All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I think Martin commits to Minnesota tomorrow, or in the next few days. As scher pointed out, Martin recently tweeted "Got my mind made up" while at the Pitt football game. Sounds bad on the surface, but afterwards he has only favorited Gopher fan responses, including things like "Gophers, then NBA" and tweets like that. Some Pitt fans are responding and convinced it's Pitt, but he's not favoriting their responses. I know it seems silly to assume something off of a kid's actions on Twitter, but Martin has been all about Minnesota since his visit. We blew him away. I don't think he's having as good of a time at Pitt. Our drought may finally be over. If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow.

I like it Jaymil. Way to go out on a limb. Hope you're right.

One would think if he made a tweet like that regarding his mind being made up and that it was going to be Pitt, that he would just commit on his official. So if he doesn't commit before he leaves I like our chances.

Delshon Strickland tweeted his top 6 today with Minnesota in it (no offer but growing interest) He added "expect the unexpected"... I think we have a chance with him

If we offer I would expect him to commit, I just don't know how lilkely that is to happen. Going to have to miss out on a few more guys first I would think. No disrespect to Delshon intended. Think he has some good potential, but he just isn't quite there yet.

I think Strickland is a under rated player. He will help someone out.

I'm not sure about Vandy's guard situation, but Iowa has Gessell, who is a very similar player to Riley. They also have a bunch of other guards like Oglesby, Jok, Clemmons and Riley's buddy who just signed. We have one sure fire backcourt starter for 2014-2015 and that's if he doesn't have a big year and decide to go pro. Riley surely has a better shot of getting more minutes early on here as opposed to Iowa.

As soon as I read the quotes about LaChance's buddy that committed to Iowa I pretty much penciled him in for Iowa. Would be shocked if he doesn't end up there.

So if we are lucky enough to get a commit from Josh Martin, does Reid immediately eliminate us from his list of schools?

We may be better off with an athletic juco point guard and get Jarvis in next years class. Lachance may fit better with Iowa.s halfcourt game. It's nice to have shooters but Wisconsin and Marquette didn't recruit him. Kind of like Wally and Bostick and we know how they turned out, so far anyway in the case of Wally.

So if we are lucky enough to get a commit from Josh Martin, does Reid immediately eliminate us from his list of schools?
Why? Don't get the logic. Reid will play major minutes for us regardless of Martin. You could see lineups with three guards and Martin and Reid on the court for that matter. I suppose if Lechance commits to us Tyus drops us from his list because he's scared he won't play.

I'm sure PT is a factor, as it is with most recruits, but I don't think LaChance is going to play much early on at Iowa, Vandy, or MN. I've seen him play a dozen times, and while I'm a fan of his and think that he's a solid recruit, I just don't see him making a large impact as an underclassmen. His shooting will get him on the court at least.

I think any freshman guard has a better chance of playing at Iowa than MN this season. The Gophers have five upperclassmen guards and I would see it very difficult to get minutes. Down the road it is a different story though.

These Crystal Ball "predictions" are so stupid!!!!!!

At the beginning of the day, #CrystalBall for Riley LaChance was 100% #Gophers. I still wonder if this is the next point guard in line behind LaChance. If LaChance goes elsewhere, how far down the wish list do we go before we defer to next year?

Ryan James said he really liked Nate Mason's game this summer. Think he would possibly fit the system a little better than LaChance with his speed and penetration ability.

Also:
Ryan James ‏@RyanJamesMN 10m
Richard Pitino of Minnesota will be watching SG Delshon Strickland tonight at Minnetonka. Auburn too.

LaChance is probably the better player but Mason is probably the better point guard.

Agreed. All depends on what Pitino wants/needs. Would be happy with either recruit. RJ was talking about Mason a lot over the summer AAU season. Raved about his driving abilities

The crystal ball projects of Mason to Minnesota was made by Justin Young the editor or HoopSeen.com which focuses on Georgia high school basketball. He's been fairly accurate with his other projections (most/all Georgia kids), so his prediction might actually mean something.

I believe Mason has been on visits to Virginia and Kansas State. I looked at some of his clips on YouTube this Summer when the Gophers were mentioned with him and he definitely seems like more of a scorer than a pure point guard.
