) will begin to emerge. It's likely the guy we get has at this point never been mentioned as a possible recruit. We've got a solid start with the 3 already committed, now we need a B10 ready big to add to the fold.
